✨✧ Digable PlanetsReachin' (A New Refutation Of Time & Space) ... CD
Pendulum/Elektra, 1993. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A jazz-inspired hip hop uberclassic! While Digable Planets might not have pioneered the jazzy hip hop vibe – we might nod to the Native Tongues scene and DJ Premier's productions in the late 80s for that – Digables set a new standard with breezy but head nodding production and mellow, laidback rhyme style that dug into the abstract lyrical realm more than any of their predecessors. Still sounds fresh today, too! Includes "Where I'm From", "It's Good To Be Here", "What Cool Breezes Do", "Time & Space (A New Refutation Of)", "Rebirth Of Slick (Cool Like Dat)", "Escapism (Gettin Free)", "Pacifics", "Appointment At The Fat Clinic", "Swoon Units", "Last Of The Spiddyocks", "Examination Of What", "Nickel Bags", and "Jimmi Diggin Cats". "Alright" gets the classic Todd Terry bump, while D Zire and Drumhead dub the track out nicely at a more moderate tempo, with just the right touch of space dust and a fat, fat bottom. 12-inch, Vinyl record

Express RisingExpress Rising (2nd album) ... CD
Numero, 2013. New Copy ... $7.99 13.00
A warm batch of instrumental beats and atmospherics from Express Rising – and a much-anticipated second project from funk archivist Dante Carfagna! Dante's a name you probably know best from his work writing liner notes or Wax Poetics – and helping out in countless important compilations over the years – but a decade ago, Dante dropped his first mysterious project under the Express Rising name – and finally returns here with a second album! The sound is even more enticing this time around – still drawing a bit from the world of DJ Shadow – a frequent Carfagna collaborator on archive projects – but the sound is also surprisingly warm and lyrical too – bits of beats, layers of older sounds, and these spare keyboard bits all served up together in a style that's really unique – and which avoids any of the cliches of both the downtempo world, and the instrumental hip hop scene The approach is often quite poetic, yet still soulful as well – and the whole thing's got a laidback vibe that's neither sleepy nor muddled – a really sort of special space between the grooves. Titles include "Horse Opera", "Dark Early", "Answering Echo So Near", "Winter The Heart", "A Treasure Smile", "Rooms Between Us", and "Memorabilia". CD

VariousBrownswood Bubblers Volume 13 ... CD
Brownswood (UK), 2018. New Copy ... $9.99 14.99
A lucky number 13 for the Brownswood Bubblers series – a great reminder that the compilation is still one of the best places we know for getting turned onto new music from the global underground! And by that, we don't mean the lame dance music "underground" of more than a decade ago – where this week's big track would go stale by the next. Instead, this territory is much richer – plumbed by DJ Gilles Peterson via his Worldwide Radio series, and the always-great work of the Brownswood label – an imprint that's dedicated to finding the best sort of genre-crossing, category-defying music we've always loved here at Dusty Groove! The tracks within are proof that in the right hands, soul, jazz, and other styles know no boundaries – or limits of imagination – on cuts that include "Ley Lines" by Emma Jean Thackray, "Nuketown" by Tiana Khasi, "Something My Heart Trusts" by Yazmin Lacey, "Ideas" by Sonnymoon, "No White God" by Oscar #Worldpeace, "Move" by Lynda Dawn, "Sailor" by Wu Lu feat Binisa Bonner, "Only Trying 2 Tell U" by Puma Blue, "Jury Judge Executioner" by Alxnder London, and "Continue The Fun (space version)" by Mauskovic Dance Band. VariousFar Out 100 ... CD
Far Out (UK), 2005. New Copy ... $7.99 14.99
A joyous celebration of the mighty Far Out label – now over a decade old, and still one of the most freshly creative companies around! Far Out is the brainchild of London DJ Joe Davis, who has a great way of bringing together older bossa-styled grooves with a fresher take on the genre. Joe's approach is really unique, and it's one that's neither subject with the overdone bossa-remix cliches that have cluttered the market in recent years, nor the too-sleepy bossa-revival jazz that's always nice to hear, but never that exciting. Far Out really has a tremendous way of putting over a groove – one that lets the artist work at their own pace, but which also seems to push them a bit further than they might otherwise go – a fact that's certainly apparent in the label's ability to revitalize the careers of older artists like Marcos Valle, Joyce, and Azymuth! The 16 track set features 5 previously unreleased tracks, plus some other overlooked treasures for the label – all very nicely packaged at a low low price! Titles include "O Tempo Samba" by Grupo Batuque, "Demoro" by Joyce, "Tanto Tempo (unplugged)" by Vertente, "Space Carnival (Global Communications rmx)" by Azymuth, "Nao Quero Nem Saber" by Sabrina Malheiros, "Agua" by Nina & Chris, "Espada De Prate" by Celia Vaz & APE, "Pez" by Troubleman, and "Valeu (4 Hero rmx)" by Marcos Valle & Joyce. ✨✧ Cut ChemistAudience's Listening ... CD
Warner, 2006. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Cut Chemist brings his deep digging style out of the world of legendary mix sets and behind-the-scenes hip hop wizardry – finally out front with (can you believe this?) his first ever solo album! Sadly, you have to worry when a great hip hop DJ/producer gets a major label solo album in this sad day and age of expensive sample clearance, as they often feel a little bit neutered by the system. Never fear in this case. Chem builds his signature eclectic craft around samples – some fairly obvious and some quite surprising – with occasional live instrumentation and a few appearances by topshelf underground MCs. The sounds are far too diverse to nail in a sentence or two, but they run from a catchy hip hop thump, to some Brazil-sampling groovers, to funky avant garde bits. Too many newer beatmakers opt for an obtuse, laptop-derived, barely musical approach. All the more reason to cherish Cut Chemist! Tracks include "Motivational Speaker", "(My 1st) Big Break", "The Lift", "The Garden", "Spat", "What's The Attitude" feat Hymnal, "Metrorail Thru Space", "Storm" feat Edan & Mr Lif, "2266 Cambridge" feat Thes One, "Spoon", "A Peak In Time" and "The Audience Is Speaking Theme Song". ✨✧ VariousEccentric Soul – The Nickel & Penny Labels ... CD
Numero, Late 60s/Early 70s. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A long-overdue collection – and a rich document of one of our favorite sides of the Chicago soul scene! The package is devoted to the tiny Nickel and Penny labels, but it's also equally a set dedicated to legendary radio DJ Richard Pegue – whose work in both mainstream soul and later dusties formats really helped to shape our understanding of soul music! Pegue produced and wrote nearly every track on the set – which makes the collection one of the most unified the Numero Group has ever produced – a true tribute to Richard's great ear for a groovy soul record, and to all the smaller-name groups he helped support on the Windy City scene. The booklet does a great job of telling Pegue's story – really getting at the unique vision he brought to Chicago soul, and the wit and warmth that made him a favorite of many folks over the space of decades. The music alone is enough – stuff we've been waiting to get reissued for years – but together with the Numero research and booklet, the end result is sublime! Titles include "Just Say The Word" by Jerry Townes, "Fall In Love Again" by The Voices, "Never More" by Little Ben & The Cheers, "Why Do You Want To Make Me Sad" by The Norvells, "Instrumental 1" by Richard Terry & Company, "Shadows" by South Shore Commission, "This Is The Woman" by Sidney Pinchback, "The Ember Song" by Sidney Barnes, "Sign Of The Zodiac" by South Suburban Electric Strings, "This Love Of Mine" by Extensions, "Forever Is A Long Long Time" by The Voices, "Do The Pearl Girl (part 2)" by The Matta Baby, "I've Got To Find A Way" by Hallelujah Chorus, "First Thing I Do In The Morning" by Joyce Williams, and "I'm Gonna Get Even With You" by Little Ben & The Cheers. Ronny JordanOff The Record ... CD
Blue Note, 2001. Used ... $6.99
Ronny's groove is firmly in place here – and the album's one of his strongest in years! The record still has plenty of numbers that follow in Ronny's "hip hop meets jazz funk" mode – but there's also some sweet NuSoul production on the best cuts, really letting the guitar lines sparkle out with all the soulful warmth that we remember from Ronny's early albums, still making enough space for guest stars to come in and vocalize a bit, leaving the album with some extremely nice soul tracks. Working with Ronny on this set are DJ Spinna, Sy Smith, Fay Simpson, Love-Child, and Excite – and tracks include "Ronny You Talk Too Much", "Once Or Twice", "Keep Your Head Up", "No Pay, No Play", "Off The Record", "Underworld", and "Floor & More". Habibi Funk, 1973. New Copy ... $14.99 15.98
Monstrous funk from Morocco – unreleased material recorded in 1973, with a sound that should have revolutionized North Africa at the time! The group works here in a really raw blend of heavy percussion and riffing guitar – produced with lots of edge and echo, and delivered with the spirited vibe you'd expect from the ensemble's appearance on the cover! There's plenty of criss-crossing between the lead and chorus vocals on the set – but the guitar gets plenty of space too, and has this really sharp quality that's clearly informed by psych, but funkier overall – and very different than any work of the sort from farther down the continent. Drums are super-heavy, and the basslines match as well – on titles that include "Albaki", "Taali", "Chamaa", "Aflana", "Kaddaba", "Moulate Salef", and "Al Hadaoui". CD

One of the more obscure entries in the Django series of Italian spaghetti western films of the 60s – but one that's got a really wonderful soundtrack, penned by one of the more obscure artists to provide music for the Italian scene too! Vasco Vassil Kojucharov really echoes some of the coolest styles of his contemporaries here – from driving themes, to nicely moody numbers that might have a piano line echoing in space, or a spare fuzzy guitar bit making a bold statement before a moment of action! And as with others of this nature, there's also a few sweeter moments – that really great balanced of moods and timing that Morricone hit with Once Upon A Time In The West – maybe copied a bit here by Vasco, but in a really great way. 26 tracks in all! ✨✧ Christian Scott Atunde AdjuahStretch Music ... CD
Ropeadope, 2015. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A brilliant record and a big step for Christian Scott Atunde Adjuah, at a point when he truly was stretching out creatively in a big way – seamlessly mixing classic electric jazz influences & modern electronic touches! Scott is on trumpet, his custom sirenette & reverse fluegelhorn, mixing earth-bound sounds and spacey atmosphere throughout – and the band includes Braxton Cook on alto, Lawrence Fields on piano and Rhodes, Corey King on trombone, and Corey Fonville and Joe Dyson Jr on a pretty impressive mix of drums and sampler atmosphere. It starts off strong with "Sunrise In Beijing", an impressive showcase for flautist Elena Pinderhughes, who really helps this one take flight over the spacey & stuttering percussion. Other tracks include "Twin", "Perspectives", "West Of The West", "Liberation Over Gangsterism", "Of A New Cool", "Tantric", "The Last Chieftain" and more. CD

✨✧ Nordjordet (Oyonn Groven Myhren/Bugge Wesseltoft)Nordjordet ... CD
OK World (Norway), 2018. Used ... Out Of Stock
A fantastic meeting of ancient and modern on the Norwegian jazz scene – a set that echoes some of the vintage Scandinavian folk/jazz experiments of the 60s, but with a very different vibe! The project is a collaboration between traditional singer Oyonn Groven Myhren, who also plays this beautiful traditional lyre – and genius keyboardist/producer Bugge Wesseltoft, who also plays harmonium and "Groven-orgel" on the album! Yet the set's way more than just a duet between the two, because there's a mix of bass, percussion, and reed instruments in the mix too – taking the music into this majestic territory that's neither the traditional sounds that inspired it, nor the airy spare space of some of Bugge's other projects. Oyonn's vocals are amazing – completely mesmerizing, even if you don't know the language – and titles include "Mane Og Sol", "Kvedarjenta", "Svikefull Jomfru", "Du Minnes Nok", and "Dod Seplemann". Production by Organized Noize, Scott Storch, J Beattzz, DJ Cutmasta Swiff and others, many songs with co-production credit to Big Boi, and we would take that seriously. Labi SiffreMy Song – 50th Anniversary Box Set (9CD set) ... CD
Edsel (UK), Early 70s/Late 80s/Early 90s. New Copy 9 CDs ... $64.99
An insanely wonderful collection of work from the great Labi Siffre – a UK singer/songwriter who's unlike anyone else we can think of! Labi's definitely a soul singer at the core – and his work has been sampled by DJs and producers over the years – but he's also got a much deeper, more thoughtful vibe to his music too – an ability to pen the sorts of tunes that make these classic records rival the best coming out of the LA scene during the early 70s, but produced with maybe a more different, distinct sort of British approach! If you've heard Labi before, you'll know the special genius we're talking about – a quality that puts him in the same unique space as artists like Rodriguez or Terry Callier in their prime – and if you haven't, you'll find plenty here to discover, as the set features all his classic albums, plus bonus tracks too! The first 6CDs feature material from Siffre's first chapter on record – early 70s albums that include Labi Siffre, Singer & The Song, Crying Laughing Loving Lying, For The Children, Remember My Song, and Happy – plus a big number of bonus tracks added to each album. The remaining 3CDs offer later work from his re-started career – So Strong, Man Of Reason, and The Last Songs – again with bonus tracks on each disc. Each album comes in a cover that reproduces the record, and the set features 146 titles in all, 44 of which are bonus tracks – with a 32 page booklet of notes. CD

Not of Johnny's more famous albums, but it's plenty darn nice – and done in a wicked blend of spacey vocals and keyboards that's very much in the best Guitar Watson mode! There's a bit of a bump to a few tunes on the set, clearly a move to make it onto the dancefloor – but the album's hardly a cheap disco effort, as all the Watson guitar, vocals, and humor dominate the record strongly – and seem to come alive with a bit of new energy away from some of the usual bluesier settings. Titles include the great scatting number "Wrapped In Black Mink", plus "Miss Frisco", "Baby Face", "You Can Stay But The Noise Must Go", and a remake of "Gangster Of Love". LP, Vinyl record album

Extraterrestrial synths and tight, dancefloor-ready grooves from Cabo Verde – compiled here on one the most mindblowing Analog Africa collections in years! The well-detailed, beautiful-illustrated notes (an always welcome feature in Analog Africa set) tells the story of a cargo ship full of Korg, Rhodes, Moog, Farfisa and Hammond synths and keyboards – bound for an 1968 expo in Rio – turning up on a Cabo Verde island instead, and the rest is history! There's a clarity and consistency in both sound quality and in the performances, track-by-track, that's pretty incredible. A big part of the consistency is Cabo Verde musical legend Paulino Vieira and his group Voz De Cabo Verde serving as the band on around half the material here, but the whole thing is great – just a killer mix of regional sounds with wild spacey instrumental accents! Titles include "Pinta Manta" by Antonio Sanches, "Dia Ja Manche" by Dioniso Maio, "Morti Sta Bidjacu" by Jose Casimiro, "Pontin Pontin" by Bana, "Mundo D'Margura" by Tchiss Lopes, "Po D'Terra" by Joao Cirilo, "Sintado Na Pracinha" by Americo Brito, "Djal Bal Si Camin" by Antonio Dos Santos, "Stebo Cu Anabela" by Abel Lima and more. Charlie ByrdGuitar Artistry Of Charlie Byrd ... CD
Riverside/OJC, 1960. Used ... $6.99
Artistry is a word that's not used lightly here – as the album gives Charlie Byrd plenty of space to show off his deepest talents on the acoustic guitar – in a spare trio setting with Keter Betts on bass and the lesser-known Buddy Deppenschmidt on drums! The format is one that was rare at the time – used for only a handful of virtuoso players, such as Laurindo Almeida – but the setting is a perfect one for Byrd's introspective approach, and gives him plenty of room to illustrate the rich array of influences that go into his sound. Tracks are short, and Byrd's guitar is upfront – and titles include "Django", "Nice Work If You Can Get It", "The House Of The Rising Sun", "Taboo", and "Ring Them Harmonics". CD

Serge GainsbourgEn Studio Avec Serge Gainsbourg (3CD set) ... CD
Universal (France), Late 50s/1960s/1970s/Early 80s. New Copy 3CD ... $24.99
A treasure trove of rare work from the legendary Serge Gainsbourg – studio outtakes, alternate versions, and lots of other material that stands as a great addition to the catalog of one of the coolest, grooviest French language singers ever! This 3CD set is overflowing with gems – and CD1 brings together rare tracks by Serge himself – some from 45 or LP projects, but presented here in different modes that stand as a wonderful complement to some of the versions you might know – almost like a "part 2" or extended take in some cases. Titles include "Black Trombone (avec intro)", "L'Homme A Tete De Chou (instrumental)", "Sea Sex & Sun (extrait des prises voix", "Chez Les Yeye (prise complete)", "L'Eau A La Bouche (avec intro)", "69 Annee Erotique (instrumental)", and two very long tracks – "Melody (prise complete)" and "Lola Roastaquoouere (instrumental)". CD2 features various interpretations of Serge's songs – many of which were produced by Serge himself, and a few of which even feature vocals by Gainsbourg! The music spans the space of his early Latin and jazzy work, through his slinky sexy 60s and 70s years, to his final burst of great music in the early 80s. Titles include "J'Ai Deja Donne" by Jacques Dutronc, "Les P'Tits Papiers" by Regine, "Les Papillons Noirs" by Michele Arnaud, "Mambo Miam Miam" by Los Goragueros, "Le Sixieme Sens" by Juliette Greco, "L'Oiseau De Paradis" by Zizi Jeanmarie, "Les Petits Boudins" by Dominique Walter, "Le Mal Interieur" by Isabelle Adjani, "Plus Dous Avec Moi" by Charlotte Gainsbourg, and "Le Drapeau Noir" by Mirelle Darc. CD3 features great music that Serge Gainsbourg did for a variety of cinematic projects – music that's every bit as groovy as his own vocal tunes, and which often appear here in instrumental takes that let you focus even more strongly on his great sense of a funky bit and a groove! Titles include "Milena (instrumental)", "L'Eau A La Bouche (avec intro)", "Requiem Pour Un Con (instrumental)", "First Class Ticket (prise alternative)", "Les Chemins De Katmandou (generique)", "Le Village A L'Aube", "Discophoteque (rough mix)", and "Le Physique Et La Figure (version complete)", plus Anna Karina singing "Roller Girl". Jose JamesNo Beginning No End 2 ... CD
Rainbow Blonde, 2020. New Copy ... $13.99 14.98
Really mindblowing work from Jose James – an artist we loved right from his very first record, but one who has us completely over the top with this record – a set that may well push James from the soul underground into firmly classic territory – the sort of space that will have the record standing strong with soul classics from decades back, and for a long time to come! Jose's tremendous vocally, but there's also an extra-special spirit to some of these tunes – one that's still very strongly in the hands of the man himself, even though James opens the door for plenty of guests – a lineup that includes Ledisi, Christian Scott Atunde Adjuah, Aloe Blacc, Lizz Wright, Eric Truffaz, and others – not the kind of guests who overwhelm and take a too-strong turn in the spotlight, but the right sort of addition to the core sound. Titles include a surprisingly great remake of "Just The Way You Are" – plus "Turn Me Up", "I Need Your Love", "Saint James", "Take Me Home", "Oracle", "Feels So Good", "I Found A Love", and "You Know What I Do". Kaleta & Super Yamba BandMedaho ... CD
Ubiquity, 2019. New Copy ... $11.99 14.98
That's a pretty trippy cover on the front, and an image that really sums up the vibe of this excellent record from Kaleta – a set that's even sharper and funkier than any of his previous efforts – yet which has some nicely way out qualities too! The instrumentation is heavy on elements from old school funk – both Afro and Anglo – but the execution is very individual, and graced strongly by the wicked guitar work of the leader – who steps out in front of the band with the majesty of some West African genius from years back – calling out boldly with his lyrics, and turning out guitar parts that clearly know the farther reaches of the fuzzy spectrum, but which also never stray too far from the groove to get lost in their own space! Everything is tight and right on the money – and the record packs a lot more punch than some of its contemporaries, as you'll hear on titles that include "Hungry Man Angry Man", "Jibiti", "Goyito", "Medaho", "La Guele", "Adjoto", and "Gogo Rock". VariousJazzflora – Scandinavian Aspects Of Jazz ... CD
Dealers Of Nordic Music (Sweden), 2004. Used ... $4.99
In case you haven't noticed lately, the Scandinavian scene's blowing up large – and for good reason! As this set nicely documents, there's a rich array of great groups up north – groundbreaking combos with one ear towards the jazzy riffs of 70s European jazz – bringing more life and light into their work than previous Scandinavian electronicists – and creating tracks that are especially appealing to our classics-steeped ears! The feel here is tremendous – with a classic/modern counterpoint that rivals the best on Compost or Schema – and which has the added influence of decades of Scandinavian fusion, funk, modal jazz, and vocalese! Titles include "Trading Eights" by Five Corners Quintet, "Marinade" by Kahuun, "Noisuf (raw jazz take)" by Stockholm Cyclo, "Open The Door" by Elsa, "I Love You My Friends" by Hird, "Kovin Lentaen Kotin Kaipaan" by Kuusumun Profeetta, "Good & Bad" by Povo, "Logic Of Space" by Iony, and "Bloodstream" by Oddjob. BBE (UK), 2004. Used 2 CDs ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A very well-titled set – and the best so far in this cutting-edge series! The "beats and pieces" this time around are mostly underground club tracks from the past few years – the cream of the crop of the best bits that hit our New Grooves section, often served up in harder-to-find mixes that represent the best version of the tunes so far! There's no overall stylistic logic to the set, which is what makes it so great – as mellow soul steps into funky club, into spacey fusion, global house, 21st century groove, then dancefloor jazz! 2CD set features 22 tracks that include "Wake Up" by Herbert, "La Malanga (Kenny Dope rmx)" by Bobby Hutcherson, "Fall Into You" by Stateless, "Hot In Here" by Tiga with Jake Shears, "Take Off (Nicola Conte's Campi's Idea version)" by Nathan Haines and Marco Di Marco, "Bukom Mashie" by Oscar Sulley & The Uhuru Dance Band, "Somebody New" by Georg Levin with Clara Hill, "Besides Myself" by DJ Shaheer Williams, "Timbuktu" by Pan African Electronic Beats, "Someone To Love" by Crusho, "Love & War (version)" by Amp Fiddler, "Forty Days" by Billy Brooks, and "Fall Into You" by Stateless. ✨✧ J DillaDillatronic ... LP
Vintage Vibez, Late 80s/1990s/2000s. New Copy 2LP (reissue)... Out Of Stock
A killer compilation of rare Dilla instrumentals that hones in on his electronic-influenced side! It's the first time his archives have been mined with this sharp of a focus – but Dilla being the diverse cat that he was, it's STILL got a incredible stylistic sprawl! The beats are head nodding, soul steeped and insistent as can be, and that keeps it grounded in mesmerising, unpretentious hip hop throughout – but with lots of room for spacey synth atmosphere, spare bits of cosmic keys, bouncing electro funk accents and other touches. A nice exploration of rare instrumentals from his archives as we've seen in a single set – 41 untitled tracks running about 70 minutes all together, and it STILL leaves us wanting more. Compiled by Detroit DJs Alien Villainz, for Ma Dukes and the Dilla estate. LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Jim HallConcierto/Big Blues/Studio Trieste ... CD
BGO (UK), Late 70s/Early 80s. New Copy 2CD ... Out Of Stock
3 great CTI records from Jim Hall – including work with Art Farmer, Chet Baker & Hubert Laws – in a great 2CD set! Concierto is one Hall's most compelling albums from the 70s – a mix of lightly swinging tunes and more complicated numbers, recorded with some of his best partners from earlier years! Chet Baker is on trumpet, Paul Desmond is on alto sax – and the rest of the group includes Ron Carter bass, Roland Hanna piano, and Steve Gadd on drums. The centerpiece of the album is the 19 minute long "Concierto De Aranjuez", and other tracks include "The Answer Is Yes", "Two's Blues" and 5 bonus tracks including "Rock Skippin'", "Unfinished Business" plus a few alternate takes of album tracks. Big Blues is sweet and subtle genius from Art Farmer and Jim Hall – in a quintet with vibes by Mike Mainieri – in a style that eschews the electric funk of other CTI records, but has a similar sense of space, sound, and rhythm overall – proof that the label's groundbreaking approach didn't always have to be electrified! Tracks are quite long, and the two leaders effortlessly craft notes that magically hang in space with an airily soulful feel. Titles include wonderfully reworked versions of "Whisper Not", "A Child Is Born", and "Pavane For A Dead Princess". Studio Trieste is great later date with Chet Baker & Hubert Laws! The session's a larger group effort headed up by Don Sebesky, and featuring key solos by Chet Baker, Jim Hall, and Hubert Laws – all of whom get plenty of room to do their thing on the album's longer tracks! Other players include Kenny Barron, Jack Wilkins, Jorge Dalto, George Mraz, and Steve Gadd – plus bit of added percussion – and although the group is large, the overall sound is relatively lean – spacious and airy, in keeping with Baker's best moments on records like these, and always sensitive enough to let Hall's gentle work on the strings of his guitar shine through nicely! Titles include "Malaguena", "Django", "Swan Lake", and "All Blues". CD
