Cool MillionStronger ... CD
Lounge (UK), 2019. New Copy ... $14.99
A really great full length set from Cool Million – a group who don't give us nearly as many records as we'd like – because by this time, they should have a recorded legacy to match that of Incognito or Brand New Heavies! Like both of those groups, these guys have a great way of going back while still moving forward – borrowing the best classic elements to add to their music, while also keeping things lean and contemporary too! The group have always had a great way with singers – and this time around, the set features guest vocals from James D-Train Williams on two tracks – plus more guest work from Sophia Ripley, Yolonda Lavender, Matthew Winchester, Seest, Jasmine Franklin, and Boogie Back. Titles include "Stronger", "Keep On", "No Matter What", "Your Move", "Come Back Home", "Queen Sugar", "I Love The Way You Fly", and "Slow Burn Love". CD
Also available Stronger ... LP 22.99

Iron ButterflyIn-A-Gadda-Da-Vida ... CD
Atlantic, 1968. Used ... $1.99
The album that rocked a million dorm rooms back in the 60s – and for good reason, too – given that the title track is a side-long, totally jamming monster – the kind of track that was really revolutionary at the time, and which still has a hell of an impact all these many years later! "In A Gadda Da Vida" was shortened to a single – with the big hook intact – but this classic album version runs for 17 minutes in length, and has the group doing all these cool jams with their instruments – all the animals in the garden of Eden talking to each other (or at least that's what our addled teenaged minds always thought!) Shorter tracks are mighty nice too – a heady, heavy brew of Hammond and fierce guitar from Erik Brann, on cuts all penned by group leader Doug Ingle. Titles include "Termination", "My Mirage", "Flowers & Roses", and "Most Anything You Want". CD

SparkleSparkle ... LP
Jam Sessions/Cultures Of Soul, 1979. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)... $19.99 22.98
A fantastic disco album from the late 70s – obscure, but with a very funky pedigree, and one that includes musical ties to earlier groups The Skullsnaps and Wood Brass & Steel! The instrumentation here is a bit like the latter – well-crafted ensemble funk with a deeper, more jazzy sophistication than you might expect – topped with very soulful vocals from the Sparkle trio, who have a depth that's way stronger than most other female club acts of the time – the sort of range that could have also been singing deep soul a decade before. The instrumentation is wonderfully sharp, and way more than the usual disco or club – and titles include "Let Yourself Go", "You", "Disco Madness", "Dabooza", "The Rock", and "Down The Way" – plus the cool cosmic instrumental "Six Million Steps" by Rahni Harris! VariousButtons – Starter Kit (aka Yellow Pills) ... LP
Numero, Late 70s/Early 80s. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... $16.99 22.98
A reimagined version of the legendary Yellow Pills compilation on Numero – 20 songs from the original compilation, plus two bonus tracks, new liner notes, and lots of cool sleeve scans, photos, and more! Forget everything you know about rock music in the late 70s – all the punk rock and new wave that's been immortalized over the years – and get ready to discover a whole new world of power pop! At the time, the power pop underground was as important to some ears as the artier and angrier work coming out of the east coast and UK – and the power pop world was one that could co-exist a bit more peacefully with mainstream rock, while still offering a great opportunity for bands on various local scenes. The work here has echoes of more famous acts of the time – like The Cars, The Kings, or The Knack – but it's also got a bit more of a home-grown, punk rock edge – one that comes through beautifully in the guitar parts, vocals, and unabashed hooks of the tunes. The set's a follow-up to the original Yellow Pills set by zine publisher Jordan Oakes – and it delves deeper than even that one, with a real focus on work from the end of the 70s, and acts that never had great chart success overall. Titles include "High School" by Tommy Rock, "She's Hi Fi" by The Trend, "There Goes My Heart Again" by The Kids, "Not My Girl Anymore" by The Bats, "All I Want" by The Colors, "Domestic/Imported" by The Toms, "Sunshine USA" by Randy Winburn, "One In A Million" by Luxury, "She's The Girl" by The Tweeds, "Rave It Up" by Colors, and "Hey Little Girl" by The Kids. ✨✧ VariousRetour Au Club Meduse ... CD
Spacetalk (UK), 1980s. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A really cool concept for a compilation – one that returns to a specific mood of music on the French scene – work that's post-punk, a bit electro, and usually a lot better put-together than some of the bigger hits in Paris at the time! This work draws heavily on UK electronic styles of the post-punk years, but also has a warmer quality that ties it more strongly to earlier generations of French music – a wonderful blend of styles that's often augmented by light acoustic instrumentation next to the vocals – all with a vibe that has us imagining that these were the sort of tracks Momus might be listening to when visiting France in his youth. Titles include "Game City" by Jean Claude Watrin, "Gitana Morena" by Lili, "No Vayas Al Sol" by Capco, "Hote Des Savanes (inst)" by Voyage De Charme, "Captain Coke" by Marc Et Frank, "Sexy Cola (Glu Glu version)" by De Dion, "Exit" by Weekend Millionaire, and "Chocolate" by Cecila.
