Don CarlosMediterraneo – Club Favourites Collection 1990 to 1998 ... CD
Irma (Italy), 1990s. Used ... $4.99
A great collection of 90s club tracks from Italian house maestro Don Carlos – simple, straightforward groovers that have a sound that we daresay will be appreciated even more now than when they were first released! Carlos is working in a spare blend of beats, bass, and keys – very much the blueprint for the deeper club sound of more recent years – and almost a "warming-up" of the Chicago style of the 80s for the Italian clubs of the 90s. Titles include "Agua", "Dharma", "I Can Love Nobody", "Play It Again", "Alone (flute version)", "Mediterraneo", and "Free". CD

✨✧ TopazListen! ... CD
Velour, 2000. Used ... $8.99
Killer stuff from the soon-to-be famous Topaz! This is his second album, and it's even better than the first – which was a huge sleeper a few years ago here at Dusty Groove. The record's got a wonderful electric jazz sound – with a sophisticated funky feel that reminds us of some of the best sides on the Kudu label during the 70s, or of some of the more electric work from the later Blue Note years. The band includes Fender Rhodes, tenor sax, trombone, trumpet, Prophet, and percussion – and although most of the cuts are instrumental, there's a few vocal numbers that are pretty great too! In a way, the album's got the same solidity as the first Brand New Heavies album – and we're expecting it to have the same sort of long-lasting appeal for fans of funky jazz. Features a cover of Donald Byrd's "The Emperor", plus "Let Go", "Listen!", "Rez", "Peyote Eyes", and "Dharma". CD

✨✧ ChiminyoI Am Chiminyo EP ... LP
Gearbox (UK), 2019. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Pretty amazing work from Chiminyo – aka jazz drummer Tim Doyle, who also finds a way to trigger samples when he plays – creating this one-man sound on the record that really comes as quite a surprise! All three tracks on the EP were performed live by Chiminyo – and while he's handling drums and percussion, he also works his way through samples that are played live too – not a previously-recorded soundscape, but a complex blend of elements that move between electronic pulses, global sources, and bassy bits that are mighty nice – served up on the tracks "Kandy Lanx", "We'll Never Know", and "Dharma Bodies". ✨✧ VariousPsych Funk Sa Re Ga! – Seminar – Aesthetic Expressions Of Psychedelic Funk Music In India 1970 to 1983 ... CD
World Psychedelic Classics, 1970s/Early 80s. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A funky psychedelic kaliedoscope of grooves from India – killer numbers from the 70s and into the early 80s – Psych Funk Sa-Re-Ga, from the folks who put together the equally heavy Psych-Funk 101 and Brazilian Guitar Fuzz Bananas compilations! Most of cuts here have a raw, fuzzed out undercurrent of psychedelia – guitars that buzz or lead searingly, depending on the needs of the number – with heavy, funk-based drums and/or hand percussion with rumbling bass rhythms. From that core, they bust out mightily with more furious percussion, rhythms, mad horn arrangements, and vocals that work as either a sweetener or for even more wild-eyed excitement! In short, global psychedelic funk rhythms with regional Indian folk and classical flourishes, blended with mod, soul, garage and soundtrack influences from around the globe. It's a funky, psychedelic fusion of east and west that's billed as a seminar, but this is no academic endeavor – it's a psych funk party all the way! Includes "The Mod Trade" by The Black Beats, "Psychedelia" by X'Lents, "Somebody To Love – Edit" and "Gairaag Dance Music – Edit" by Kalyanji Anandji, "Dance Music From Hare Rama Hare Krishna" by RD Burman, "Lekar Ham Diwana Dil" by RD Burman feat Asha Bhosle & Kishore Kumar, "Mary Long" by Atomic Forest, "Dharmatma Theme Music" by Kalyanji Anandji, "Phir Teri Yaad" by Hemant Bhosle feat Asha Bhosle, "Thanimayil" by Ilaiyaraaja fet Vani Jairam & Chorus and more. 20 tracks in all – with a thick booklet of notes on each track, plus loads of photos, original album & poster art, and more.
