✨✧ NnekaSoul Is Heavy ... CD
Yo Mama/Decon, 2011. Used ... Out Of Stock
The best yet from Nneka – a creative beacon for modern artists balancing political and social lyricism with universally resonant hip hop soul! The Nigeria-born, Germany-based singer bridges genres masterfully, skirting trends and delivering straight up excellent, unique songs. Reggae rhythms and hip hop beats along with some great use of horns, keys and other instrumentation – led by Nneka's songwriting and voice out front. A core facet of her songs is the search for peace in a world of struggle, something most of us can relate to, and her perspective is unique and beautiful. Includes "Lucifer (No Doubt)", "Sleep" feat Ms Dynamite, "My Home", "Shining Star", "Restless", "Don't Even Think", "J", "Stay", "Soul Is Heavy", "Do You Love Me Now", "VIP", "God Knows Why" feat Black Thought, "Still I Rise" feat Wuru Samba & Mohammed and more. CD

Benjamin BiolayVengeance ... CD
Naive (France), 2013. Used Gatefold ... $5.99
Beautiful work from Benjamin Biolay – easily one of our favorite French artists of the 21st Century – even though we've been following his work since the previous one! Benjamin's got a sound that's just perfect if you, like us, dig an older generation of French work by artists like Serge Gainsbourg, Jacques Dutronc, Michel Polnareff, and others from that magical late 60s moment when French pop really found its own sound. Biolay's got a way of sliding in the sinister next to the groovy – often with vocals that are spoken as much as sung – and produced to perfection by his own strong ear for unusual combinations of sounds. Benjamin helped launch the career of many other great French acts in the past decade or two – but we still love his own work the best – and an album like this definitely lives up to that faith. Titles include "Venganza", "Marlene Deconne", "Personne Dans Mon Lit", "Confettis", "La Fin De La Fin", "L'Insigne Honneur", and "Tresor Tresor". CD

PrinceRainbow Children ... CD
NPG, 2001. New Copy ... $9.99
Really fantastic work from Prince – an album that's maybe not as famous as some of his 80s classics, but which has the maestro in perfect form throughout! There's all these warm jazzy currents in the music that we totally love – especially on the keyboards, which have a glow and flow that clearly seems to be Prince's way of showing the Neo Soul generation that he not only helped carve out the territory that first got them going, but also can still do it maybe better than anyone else! The album still has some of the heavier funk that Prince was always known for – but it's the warmer, mellower moments we totally love – on titles that include "Last December", "The Work", "Everywhere", "The Sensual Hereafter", "Muse 2 The Pharoah", "Deconstruction", "Wedding Feast", "1+1+1 Is 3", and "She Loves Me 4 Me". ✨✧ Blonde On BlondeReflections Of A Life (with bonus track) ... CD
Ember/Esoteric (UK), 1971. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
That's a really trippy cover on this second album from Blonde On Blonde – and the sound is nicely trippy, too – a bit more complex than on their debut album – with just the right dose of psych elements thrown into the mix of their well-crafted songs! Acoustic guitar actually gets a bit more place in the sound than before, but there's also a balance of more electronic effects, additional percussion, and even some use of banjo and harmonica to give the group a slight roots element they never had before – one that's maybe a bit more in keeping with their Dylan-referenced name, but with a result that's leaning more towards UK acid folk than anything from America. Titles include "Gene Machine", "Sad Song For An Easy Lady", "The Bargain", "The Rut", "Happy Families", and "No 2 Psychological Decontamination Unit". CD features a bonus track – "Sad Song For An Easy Lady (single version)". CD
