✨✧ Count FivePsychotic Reaction ... LP
Double Shot, 1966. Sealed ... $29.99
A garage psych masterpiece! Count Five only ever recorded this one album – an instantly powerful blend of fuzzy guitars, heavy burnout organ grooves, raucous rhythms that are as urgent & hard grooving as can be – a record as important to the sound of Northern California rock as early Love records were to the sound of Southern California – which is say it's some of the most influential rock & roll of all time even if they're something less than household names! Titles include "Double Decker Bus", "Psychotic Reaction", "The World", "She's Fine", "The Morning After", and "Out In The Street". LP, Vinyl record album
(180 gram mono reissue from 2017.)

✨✧ Brenton WoodHazme Una Senal (aka Oogum Boogum) ... LP
Double Shot/Gamma (Mexico), Late 60s. Very Good ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A classic by Brenton Wood – one that crossed over big, and which was a real bright spot on the indie soul scene of the late 60s! Brenton's sound is kind of a swinging LA one – a bit pop in parts, but all-soul on the vocals, which are a bit sweet, but with a raspy edge that's always made Brenton's singles standout with soul fans over the years. The album includes Brenton's big singles "The Oogum Boogum Song" and "Gimme Little Sign" – as well as the tracks "Birdman", "I Like The Way You Love Me", "Best Thing I Ever Had", and "Take A Chance". Oddly, though, the album also features a psychedelic soul cover of "Psychotic Reaction" – the garage classic by Count Five, who were also on the Double Shot label, and who nicely let Brenton cut their song! It's real crazy – trust us! LP, Vinyl record album
(Unusual Mexican pressing, in a flipback cover!)

✨✧ Brenton WoodBaby You Got It ... LP
Double Shot/Craft, 1967. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Wonderful wonderful soul from Brenton Wood – one of the most unique singers of his day, and a talent whose voice worked well on so many types of numbers! This album's Brenton's second – a great follow-up to the first, and one that shows him pushing the envelope a lot in terms of the music he's working with. The title track – "Baby You Got It" – is a great groover with a catchy edge – one of a handful of tunes with really a charming, catchy chorus that he brings some emotional depth to. Another gem is "Gimme Little Sign" – a tune that's very much in the spirit of his earlier hit "Oogum Boogum Song", a great thing for us – but the whole thing is a gem! Other tracks include "Two Time Loser", "Trouble", "Me & You", "Darlin'", "Little Happy-Go-Lucky Girl" and "Give It Up". LP, Vinyl record album

WilcoSummerteeth (4CD set) ... CD
Nonesuch, 1999. New Copy 4 CDs ... $46.99 49.99
A sprawling deluxe version of a once semi-overlooked Wilco effort, finally being acknowledged as a major milestone for the band – as it was a huge shift from their alt country and folk rock roots towards unpredictable, though warmly approachable art rock! Still recognizable as the work of the passionate, rootsier rock band of the first couple albums, with more adventurous sounds and instrumentation – woozy keyboards, a growing knack for studio-built atmospherics – and a much more metaphorical lyrical bent. Titles include "Can't Stand It", "She's A Jar", "We're Just Friends", "Pieholden Suite", "Candyfloss", "A Shot In The Arm" and more. 4CD box set version includes the remastered original album, a packed CD full of outtakes, alternate versions and demos (24 tracks in all), an unreleased double CD live set recorded at the Boulder Theater in Boulder Colorado on November 1, 1999, and an essay by Mojo Magazine's John Mulvey. CD
(Really well done, much deserved deluxe edition – with a different live set than the 5LP version!)

✨✧ BreakestraDeuces Up, Double Down EP ... CD
Stones Throw, 2002. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The funky titans are at it again! "Deuces Up, Double Down" is a killer new track from the group – an original tune written by drummer Miles Tackett, with a heavy scattershot beat at the bottom, and lots of loud, fast, honking horns over the top. The guitar player's licking away at the cut too – and the whole thing's a delightful romping funky groove! CD version also includes a great cover of "Humpty Dump", the scratchy guitar groover originally cut by The Vibrettes – plus a "Funky Soul/16 Corners" medley, recorded live in LA at one of the band's smoking shows! Jackie ShaneAny Other Way ... CD
Numero, Late 60s. New Copy 2 CDs ... $14.99 25.98
Fantastic sounds from Jackie Shane – a Canadian soul singer who's achieved a bit of recent fame, due to her legacy as an underground trans figure – but an artist who'd already be a winner, even without such a fascinating back story! Fortunately, both sides of Jackie's life are included here – a stunning array of rare soul singles from the late 60s, alongside a heavy package of notes, photos, and other bits of Shane's unusual story – all given the wonderful Numero Group treatment! These guys have a way of digging out stories even where you might not expect them – so in the case of Jackie, their efforts are extra-important – and the heavy weight of the record really seems to emphasize that fact – as the whole thing's really a double-whammy of Numero genius. But again, even without all of that, the whole thing's more than essential for any fan of underground soul – especially female soul – half the set features her rare singles, the other lost live work – with titles that include "Sticks & Stones", "Cruel Cruel World", "Comin Down", "In My Tenement", "Send Me Some Lovin", "I've Really Got The Blues", "Stand Up Straight & Tall", "Cruel Cruel World", "Papa's Got A Brand New Bag", "Any Other Way", "Shotgun", "I Don't Want To Cry", and "Money". ✨✧ AtmosphereTo All My Friends, Blood Makes The Blade – The Atmosphere Eps ... LP
Rhymesayers, 2010. New Copy 2LP ... Out Of Stock
A record that was originally billed as an EP, really a double EP – but one that stands as maybe one of the best full length set by Atmosphere! The production allows for plenty of room for live musicianship – blended with beats, but strong enough to ensure the crossover potential of the set – which is filled with the kind of narrative rhymes that always set Slug apart from the pack! Titles include "Scalp", "The Major Leagues", "Hope", "The Loser Wins", "Americareful", "Commodities", "Shotgun", "Freefallin", and "The Number None". LP, Vinyl record album
(First time on vinyl!)
