Eddie HollandIt Moves Me – The Complete Recordings 1958 to 1964 ... CD
Ace (UK), Late 50s/Early 60s. New Copy 2CD ... $18.99 22.99
A beautiful collection of all the great and rare material Eddie Holland cut as solo singer in the late 50s and early 60s – including the incredible early Motown material, plus tracks he cut for Mercury, Kudo, Tamla and United Artists! Of course Eddie Holland is best remembered for uber-legendary work as producer, composer and arranger with the Holland-Dozier-Holland super soul unit – for damn good reason, but it's his early work as singer is way too strong to be considered a mere footnote to his greater legacy. Many of the cuts were written and produced by Berry Gordy, along with numbers written and produced by Brian Holland and Lamont Dozier, some recorded more famously by later acts, so what you truly have here is the foundation for great things to come – it's beautiful stuff that shines brightly in its own light. Eddie's a solid singer and the songs are terrific, formative stuff that's a pivotal bridge from earlier R&B to massive soul. 56 tracks on 2CDs: "Little Miss Ruby", "Will You Love Me", "Just A Few More Days", "It's Not Too Late", "Just Ain't Enough Love", "Brenda", "Baby Shake", "Magic Mirror", "If Cleopatra Took A Chance", "Action Speaks Louder than Words", "Bashful Kind", "Too Late To Cry", "Happy Go Lucky", "Pretty Little Angel Face", "Day Dreamer", "Rain And Thunder", "I Like Everything About You", "Happy Days" and many more. This set goes deeper than any compilation we've seen of Eddie's recordings, too, with a number of previously unissued Mercury recordings. CD

VariousCellarful Of Motown Vol 5 – The Rarest Detroit Grooves ... CD
Motown (UK), 1960s/Early 70s. New Copy 2CD ... $22.99
A long-overdue fifth entry in this amazing series – and like the previous volumes, a double-length set of rare material from the Motown vaults! 20 of the 43 tracks on the set are previously unreleased – and all of the material here goes way past the hits – to really show the full amazing scope of music that Motown was recording back in the day – with obscure cuts from the big names on the label, and some equally great tracks from artists who never fully got their due! The groove is upbeat on most tracks – very much in the Northern Soul spirit of the label – and titles include "Whisper You Love Me Boy" by The Lewis Sisters, "True Fine Boy" by The Funk Brothers, "A Toast To The Lady" by Frank Wilson, "I Want A Love I Can See" by The Underdogs, "Don't Be Too Long" by Anita Knorl, "All I Have Left Are Memories" by Sammy Turner, "Hold On To Me Darling" by Ann Bogan, "Determination" by Ivy Jo Hunter, "I Don't Want You Anymore" by Chris Clark, "There's No Love Left" by Eddie Holland, "Then" by The Temptations, "A Miracle Happened" by Johnny Bristol, "All I Want Is A Little Bit Of Love" by Barbara McNair, "In Your Heart" by Patrice Holloway, "Tomorrow's Child" by Terry Johnson, "It" by Little Lisa, "When Someone's Good To You" by Oma Page, "Too Much To Hope For" by Marvin Gaye & Kim Weston, "I Wish I Liked You" by Connie Haines, "The Truth Does Hurt" by Funk Brothers, "I Don't Know What You Got" by Edwin Starr, "Only You" by Brian Holland, and "I Found My Love In You" by Tommy Good. An amazing return to form for this legendary collection – filled with never-heard numbers, pulled from the 60s and 70s vaults of Motown Records! Even if you think you've got plenty of Motown in your collection already, you'll find plenty more here to love – totally fresh tracks by some of the label's biggest artists, plus some other gems by lesser-known stars – all of which have all the punch, power, and sparkle of classic Motown at its best! The 2CD set is brimming over with greatness – and we're honestly stunned that they can still come up with so many unreleased gems, even after three previous volumes in the collection. ✨✧ Muhal Richard AbramsComplete Remastered Recordings On Black Saint/Soul Note Vol 2 (Sightsong/Shadowgraph/1-OQA+19/Lifelong Ambitions/Duet/Colors In 33rd/Familytalk/Duets & Solos/Song For All) (9CD set) ... CD
Black Saint (Italy), Late 70s/1980s. New Copy 9CDs ... Out Of Stock
Music from one of the greatest periods ever for AACM legend Muhal Richard Abrams – a time when the pianist was opening up in so many different creative directions! The first volume of this Black Saint/Soul Note series was great, but we almost like this one even better – as it features some of Abrams' more personal, more intimate recordings – which are a real revelation if you only know his bigger compositions or work with large ensembles. We love this side of Abrams as an improviser – and albums include Sightsong, with bassist Malachi Favors; Lifelong Ambitions with violinist Leroy Jenkins; Duet with pianist Amina Claudine Myers; and Duets & Solos with saxophonist Roscoe Mitchell. Other albums include 1-OQA+19, with Anthony Braxton (as you might guess from the title), Steve McCall, and Henry Threadgill; Colors In Thirty Third, with John Blake, Dave Holland, Fred Hopkins, and Andrew Cyrille; Song For All, with Eddie Allen, Craig Harris, and others; and Familytalk, with Jack Walrath, Warren Smith, and Patience Higgins. Also includes the great date led by trombonist George Lewis – Shadowgraph 5 (Sextet) – which also features Anthony Davis, Douglas Ewart, Roscoe Mitchell, Leroy Jenkins, and Abdul Wadud. All albums come in tiny record-style sleeves – and the box features 9 records in all! CD
