Karin KrogRaindrops, Raindrops ... LP
Crippled Dick (Germany), Late 60s/Early 70s. Very Good+ ... $24.99
An incredible compilation of work by one of our favorite singers ever! Karin Krog hails from Norway – where during the 60s and 70s she cut some incredible records – far more than simple jazz vocal sides, a mix of words, grooves, and fusiony touches, the likes of which have never been approached by any other singer! Karin's got an icy tone to her style that makes it a perfect match for electric piano – and you'll hear plenty of that pairing on this set, which pulls together some of Karin's best groove-heavy tunes of the late 60s and early 70s – many of them versions of tracks you might recognize, but done here in spacious spacey versions that sound completely different! Players include John Surman, Steve Kuhn, Stu Martin, Jan Gabarek, Philip Catherine, and Dexter Gordon – and titles include "Time To Go", "Maiden Voyage/Lazy Afternoon", "We Could Be Flying", "I'll Wait For You", "Raindrops Raindrops", "Hold Out Your Hands", and "New Spring". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ VariousJeff Recordings – Rough Beats From Peru & Trinidad 1972-1976 ... LP
Crippled Dick (Germany), Early 70s. Near Mint- 2LP ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A peek into a secret musical world – the Latin-tinged groove scene handled by producer Jeff Nieckau in the early 70s! Nieckau was a German sound engineer who ended up bumping around a lot overseas during the 60s and 70s – eventually landing in Peru at the end of the 60s, and moving to Trinidad during the early 70s – both of which locations form the basis for the recordings on this ultra-cool set! Nieckau brought a European style of production to the rougher musical genres of the nations – taking Latin and Caribbean tracks into the studio and presenting them in a post-colonial mode, with the edges sanded slightly, and a lot more focus on the groove! The result is a great batch of tracks that fuse together a variety of genres – Latin, bossa, dub, calypso, steel band funk, and more – all bubbling forth in one of the coolest sets of funky tracks you'll buy this year! Titles include "Think", "Get Out Of My Way", and "Berimbau" by Bossa 70, "Endless Vibrations" by Lord Shorty, "Yo Tink It Sorf" by Lancelot Layne, "Nothing For Nothing" and "Beat The Drum" by Mansa Musa, "Diego Shuffle" by Mike Boothman, "Carapachiama" by Andre Tanker, "Black Man's Cry" and "Caterpilla" by Gay Flamingoes Steelband, and "Chip Down" by Clive Zanda.
