✨✧ Billy Larkin & The DelegatesAin't That A Groove ... LP
World Pacific, Mid 60s. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
One of the greatest records ever cut by organist Billy Larkin – a lean, mean batch of soul jazz instrumentals, recorded with the Delegates combo, featuring tenor work by a young Fats Theus! The tracks are short tight jazz dancers – with a mixture of stepping grooves and some more full on rhythmic modes – and titles include "Tarantula", "Soul Sister", "Playboy Theme", "Puget Sound", "Gwon Train", "Ain't That A Groove", "Ain't Gonna Move", and "Goin Out Of My Head"! One of his great ones! LP, Vinyl record album
(Stereo blue label pressing – a nice clean copy!)

✨✧ Billy Larkin & The DelegatesHole In The Wall ... LP
World Pacific, Mid 60s. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
One of Billy Larkin's early tight little records, with his excellent organ combo The Delegates, and their trademark hard guitar and keyboard sound. Lots of nice groovers, including "Hot Sauce", "Hot Toddy", "Soul Beat", "Little Mama", and their version of the title cut, which was one of those minor 60s hits which were hotly disputed as to who had the original recording! ✨✧ Billy Larkin & The DelegatesPigmy ... LP
Aura, Early 60s. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Killer stuff! This is one of Billy's earliest albums, and it's a monster batch of funky organ tunes with a much harder groove than on later works! The group is Billy's early Delegates trio – with Hank Swarn on guitar and Mel Brown on drums – and bad, bad grooves abound: including the legendary "Pigmy", plus "Foxy Little Ghoul", "Grooveyard", "The Peeper", with a few jazz standards and cool blues numbers thrown in to mix things up. Very hot hard heavy and funky! LP, Vinyl record album

Solid Smoke, Late 50s/Early 60s. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Killer Chicago soul – features early Kool Gents cuts "Just Like A Fool", "This Is The Night", "I Just Can't Help Myself", and "Crazy Over You" – plus Delegates cuts "Mother's Son" and "I'm Gonna Be Glad". Also features Clark cuts "I'm Going Home", "It's Impossible", "Raindrops", "Hey Little Girl", and "Your Friends". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Billy Larkin & The DelegatesBlue Lights ... LP
Aura, Early 60s. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
An excellent early album by organ player Billy Larkin, and his first version of the Delegates, which included drummer Mel Brown. As an added bonus, the great tenor player Clifford Scott joins them on most of the tracks here, and the recording is one of his best sessions away from Bill Dogget. The tracks are short, hard, and very in-the-pocket – like the tracks on the group's Pigmy album, which is also from the same time. This is the kind of stuff that was played to death over and over on south side jukeboxes in the 60's. Check out cuts like "Sticky Wicket", "Transfusion", and "The Cooker", and it's easy to see why! VariousWe Got A Sweet Thing Going On Vol 3 ... CD
Soul Junction (UK), Late 60s/Early 70s. New Copy ... $8.99 18.99
A great volume in this really fantastic collection – a series that really reminds us that there's still so much great work to discover in the world of underground soul! As with previous volumes, this set focuses on the sweet soul style of the late 60s and early 70s – that moment when groups around the US were really maturing to a new level of vocal harmony – sometimes using a bit of funk in the mix, sometimes going for these sublime ballad modes that brought a new level of emotion and heartbreak to the music! You're sure to know bigger names like The Moments or Delfonics, but this is work that was cut at the same time, in the same mode, but which never fully got its due – pulled together by the longtime soul historians at Soul Junction – and even featuring a few never-issued tracks. Titles include "Read It & Weep" by Bobby Banks, "Give It A Chance To Grow" by The Toppiks, "Running Wild" by The Scott Three, "Lucky Guy I Am" by Delegates Of Soul, "Imitation Of Life" by Music Machine, "This Is Love" by The Holidays, "Plain As The Nose (alt unissued version)" by The Four Thoughts, "Love Song About You" by Robert Montgomery, "I'm Going To Treat You Good" by The Donations, "You Got To Steal It" by The Flairs, "Win All Your Love" by The Toppiks, "Nothin Left 2 Do" by The Coalitions, and "Stop Look & Listen" by The Jonesetts.
