✨✧ Wanda JacksonRockin' With Wanda (UK pressing – with bonus tracks) ... LP
Capitol (UK), 1960. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Wanda Jackson may look nice and sweet on the cover, but she's a raw rocker throughout on this classic Capitol album from early in her career – cut at a time when Jackson was drinking a brew that was equal part R&B, hillbilly, and early rock influences – all fused together in a wonderfully powerful groove – one that definitely fits her unique vocal approach! Wanda sings at a level here that really should have done permanent damage to her vocal chords – this raw, throat rasping mode that's instantly recognizable – and forever set the tone for all the later female rockers who might never have come later, had Jackson not opened the door! Titles include "Fujiyama Mama" – one of the most incendiary unsung rock and roll singles of all time – plus other great ones like "Rock You Baby", "Cool Love", "Honey Bop", "Baby Loves Him", "Mean Mean Man", "You've Turned To A Stranger", and "Hot Dog That Made Him Mad". 80s UK pressing – with bonus tracks "Whole Lotta Shakin Goin On", "Savin My Love", "Let's Have A Party", and "Yakety Yak". LP, Vinyl record album
(70s purple label pressing. Cover has light wear and a tiny center split in the top seam.)

✨✧ Don WilkersonComplete Blue Note Sessions (Preach Brother/Elder Don/Shoutin) ... CD
Blue Note, Early 60s. Used 2 CDs ... Out Of Stock
A long-overdue reissue of the three Blue Note albums recorded by tenor sax giant Don Wilkerson! Wilkerson's one of the lesser-known artists to record for the label – a deep-throated Texas tenorman with a style that's a bit more R&B influenced than other Blue Note artists. The label took this huge talent, and set it up in some perfectly-conceived settings, inflecting Wilkerson's rootsiness with some of the soul jazz modernism of players like Grant Green, John Patton, Sonny Clark, and Ben Dixon. The set features all the tracks from the albums Elder Don, Preach Brother, and Shoutin – and titles include "Jeanie Weenie", "Lone Star Shuffle", "Drawin A Tip", "Movin Out", "Happy Johnny", "Sweet Cake", "Scrappy", "Pigeon Peas", and "Dem Tambourines". 18 tracks in all! CD
