Roland KirkDomino ... CD
Verve, 1962. Used ... $7.99
A key early album from reedman Roland Kirk – at set that really has him strongly finding his voice in jazz, and transforming most of modern music in the process! The set's a perfect illustration of the way that Roland could swing with soul, yet still reach out with bold new ideas too – mixing up work on tenor sax, manzello, stritch, flute, and even nose flute – instruments often played at the same time, with this amazing multi-reed style that's really mindblowing – and which follows the soaring sheets of sound of the Coltrane generation, yet completely in its own way too! There's a sharp modern edge to most of the rhythms – thanks in part to the presence of Andrew Hill on piano and celeste on a few cuts – alongside from Vernon Martin on bass and Roy Haynes and Henry Duncan on drums – and a bit of additional piano from Wynton Kelly. The whole thing's amazing – one of those records that never fails to delight us – and titles include "3 In 1 Without The Oil", "ED", "Domino", "Meeting On Termini's Corner", and "A Stritch In Time". BuzzcocksAnother Music In A Different Kitchen ... CD
Domino, 1978. New Copy ... $13.99 14.98
The fantastic first full album from The Buzzcocks – a group who'd already set the UK scene on fire with a flurry of amazing singles at the start of the punk generation! Here, they amazingly keep up all the great energy of their 7" releases – moving at a blistering pace throughout, with more focus than the Sex Pistols in their instrumentation, and a mixture of drum, bass, and guitar interplay that virtually became the blueprint for the whole west coast hardcore scene to come! Pete Shelly has never sounded so sinister, and the mighty Martin Rushnet puts the whole thing together with beautifully lean production – on classics that include "Fast Cars", "No Reply" "Get On Our Own", "I Don't Mind", "Autonomy", "Love Battery", "I Need", "Moving Away From The Pulsebeat", and "Fictionromance". It's impossible to go wrong with The Buzzcocks during their early, and all-too-short years of greatness – and this fantastic second album is head and shoulders above work from most of their classic contemporaries on the UK scene! At a time when the group had already conquered the world of the punk rock single – they completely knock it out of the park with a full length set like this – really burning on all cylinders with loads of tight, sharp, hook-heavy tracks – then getting even more inventive and expressive with their guitars, at a level that feels like it's setting the scene for all the UK fuzz to come in the next decade! Titles include their classic "Ever Fallen In Love" – plus "Real World", "Sixteen Again", "ESP", "Walking Distance", Love Is Lies", "Nostalgia", "Late For The Train", "Operators Manual", and "Nothing Left". ✨✧ Cinematic OrchestraTo Believe ... LP
Domino, 2019. New Copy 2LP ... $23.99 25.98
As longtime fans might know, the Cinematic Orchestra isn't a large ensemble, but a duo – yet the pair also have this fantastic way of creating a really spacious sound in their music – thanks in part to a very open door when it comes to creative guests! This time around, there's some fantastic voice in the lead – singers who really help give the music a very rich shape, including Moses Sumney, Roots Manuva, Tawiah, Heidi Vogel, and Grey Reverend – who add lyrics to most of the songs on the album, while the duo of Jason Swinscoe and Dominic Smith help keep the focus on the large instrumental landscape, which receives some fantastic light touches from the genius of Miguel Atwood-Ferguson this time around. It's been a while since the last project from the group – but if anything, the break has only seemed to help deepen their sound. Titles include "To Believe", "A Caged Bird/Imitations Of Life", "A Promise", "Zero One/This Fantasy", "The Workers Of Art", and "Wait For Now/Leave The World". LP, Vinyl record album

EboI'd Rather Be By Myself ... LP
Domino, 1986. Very Good ... $11.99
Ebo's got a short name, but a heavy sound – a compelling crossover vibe that's right up there with bigger artists of the 80s, but delivered here with a nicely indie feel overall! The album mixes mellow, mature cuts with others that are more upbeat and catchy – that poppy sort of groove that was bubbling over strongly in mid 80s soul, with heavy beats on the bottom that are kind of a more commercial take on the previous sound of the streets. Ebo's vocals stretch out strongly on these numbers, with a surprising degree of expression – and at times he almost calls in or shouts out the tunes, as if he was working with an old school funk ensemble. Titles include "Party Night", "I'd Rather Be Myself", "Prime Time", "Can You Forgive Me", "Count The Days", and "Always & Forever". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ VariousRemolino De Oro – Coastal Cumbias From Colombia's Discos Fuentes 1961 to 1973 ... LP
Discos Fuentes/Domino Sound, 1960s/Early 70s. New Copy ... $13.99
Old school cumbia tunes – with plenty of raw rhythms and acoustic instrumentation in the mix! The package is a wicked batch of rare numbers from Colombia's legendary Discos Fuentes – most of which are from the early and mid 60s, recorded at a time when the imprint was really making some great waves in Latin music – coming up with a regional sound that was quite different than the popular New York modes of the time – and than the host of other scenes that tried to copy it! Instead, the tunes here work in these romping rhythms that really get to the heart of the cumbia vibe – often touched with a blend of jazz inflections and folkloric instrumentation, wrapped up beautifully together. Titles include "Lorenza" by Los Gavilanes De La Costa, "Cumbia Costena" by Alejandro Duran, "Ocaso Marino" by Los Satelites, "La Pollera Colora" by Los Corraleros De Majagual, "Remolino De Oro" by Abel Antonio Villa, and "Al Amanecer" by Los Cumbiamberos De Pacheco. ✨✧ Tewolde ReddaEritrea's Guitar Pioneer – Singles 1970 to 1973 ... LP
Mississippi/Domino Sound, Early 70s. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Very cool work from this enigmatic Ethiopian guitarist – a musician whose sound is an important part of the same golden years covered by the Ethiopiques series! Tewolde Redda plays both conventional electric guitar, and an electrified version of the more traditional krar (kirar), which is used here with all of these wonderful lines and sounds – really a much more flexible range than a more conventional guitar – or maybe a bit like a conventional guitar in which someone's really working the whammy bar too! The set brings together some of his most important tracks from the early 70s – singles originally issued on Philips and other labels – with titles that include "Wuba", "Ab Tequai Kerebi", "Kab Nab", "Telsemki", "Gamey", "Monona", "Hidri", and "Kirar Mistequane". Comes with a nice booklet of notes, too! LP, Vinyl record album

Domino, 2019. New Copy CD & DVD ... Out Of Stock
An incredible combination of talents – all with results that are even greater than the sum of its parts – as the voice of Beth Gibbons fronts Symphony No 3 by Henryk Gorecki, all beautifully conducted by the hands of Krzystof Penderecki! Somehow, there's a quality here that's really transcendent of all three creative talents involved – a work that's got plenty of depth, but maybe not all the darkness you might expect – not just because Gibbons' vocalizations create this very human angle, but also because Penderecki also seems to be working from a more alive tonal palette – at least more than we're used to – using the symphony with these quietly building waves of sound – which, mixed with the voice, almost makes the whole thing feel like some more ambitious project from 4AD. ✨✧ Blood OrangeNegro Swan ... CD
Domino, 2018. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
The cover of this album by Blood Orange – aka Devonte Hynes – might imply a sort of weary bleakness – but given the quality of the music, the whole thing can't help but elevate our spirits – even if Hynes is digging even deeper than usual with his subject matter! The songs are complex and extremely thoughtful – but also have this really inspired glow that instantly illuminates their beauty – sometimes in ways that are fragile, other times with a more dynamic energy. And although the set's got a host of guests – like Georgia Anne Muldrow, A$ap Rocky, Project Pat, and others – it's clear that Devonte's guiding the ship himself, with a very strong hold on the rudder, and the spirit of the music. Titles include "Orlando", "Saint", "Charcoal Baby", "Nappy Wonder", "Dagenham Dream", "Minetta Creek", "Nappy Wonder", and "Runnin". CD

Blazing early Buzzcocks demos – officially issued at long last! These are primal, raw early recordings, circa 1976 – and a great early snapshot of one the greatest punk era bands – not only in the UK – anywhere on earth! No remix, live recorded demos, but it's no mere fuzzy, "for super fans only" mess by anys stretch, this is honestly worthy of their legacy – and with a slightly different feel than the legendary singles, given Howard Devoto sings lead rather than Pete Shelley. Includes "You Tear Me Up", "Orgasm Addict", "Boredom", "Time's Up", "Love Battery", "Don't Mess Me Around" and "I Love You, You Big Dummy". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Salum Abdallah & Cuban Marimba BandNgoma Tanzania ... LP
Domino Sound, Early 60s. New Copy ... $16.99
Beautiful sounds from the short-lived musical legacy of Salum Abdallah and his Cuban Marimba Band – a group from Tanzania, but one who play with lots of influence from Latin Music – as you might guess from their name! And yet, unlike some of the larger, fuller Latin-influenced groups that were springing up on the West African scene of the 60s, this combo has a sound that's pretty stripped-down – often just heavy percussion and work on guitar – which appears to be a unique hybrid of the Cuban style of the instrument, which gets plucked and inflected in great ways next to the vocals! The well-done set might be the best we've seen so far from the Domino Sound label – and features tracks that include "Njoo Haraka", "Naumiya", "Cuba Cha Cha", "Kutenda Maovu", "Ngoma Iko Huku", "Macho Laini", "Masikitiko", and "Asiye Bahati Duniani". Jimmy BeasleyFabulous Jimmy Beasley ... LP
Crown, Late 50s. Good ... $6.99
Fabulous Crown Records sessions by Jimmy Beasley – done for the famous LA label, but all recorded in Beasley's home town of New Orleans – with a very raw, early Crescent City vibe! Many of these cuts were done with the group of Dave Bartholomew at Cosimo's Studios – and they're filled with the kind of romping rhythms and piano lines that you'd know from some of Dave's bigger-name sessions with artists like Fats Domino or Smiley Lewis – yet Jimmy's approach here is nicely different, and far less familiar – almost jazzy at times, and with less of a need to "rock" than some of his contemporaries! That doesn't mean that these tracks don't groove with the New Orleans best – just that they've got some very cool, individual touches – and sophisticated shadings that we really appreciate. LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has splitting on the top and bottom seams, and a vintage price sticker in one corner. Back cover has a bit of light pen.)

Art Farmer/Benny Golson JazztetAnother Git Together ... CD
Mercury (Japan), 1962. New Copy ... $13.99
One of our favorite records ever from the legendary Art Farmer/Benny Golson Jazztet – and a rare later date, recorded after their more famous albums for Chess! The lineup here is a bit unusual – in that a young Grachan Moncur III is in the combo on trombone – really adding some deep, soulful tones to the music – in ways that are very different than his famous Blue Note performances – but which really shape the sound of the music here wonderfully! Harold Mabern's on piano – again bringing in a different feel to this record for the group, with some lyrical undercurrents that are beautiful – and the rest of the lineup features Roy McCurdy on drums and Herb Lewis on bass – in addition to the sublime trumpet of Art Farmer and tenor of Benny Golson. Titles include one of the best versions of "Along Came Betty" that we've ever heard – plus the tracks "Domino", "Another Git Together", "Reggie", and "Space Station. CD

Raw New Orleans soul from Overton "Smiley" Lewis – one of the city's big stars in the 50s R&B years, and a singer who arguably set the stage for later deep soul to come! A few years before, and Lewis might have been more of a blues singer – but here, he's working with some strong Nola piano lines and lightly loping rhythms – in a mode that's vaguely in the Fats Domino side of the universe, but a lot more raw and stripped-down too – from the performance to the production! Tracks include Smiley's classic "I Hear You Knocking", plus loads of other nice ones – including "Bumpity Bump", "Bells Are Ringing", "Blue Monday", "Lost Weekend", "Real Gone Lover", and "One Night". Bear Family (Germany), Early 50s. New Copy 4CD ... $112.99 129.99
A totally wonderful package – and one that will have you throwing away all the Vietnam Rock compilations you have in your collection! This set unearths a massive amount of music that was created during the Korean war – filled with themes of sadness and loss that most folks wouldn't ascribe to wartime music until a decade later – the kinds of songs that represent a really sharp change from the patriotic, triumphant songs that were usually written in previous wartime situations. The variety of music is wonderful, and served up in the best Bear Family tradition – with a surprisingly strong amount of rare blues material, mixed with hillbilly cuts, gospel, R&B material, and other styles too – almost all of it nicely away from the mainstream! The overall package is wonderful, too – a heavy, oversized hardcover book – 160 pages that offer up track-by-track notes on the music, with full color photos, label scans, and lots more vivid images. The book alone is almost worth the price – but you also get 4CDs, with 121 tracks by artists who include Dave Bartholomew, Lightnin Hopkins, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, The Revelers, Jimmie Osborne, Arthur Crudup, Ray Snead, Edna McGriff, Hank Penny, Jean Shepard, Emmit Slay, Sherman Blues Johnson & His Clouds Of Joy, Billy Mize, Elton Britt, Steve Rogers, Oscar Brand, JB Lenoir, Delmore Brothers, Ernest Tubb, The Gospel Pilgrims, Fats Domino, Max Bailey, BB King, and many more! Van Morrison at the height of his solo powers – working here in an extended live set that opens up with all the genius for vocal expression and inflection he developed during his initial solo years at Warner Brothers! Numero, Late 60s/Early 70s. Very Good+ 4LP Box Set ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The best look at Chicago's legendary Twinight label that we've ever seen – a massive set that goes way past the obvious hits, and really digs into the heart and soul of this unique little record company! Twinight is best known as the home of Syl Johnson during his legendary run of funky soul singles at the end of the 60s – but the company was also home to a lot of other great talent during the same stretch – harmony vocal groups, sweet soul singers, funky combos, and more – all of which you'll hear in this incredible little set! (And in fact, the set does such a great job of presenting the other artists on Twinight, that it leaves out Syl Johnson entirely – so the package is a 100% non-Syl set – which is ok with us, because you can always get Johnson's work on other reissues.) The Numero Group have really outdone themselves this time around – using their careful ear to pull out the best lost bits from Twinight, remastered here with wonderful sound – and the heavy inner sleeves of the LPs have notes that tell the story of the label, and also includes loads of vintage photos. The set's a must-have for any fan of quality funk or soul – and the package includes a whopping 53 titles that include "Goin Man Huntin" by Jo Ann Garrett, "I've Made Up My Mind" by Josephine Taylor, "A New Day" by The Notations, "Nevermore" by Renaldo Domino, "Yesterday's Mistakes" by Jimmy Jones, "I'll Always Love You" by Velma Perkins, "Life Walked Out" by Mist, "Put Out The Fire by Mystiques, "You & Me Baby" by Kaldirons, "Rosemarie" by Dynamic Tints, "Remind Me" by Schiller Street Gang, "Is It Meant To Be" by Krystal Generation, "Pardon My Innocent Heart" by Nate Evans, "Package Of Love (part 1)" by Dynamic Tints, "The Devastator" by Stormy, "Mama" by Annette Poindexter, "Pass It On (part 1)" by Pipes Of Peace, "My Sunshine Girl" by Radiants, "Let Me Come Within" by Renaldo Domino, "Soul Strokes" by Sidney Pinchback, and "Can You Find Me Love" by Harrison & The Majestic Kind. 4LP set is beautiful – packaged in a special box, and with 13 bonus tracks not on the CD version – plus updated liner notes, more photos, and a full Twinight singles discography! Nicely nasty tunes from the generation that inspired the music of The Cramps – that massive underworld of 45rpm and 78rpm singles in the 50s and early 60s – recorded at a time when just about anything was fair game to capture in the studio! The styles here vary as much as the huge selection of tracks on the set – which features 50 rare singles you'll likely not find otherwise, all put together with a wonderful sense of surprise that really keeps things interesting all the way through! Warner (Japan), Late 60s. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A very soul-based entry in this totally groovy series – one that brings together soul tracks from Warner, Atlantic, and related labels – but often with the same upbeat crossover vibe that fits the "pop rock nuggets" spirit! Yet despite that, many cuts here are relatively obscure – cool numbers by bigger acts, mixed with some other tracks that hit a big bigger on the charts – served up in a sweet list of 25 cuts that include "Angel Baby" by Darrell Banks, "Ain't That Terrible" by Roy Redmond, "Some Kind Of Wonderful" by Soul Brother Six, "Pushin A Good Thing Too Far" by Barbara Lewis, "I'm Gonna Run Away From You" by Tami Lynn, "He's Got The Nerve" by True Tones, "Cool Jerk" by The Capitols, "Crazy Baby" by The Coasters, "Hypnotized" by Linda Jones, "The Man with The Golden Touch" by Charles Thomas, "Take A Step" by Aesop's Fables, "Lady Madonna" by Fats Domino, "Go Out Walking" by Soul Survivors, "Here I Go Again" by Archie Bell & The Drells, and "I Love You For All Seasons" by The Fuzz. ✨✧ John Carter & Bobby BradfordFlight For Four ... CD
Flying Dutchman/Ultra Vybe (Japan), 1969. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Spectacular work from one of the most groundbreaking groups of its time – the legendary John Carter/Bobby Bradford Quartet – quite possibly the hippest thing going in the LA scene of the late 60s! The group includes Carter on alto and tenor, Bradford on trumpet – working together in these amazing lines that have both players running off together in a style that's free, but often quite rhythmic – spurred on to move past the new freedoms unlocked by the Ornette Coleman group a few years before! Yet the vibe here is very different than Ornette, too – given the bold, righteous power that comes through in the voices of both players – working here at a level that seems to blow away just about anything else going on in the American avant garde at the time. The group has just two more players to round out its amazing sound – Tom Williamson on bass, and Bruz Freeman (brother of Von and George!) on drums – and all tracks are long and free, yet also fragile and intimate – with an almost painterly sense of beauty and emotion that stands in stark contrast to much of the avant work of the time coming out of the east coast. Titles include "Domino", "Abstractions For Three Lovers", "Woman", and "The Second Set". CD

✨✧ VariousShanghai'd Soul – Episode 4 ... LP
Numero, Late 60s/1970s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Some of the heaviest cuts from the Numero Records catalog – brought together here on a cool compilation that follows the format of some of the Wu-Tang/Shaolin funk collections! The music is way more than break-oriented funk – as some of these tracks are deep soul numbers, but have this sock-solid energy at the core that really makes them powerful – every bit as hard-hitting as more overstated funk, and often with a subtle, sinister energy that really makes the songs sound wonderful together here as a whole! And despite the lack of the usual voluminous Numero Group notes and story behind the music, these tunes more than stand together on their own – telling their own rich story in soul, through tracks that include "Like A Ship" by TL Barrett & The Youth For Christ Choir, "Nevermore" by Renaldo Domino, "Never Walk Out On You" by Mitch Mitchell & Gene King, "Don't Be Surprised" by Lynn Williams, "Am I A Good Man" by Them Two, "This Time" by Family Connection, "I Need Your Love" by Skim Mahoaney & The Casuals, "Is There Any Love" by Trevor Dandy, "Dirt & Grime" by Father's Children, and "Ladies & Wonderful Girls" by Majestic Arrows. Justin Hines & The DominoesJezebel/Just In Time ... CD
Island (Japan), 1976/1978. Used ... $18.99
A nice heavy platter from former Treasure Isle star Justin Hinds and his backing group the Dominos, with a double helping of rootsy goodness! Both of the albums on this set feature production by Jack Ruby and the backing of the Black Disciples band – with Robbie Shakespeare, Horsemouth Wallace, Ansel Collins and others, the team that helped Burning Spear craft some of his best roots albums around the same time. Hinds had a rawer, less polished approach to his own singing, and the vocal harmonies of the Dominos followed suit, making this set stand out from the rest of the pack Island was recruiting in the mid 70s. The Black Disciples craft a nice batch of tough rhythms for a pair of great, mid-70s roots sides, maybe not as widely known as some others, but still crucial and classic! 19 tracks in all, including "Fire", "Prophecy", a nice recut of his earlier hit "Carry Go Bring Home", "Dip And Fall Back", "Natty Take Over", "What You Don't Know", "Let's Rock", "Help Your Falling Brother", "Bad Minded People", "What You Gonna Do", "One Bird In The Hand", "Groovin", "Positive Way" and "Stop The Rain". Donald ByrdPlaces & Spaces ... LP
Blue Note, 1975. Good+ ... Just Sold Out!
An incredible record that was one of the highest points of Donald Byrd's career! The album's the third one he cut with producer/arranger Larry Mizell – and of all Byrd's work with Mizell, this one's the funkiest, the tightest, the most soulful, and the most perfectly realized vision of the smooth jazz funk sound that the team was aiming at. Every track is a winner – and the album glides along with a slippery sinewy groove, never pausing for a weak moment or a misplaced note, shimmering with pride in its own genius. Byrd's trumpet soars over the top, banking gracefully over waves of funky drums, spacey keyboards, and extremely well-placed vocals – all brought together perfectly by Mizell, with a tightly fused style that few people have ever been able to match in the studio since! Tracks include "Change (Makes You Want To Hustle)", "Dominoes", "Wind Parade", "Places & Spaces", and "Night Whistler". LP, Vinyl record album

VariousGreatest Jamaican Beat/Tommy McCook & The Supersonics Soul Rocksteady (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Treasure Isle/Doctor Bird (UK), Late 60s. New Copy 2CD ... Just Sold Out!
A pair of killer albums from the rocksteady years – back to back in a single set, with a heck of a lot of bonus tracks too! First up is the compilation Greatest Jamaican Beat – also titled Rocksteady Baba Boom Time – seminal Duke Reid productions from the key rocksteady years – and a set that shows just how much the rhythm was changing things on the Jamaican scene, both at a vocal and instrumental level! There's a slow-loping vibe to most of these tracks – an approach that really sets the scene for the reggae explosion to come – yet most of the instrumentation still has the strong horn work of the ska/blue beat generation, and even some of the jazzier work of the Kingston scene at the start of the 60s – thanks in large part to Tommy McCook, who plays a fair bit on the set. Titles include "Tommy's Rock Steady", "Hot Rock", "Soul Serenade", and "Down On Bond Street" by Tommy McCook & The Supersonics – plus the killer "Baba Boom" by The Jamaicans, "Drink Wine" by The Techniques", "Release Me" by Phyllis Dillon, "Mercy Mercy Mercy" by The Paragons, and a great remake of "Hey Leroy Your Mama's Calling You" by Sam Jones. The second half of the set features a record completely devoted to work from the great Tommy McCook and his Supersonics group – instrumental rocksteady gems that are filled with plenty of twists and turns! McCook was one of the sharpest saxophone players on the Kingston scene in the 60s – and his varied styles and sounds here are completely incredible – really blowing away contemporary recordings by King Curtis or Jr Walker, partly because Tommy also knows when to bring in just the right current of jazz. Titles include "Soul Rock", "Starry Night", "Zazuka", "Train To Ska-Thedral", "What Now My Love", "Sir Don", "Saboo", and "Never To Be Mine". 2CD set features 26 bonus tracks – 13 more by Tommy McCook & The Supersonics – and more by Norman Grant, The Gladiators, Jamaicans, Justin Hinds & The Dominos, Three Tops, Eric Morris, Treasure Isle Boys, and Gloria & Franklin. Treasure Isle/Doctor Bird (UK), Mid 60s. New Copy 2CD ... $15.99
Four albums' worth of vintage ska from the Jamaican scene – presented here with a heck of a lot of bonus tracks too! These tracks are the real deal – some of the earliest tracks to be circulated under the name of the new style – and the sorts of songs that just about everyone tried to copy right off the bat, and kept on trying to match for decades more! The work all comes from the magical fingers of Duke Reid, of the Treasure Island label – and there's a fair bit of jazz in the mix too, as these groups are overflowing with talented musicians who were playing straighter jazz just a few years before. The package features the full albums Birth Of Ska, Latin Goes Ska, The Skatalite, and Don Drummond's Greatest Hits – plus 19 more bonus tracks – with work by Duke Reid's All Stars, Don Drummond, Botty & Bonny, Rico Rodriguez, Justin Hinds & The Dominoes, Owen & Leon Silvera, Eric Morris, Roland Alphonso, Clive & Naomi, The Richards Brothers, Baby Brooks, and many others. 58 tracks in all! Way more than just the Doo Wop promised in the title – as the set starts with raw harmony work of the 50s, then moves up to include a whole bunch of 60s soul too! The set's a great overview of the evolution of vocal group modes during these crucial years in American music – and some familiar hits are mixed up nicely with lesser-known gems – showing that the compilers really used their heads to put the package together. There's a total of 60 tracks in all, plus a nice booklet too – and titles include "I Believe" by The Earls, "For Sentimental Reasons" by The Cleftones, "The Girl I Love" by The Cadillacs, "I Count The Tears" by The Drifters, "A Casual Look" by The Six Teens, "Down On My Knees" by The Heartbeats, "Out Of Sight" by The Five Keys, "Come Back My Love" by The Cardinals, "Bad Boy" by The Jive Bombers, "Sixty Minute Man" by The Dominoes, "Little Darlin" by The Diamonds, "Lonely Way" by The Skyliners, "The Angels Listened In" by The Crests, "A Wonderful Dream" by The Majors, "Let Me In" by The Sensations, "Smoky Places" by The Corsairs, and "Wish You Were Mine" by The Fireflies. ✨✧ VariousGreater Jamaica Moonwalk Reggae/Reggay At Its Best (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Trojan/Doctor Bird (UK), Late 60s. New Copy 2CD ... Out Of Stock
A pair of wonderful lost albums – presented here with a huge amount of bonus tracks too! First up is Greater Jamaica Moonwalk Reggae – a set that showcases the newly tight groove of the Kingston scene, courtesy of producer Duke Reid – with an especially strong emphasis on basslines and organ, with less of the full horns than you might have found a few years before! The set's maybe worth it alone for the fantastic funky number "Lock Jaw" by Dave Barker – but the whole thing's great, and other titles include "Only A Smile" by Glen Adams, "Drink Milk" by Justin Hinds & The Dominoes, "Moonlight Groover" by Winston Wright, "Stealing Stealing" by John Holt, "You Were To Be" by The Gladiators, "Quando Mi Amor" by The Ethiopians, and "Funky Funky Reggae" by Dave Barker. Reggay At Its Best is a fantastic showcase for the tenor talents of Tommy McCook – the saxophonist who was as important to the Kingston scene as Jr Walker was to Motown and Detroit – equally able to stand on his own as an instrumental lead, and really keep a strong soul instrumental spirit! Tommy blows with the Supersonics group – and titles include "Tribute To Don", "Live Injection", "Doctor No Go", "The Saint", "Bongo Nyah", and a version of "The Liquidator" – and the album also features a few non McCook cuts, "Joy Ride" by Karl Bryan and "Zylon" by Winston Wright. 2CD set features a massive 38 bonus tracks from the same time – all other Duke Reid numbers, with work by Tyrone Evans, The Melodians, The Silvertones, Errol Dunkley, The Gold Tones, Girl Satchmo, Vincent Gordon, The Righteous Flames, The Yard Brooms, and many others.
