✨✧ ResidentsEskimo Deconstructed (40th anniversary 2LP/CD set) ... LP
Ralph (UK), 1979. New Copy 2LP/CD ... Out Of Stock
A very weird take on The Residents' classic Eskimo album – their strange tribute to the musical culture of the Inuit, served up in a very strange mix of electronics, sound effects, and other weird sonic elements! The group was always a bit obtuse in their presentation – and never showed the world their faces, either – so we're not entirely sure if we can be sure of their claims that they're playing instruments made of the guts and bones of arctic wildlife. But this stripped-down "deconstructed" version of the record might offer the closest answer to that question – as it brings together all these weird sounds, snippets, instrumental moments, and other ephemera that went into creating the core album – music served up over four sides of the vinyl, plus a bonus CD that includes "genuine Arctic storm and atmospheric field recordings" harvested back in the late 70s! Blonde On BlondeReflections Of A Life (with bonus track) ... CD
Ember/Esoteric (UK), 1971. New Copy ... $6.99 14.99
That's a really trippy cover on this second album from Blonde On Blonde – and the sound is nicely trippy, too – a bit more complex than on their debut album – with just the right dose of psych elements thrown into the mix of their well-crafted songs! Acoustic guitar actually gets a bit more place in the sound than before, but there's also a balance of more electronic effects, additional percussion, and even some use of banjo and harmonica to give the group a slight roots element they never had before – one that's maybe a bit more in keeping with their Dylan-referenced name, but with a result that's leaning more towards UK acid folk than anything from America. Titles include "Gene Machine", "Sad Song For An Easy Lady", "The Bargain", "The Rut", "Happy Families", and "No 2 Psychological Decontamination Unit". CD features a bonus track – "Sad Song For An Easy Lady (single version)". CD

Andrew Thomas WilsonChain Reaction (180 gram vinyl) ... LP
Dual Planet (Australia), 1980. Very Good+ ... $14.99
Moog and synth-heavy soundtrack to the early 80s nuclear horror B-Movie Chain Reaction! Composer Andrew Thomas Wilson pairs up elements of eerier synth and proggy rock inspired soundtracks by John Carpenter, Goblin and benchmark acts/composers of the period with some more droning, minimalist bits, and busy, nascent 80s electro pop and rock. Compelling stuff played on a mighty arsenal of period synthesizers and keyboards – mostly by Wilson himself, with only some additional help on guitar, drums and bass. Includes "Awakening", "The Beast", "Decontamination", "Heinrich's Theme", "Chain Reaction", "Once More With Feeling", "Paradise Valley", "The Hand At The Window" and more. LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Prefuse 73Sacrifices ... CD
Lex, 2018. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Prefuse 73 doing his distinctive thing – mood-setting, hypnotic beats that roll from raw and deconstructionist to big and boisterous – with plenty off off-kilter melodic touches between! The range from stripped down and mellow to dense and rollicking is impressive as always, and his way of putting such signature stamp on the craft of abstract electronics an spacey hip hop beatcraft is impressive ever. There's coolly layered vocals too that give it a lot of atmosphere. Titles include "Late To The Party", ""Gravure", "The World Is Bigger", "We Lost Our Beat Tape In Mecca", "In The Blood", "Silver And Gold", "Her Desire Is To Be Left Alone", "Transmission Of Eights" and more. ✨✧ Jordan YoungJazz Jukebox ... CD
Posi tone, 2016. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Drummer Jordan Young has a great quartet here – one that features Brian Charette on Hammond, who shapes the sound as much as Jordan's drums! In fact, the organ's so up front in the lead, the record might almost come across as being under Charette's leadership – but, like the time when drummer Joe Dukes was the leader for organist Jack McDuff, we can also hear Young's influence on the whole thing too – that tight snap and crackle that brings a strong focus to the tunes, along with the guitar of Matt Chertkoff and tenor of Nick Hempton. Hempton gets in plenty of great solos too – and titles include the originals "Giant Deconstruction" and "Sao Paulo Nights" – plus versions of "Paris Eyes", "ESP", "I'm Only Sleeping", "Son Of Ice Bag", and "Time In A Bottle" – plus a wonderfully groovy take on the "Love Boat" theme!
