A great live set from one of the large group giants – alto saxophonist Don
Redman, one of the key 40s forces in bringing things forward from the swing years to the generation of modern jazz! That shift is heard here beautifully – on tunes recorded for Swiss Radio in the mid 40s, with an excellent lineup that also includes Don Byas
on tenor, Peanuts Holland on trumpet, Quentin Jackson on trombone, Billy Taylor on piano, and Tyree Glenn on both trombone and vibes – the latter of which get some great space at the start of the set. Arrangements are nearly all by Redman, and all mighty fresh – and titles include "Laura", "Embraceable You", "Tea For Two", "These Foolish Things", "Stormy Weather", "Carry Me Blues", and "How High The Moon".
