2 killer 70s soundtracks back to back in one package – both augmented by loads of bonus tracks! First up is the score to Zigzag, a really standout score from Oliver Nelson – a set that's got some of his groovier touches at times, but also features some pretty great straighter scoring as well! The record really shows Nelson stepping out from his older role as a strictly jazz-based arranger – and although there are some jazz touches here, there's also some even more impressive larger orchestrations that soar out with a majestic use of strings. The CD features 10 tracks from the film, 11 more from the album recording for MGM, and 6 especially rare numbers sung by Anita O'Day for the film, and The Outfit! Roy Orbison sings a vocal number called "Zigzag" – and other instrumental tracks include "The Other Car", "Love Theme", "Earphones", "This Robe Is Shot/
Out Of Focus", "Breakout", "This Is A Brain Tumor", "Yes Your Honor", and the great "Variation Of Themes", which has a wonderfully dancing bossa groove to it! Anita O'Day songs include "I Concentrate On You", "On Green Dolphin Street", "You Were Meant For Me", and "Everything I Have Is Yours". Jerry Fielding's score to Super Cops is pretty great too – a really driving action soundtrack that's filled with some of his trademark touches! The main theme has a snapping drum that's almost militaristic at times, but a lot more rhythmic – and used to punctuate some of the funkier tracks on the record – giving them a driving, urgent feel that's totally great! Instrumentation often features complicated horn passages, cascading down over one another – but there's some other tracks that are more in a straight ahead funky mode too, with some of the electric 70s
cop touches you might expect! The CD features 20 tracks from the original film – and adds in 5 more from the film Hawkins, and another batch of 5 more from Jerry Fielding's Source Cafe, including instrumental cues from The Outfit. Titles include "The Sniper", "Angels/
Everybody Down", "Pull The Shade", "Interior Hock Shop", "After
Shoot", "Rotunda", "Blood Feud", and "Murder In The Slave Trade".
