VariousWhere Will You Be Christmas Day? – 1917 to 1959 ... CD
Dust To Digital, 1920s/1930s/1940s/1950s. New Copy Gatefold ... $12.99
A very vintage Christmas set – one that's pulled mostly from the same sort of scratchy 78rpm recordings we've come to love from the Dust To Digital label – a great blend of folk, blues, country, and gospel recordings – all of which offer up quite a change from the usual Holiday fare! The "dust" has been reduced to a minimum, but the records are clearly sourced from analogue discs – which adds to the earthy, timeless feel of the collection – almost as if you're unpacking a special box of records from way back in the attic, bringing them out every year along with the Christmas decorations! Features 24 tracks in all – work by Kansas City Kitty, Leroy Carr, Vera Hall Ward, Pawlo Humeniuk, Cotton Top Mountain Sanctified Singers, Lord Executor, Walter Davis, Bessie Smith, Lord Beginner, and many others. ✨✧ VariousListen All Around – The Golden Age of Central and East African Music (2CDs & hardcover book – with bonus download) ... CD
Dust To Digital, 1950s. New Copy 2CD & Book ... Out Of Stock
A wonderfully beautiful package – filled with gems from the central African scene of the 50s – all packaged together with a huge book of notes that's as wonderful as the music itself! The set culls together vintage singles from the Congo, Tanganyika, Zanzibar, and Kenya – not as random rare records, but instead to showcase some fantastic musical trends that were taking place in African music during the postwar years – particularly as influences from the Caribbean were starting to hit those shores in the form of imported phonograph records. Many of these tracks showcase some fantastic acoustic guitar work along with a very hypnotic singer – while others show maybe the beginning of the Cuban influence that would come into the fold even more during the 60s – and as usual with Dust-To-Digital, the book-like presentation is as much of a history lesson and travelogue as it is a treasure trove of music. 47 tracks in all – presented beautifully! VariousVoices Of Mississippi – Artists & Musicians Documented By William Ferris (3CD/DVD/book) ... CD
Dust To Digital, Late 60s/1970s/1980s/Early 90s. New Copy 3CD, DVD & Book ... $55.99
A really fantastic little package – one that presents a key look at the farther reaches of Mississippi in the 60s, 70s, and 80s – served up in rare photographs, essays, readings, films, and a great batch of music all collected by William Ferris! Starting in the mid 60s, Ferris sought to document the disappearing scene around him – and emerged as almost a one-man version of Smithsonian/Folkways – as you'll discover in this fantastic box, which includes 1 DVD of film footage, plus a CD of rare blues, another CD of gospel, and a third CD featuring interviews and stories from Alex Haley, Barry Hannah, Bobby Rush, Shelby "Poppa Jazz" Brown, James "Son Ford" Thomas, BB King, Ray Lum, Pecolia Warner, and others! As usual with Dust-To-Digital, the whole package is beautiful – and includes a fabric-covered box with a heavy, hardcover book that features rare photos by Ferris, plus writings by Scott Barretta, David Evans, and Tom Rankin. Music is by James "Son Ford" Thomas, Lovey Williams, Scott Dunbar, Tom Dumas, Lovey Williams, Sam Myers, Sonny Boy Watson, Mississippi Fred McDowell, James Hughes, Rose Hill Church, Walter Lee Hood, Fannie Bell Chapman, The Southland Hummingbirds, and many more!
