Lee Hazlewood's WoodchucksCruisin' for Surf Bunnies ... LP
Light In The Attic, 1964. New Copy ... $21.99 23.98
One of the rarest Lee Hazlewood projects of the 60s, and one of the most unique as well – a set of surf-themed instrumentals, but served up with a nice current of exotica too! Given that Lee first rose to fame in the late 50s, for his excellent production of Duane Eddy's guitar – the mix of modes here is a perfect advancement of his roots – taken into even cooler, even hipper territory – with that really wonderful sense of sound that always made some of Hazlewood's productions so amazing! Most songs have a guitar in the lead, but are performed with less of the super-tight modes of surf groups – as many of the numbers are leaner, and more spacious – and go for a great sense of the overall sound. Titles include "Movin", "Bangkok Cock Fight", "Crickets Of Karachi", "Torn Sarong", "Batman", "Baja (parts 1 & 2)", and "Angry Generation". LP, Vinyl record album

Made In Brasil with Victor MNumero Um ... LP
Nucleus, 1975. Sealed ... $11.99
A totally sweeeeeeeet batch of Brazilian grooves – recorded in San Francisco, with a great 70s Bay Area sound! Victor M leads the group on percussion and vocals – but the real charm of the set is in its electric piano riffing, and soulful electric vibe. Most of the cuts have vocals – kind of in a Sergio Mendes 70s style, or in the mode of some of Marcos Valle's more electric work – and although the tunes are mostly familiar numbers like "Reza", "Agua De Beber", "Zazueira", "Upa Neguinho", and "Crickets Sing For Anamaria", they're done in a mode that's very fresh – kind of a bridge between 60s Brazilian interpretations, and later ones by recent groups! Lee Scratch PerryHeavy Rain ... CD
On-U Sound (UK), 2019. New Copy ... $15.99 16.99
A dubbed-up remake of Lee Scratch Perry's excellent Rainford album – done in strong partnership with producer Adrian Sherwood, and featuring guest help from a host of talents – including the legendary Brian Eno, and trombonist Vin Gordon! The sound here is right up there with the earliest On-U Sound recordings – a forward-looking approach to Perry's older legacy, but never overdone with any sort of too-contemporary elements – that perfect blend that made Sherwood and the label so great back in the day. Titles include "Crickets In Moonlight", "Mind Worker", "Ensighted", "Hooligan Hank", "Dreams Come True", "Above & Beyond", and "Heavy Rainford". CD

Marcos ValleBraziliance! ... CD
Warner/Mr Bongo (UK), 1967. New Copy ... About February 14, 2020
One of the most important early albums by Marcos Valle – a set of instrumental tracks recorded with lots of acoustic guitar! Even though Valle was well known as a singer and composer of bossa nova tunes, the set instead focuses on his instrumental work – recording his guitar ala Jobim or Bonfa at the time – with some larger arrangements from Deodato, who really brings a great feel to the set! The sound is tremendous – as sweeping strings soar over tight rhythms from drummer Wilson Das Neves – and Valle and Deodato set some magical moods on tunes that include "Deus Brasileiro", "Vamos Pranchar", "Tanto Andei", "Seu Encanto", "Batucada Surgiu", "Dorme Profundo", and "Os Grilos" – the first ever recording of "Crickets Sing For Anamaria"! Marcos ValleSamba '68 (Japanese pressing) ... CD
Verve (Japan), 1968. Used ... $9.99
One of the grooviest Verve albums of all time – a rare American session from Brazilian legend Marcos Valle – and his only US album to feature vocals! The album's even dreamier than Valle's early bossa sides from Brazil – and the setting has some nice Verve-like touches from Deodato – who handled the arrangements, and brings a nicely airy, nicely jazzy style to the record. Most tunes are sung as duets with his lovely wife Anamaria – made famous by the album's landmark groover "Crickets Sing For Anamaria" – an English-language version of Valle's earlier "Os Grilos". Other titles are all great too – and sport English lyrics that hardly ever got much exposure. In addition to the great "Crickets Sing For Anamaria", other titles include "The Face I Love", "She Told Me She Told Me", "Pepino Beach", "Chup Chup I Got Away", and "Batucada". CD

VariousNight Has A Thousand Soundalikes – 60s Teen Pop Influenced By Bobby Vee ... CD
Teensville, Mid 60s. New Copy ... $13.99 14.99
Bobby Vee might not be the best-remembered name from 60s rock – but back in the day, the singer had a big string of hits, and a sound that influenced plenty of others at the time – as you'll hear in this cool collection of Vee-inspired soundalike tracks from the time! Bobby's style was maybe a precursor to the Brit Invasion – a way of having the vocals sound sweet, but often wrapped around the twang of the guitar – both resonating with a sense of wideness that often make great use of echo in the production to blend the elements together. That approach is carried forth wonderfully here – by artists who are inspired by Bobby's style, then take things in their own direction – in a big set of 35 tracks that include "Dining & Dancing" by Bobby Pedrick, "I Don't Care Anymore" by Jerry Modine, "I Wanna Be There" by Vic Dana, "I'll Step Aside" by Jimmy Clanton, "Please Don't Cry" by Brad Newman, "Miss Kiss & Run" by Buddy Greco, "Playboy" by The Crickets, "You Have No Right" by Alan Vallone, "Our Love Is Here To Stay" by Don Brandon, "A Girl Needs To Love & Be Loved" by Marc Thatcher, and "Heartbreak" by Joe Melson. ✨✧ VariousI Fought The Law – The Sound Of West Texas 1958 to 1962 ... CD
Eleven Light City (UK), Late 50s/Early 60s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
A very cool look at the west Texas scene at the end of the 50s – a fervent hotbed of musical activity that would impact the worlds of rock and country for decades to come! The scene's most famous graduate, Buddy Holly, had passed on by the time most of these tracks were recorded – but there's still lots of that same great energy in the material here – most of which is produced with a great blend of rock and twang! The set's got some especially noteworthy early recordings by Waylon Jennings, which are quite different than his later famous work – titles that include "When Sin Stops", "Another Blue Day", and "Never Again". Other titles include "Lovely Dovey" and "Ling Ting Tong" by Buddy Knox, "Guess We'll Fall In Love" and "You're In Love" by Bobby Fuller, "I'm A Poor Loser" and "Let Him Try" by Mac Davis, "Joe's Back In Town" by Billy walker, "Tonight" by The Velvets, "More Than I Can Say" by The Crickets, "I Won't Go Hunting With You Jake" by Jimmy Dean, "The Crowd" by Roy Orbison, and "Hey Baby" by Bruce Channel with Delbert McClinton.
