Lo BorgesRio Da Lua ... CD
Deck Disk (Brazil), 2019. New Copy ... $18.99
Fantastic work from Lo Borges – the legendary Brazilian singer that we've loved since his first "corner club" work with Milton Nascimento in the 70s – and who looks as if he hasn't aged a bit in the photo included with the album! Borges was always one of the strongest Brazilian songwriters of his generation – and a sophisticated, subtle singer whose approach was always just right for his words – an approach that hasn't changed a bit, as Lo works here with older musical partner Nelson Angelo, whose help was so important on his first self-titled album from 1972! Backing is by a small group, nicely under-produced – and all songs are originals by Borges and Angelo, with titles that include "Rio Da Lua", "Profeta, "No Caminho", "Em Outras Cancoes", "Foto 3 x 4", "Antes Do Tempo", and "Partimos". Toquinho50 Anos De Carreira (DVD) ... DVD
Deck Disk (Brazil), 2018. New Copy ... $13.99
A beautiful celebration of 50 years of music from Toquinho – but one that doesn't just live in the past, and instead shows us all the growth he's experienced over the decades! Toquinho first came on the scene as a famous partner of poet/singer Vinicius De Moraes – a great late-life collaborator who helped Vinicius keep new ideas flowing, after famous 60s material with Baden Powell and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Yet after the passing of that famous force in Brazilian music, Toquinho really seemed to hit his stride – with vocals that only deepened with maturity, and a way of using his strong talents on acoustic guitar at a level that was so different than the bossa generation. Here, you'll hear Toquinho in all his glory – a warmly collaborative setting that also features contributions from Anna Setton, Paulo Ricardo, Tie, Mutinho, and Veronica Ferriani – younger artists who've continued to be inspired by the singer's legacy. Titles include "Made In Coracao", "Que Maravilha", "Carolina Carol Bela", "A Noite", "Tarde Em Itapoa", "Aquarela", "Samba Pra Vinicius", and "A Tonga Da Mironga Do Kabulete". DVD features bonus "making of" material, and some other bonus bits too! DVD
(DVD is NTSC, All Region.)

✨✧ Lo BorgesDinamo ... CD
Deck Disk (Brazil), 2020. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A really fantastic album from the great Lo Borges – and proof of that long-running adage about Brazilian singers – they never falter as they age, and most seem to be able to hold onto all that made them great in the first place – at a level that's very different from artists on the Anglo side of the spectrum! Lo first rose to prominence as part of the "corner club" of Milton Nascimento – and his songwriting really helped propel Nascimento in the 70s, and was also the start of a great run of fantastic, but oft-overlooked (at least on our shores) records by Borges himself – a sublime legacy that's really continued here, in a set of well-penned songs that sparkle with all the many charms of Lo's key records in the 70s. Titles include "Dinamo", "O Caos Da Cidade", "Refugio", "Altajuda", "Lava Do Vesuvio", "Quantos Janeiros", and "Apontando O Norte". CD

✨✧ Joao DonatoManagarroba ... CD
Deck Disk (Brazil), 2002. Used ... Out Of Stock
After years of obscurity, it seems like there's no end to the comeback strength of Joao Donato! This album is one of the best of the recent flurry of work from this under-recorded bossa master – a lightly jazzy set that features his warm lead vocals on nearly every track, plus some occasional duets with other singers like Joyce, Marisa Monte, Joao Bosco, and Marcelo D2! The record's really bubbling over with warmth – magical piano lines hitting a nicely rhythmic groove, Joao's vocals dancing underneath with his usual sense of modest charm. Old and new tracks are handled with equal magic – and titles include "Flor Do Mato", "Nao Tem Nome", "Muita A Vontade", "Caminho Do Sol", "Falta De Ar", "E Muito Mais", "E Vamos La", "Balanca", and "Nao Sei Como Foi". ✨✧ Marcos ValleCinzento ... CD
Deck Disk (Brazil), 2020. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
One of our favorite Brazilian artists of all time – stepping out here with a record that really lives up to all the faith we've had in his music over the decades! Back at the start of the 90s, Valle had all but disappeared from the recording world – but since that time, he's continued to mature and grow as an artist – really stretching himself, expanding his sound, and moving forward his groundbreaking styles of the 60s and 70s, which continue to influence new generations as time goes by! Here, there's some of the warmth of the soul records that Marcos cut in the 80s, including his collaborations with Leon Ware – but with touches of more unusual, more personal elements too – so that you'll have a sweet electric sound on one number, and a more pronounced acoustic element on the next – all made even more interesting by some of the collaborative help on the album's compositions, which include contributions from Moreno Veloso, Domincio, Kassin, and Emicida. Titles include "Se Proteja", "Pelo Sim Pelo Nao", "Rastros Traros", "Nada Existe", "Posto 9", "So Penso Em Jazz", "Lugares Distantes", and "Cinzento". CD
