✨✧ Gang StarrJust To Get A Rep (voc, inst, acapella)/Who's Gonna Take The Weight (voc, inst) ... 12-inch
Chrysalis, 1990. Very Good (pic cover)... $33.99
The first Gang Starr single after they left Wild Pitch, from way back when Guru was still also known as Keith E. E. The original 12-inch version of "Just To Get A Rep" – the version included here – includes a whole extra verse at the end that gives a completely different ending to the song. For some reason, that verse was left off the LP version and the version on "Full Clip." 12-inch, Vinyl record

Debbie HarryKookoo ... LP
Chrysalis, 1981. Very Good+ ... $3.99
A nice change in sound for Debbie Harry – thanks to Chic production from Nile Rodgers and Bernard Edwards – who really help the solo singer find a groove that's quite different than her work in Blondie! The style's a mixture of the funky club that Chic did so well, with elements that lean a bit more towards an early 80s rockish dancefloor – almost with a vibe that echoes some of the UK imports trickling over to these shores at the time, but with a definite New York vibe underneath! The setting gives Harry's vocals a great way to hit a more playful nature – that sound that was creeping in a bit in Blondie, but which some folks thought was wrong for the group – and Chris Stein is still on hand to bring in some street-sensitive riffing guitar. Titles include "Backfired", "Military Rap", "Oasis", "Surrender", "Chrome", "Jump Jump", and "The Jam Was Moving". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the printed inner sleeve. Cover has a cut corner.)

✨✧ Jethro TullBenefit ... LP
Chrysalis, 1970. Used ... Just Sold Out!
An early gem from Jethro Tull – and a set that has the group really reaching forth with some of their more complicated, jazz-based musical impulses – while still holding onto some of the rawer power of the early days too! The album's lesser-known than some of the group's earlier hits – which may well make it even fresher all these many years later – a really stunning set of sounds that showcases the newly lyrical sensibility of Ian Anderson – both vocally and on flute – as well as the searing guitar of Martin Barre, which was really becoming a core element of the group at this point. Titles include "For Michael Collins Jefferey & Me", "Inside", "Play In Time", "Sossity You're A Woman", "With You There To Help Me", and "Nothing To Say". LP, Vinyl record album

Procol HarumProcol's Ninth (3CD set) ... CD
Chrysalis/Esoteric (UK), 1975. New Copy 3CD ... $24.99
A hugely expanded version of this record – with two and a half CD's worth of unreleased material! The core record is quite an unusual moment for Procol Harum – still riding strong here onto their ninth album as a group – but also bringing in the legendary production team of Leiber & Stoller to help sharpen their sound! Yet apart from a few well-placed covers, all the genius of Gary Brooker and the group is firmly intact – organ work is maybe trimmed down a little, but his own vocals and piano are tremendous – as is the overall sense of song structure throughout! Titles include "Fool's Gold", "The Unquiet Zone", "Pandora's Box", "Eight Days A Week", "Without A Doubt", "The Piper's Tune", "I Keep Forgetting", and "Typewriter Torment". CD1 also features the original group recordings – pre-Lieber & Stoller – of most of the tracks. CD2 features Live In The USA – 12 tracks recorded in 1975, at the Capitol Theater in Passaic, New Jersey – and CD3 features Live In The UK – 13 more tracks recorded in 1975 at Leicester University. There's also a huge booklet of notes – and a small poster too. CD

SpecialsSingles (180 gram pressing) ... LP
2 Tone/Chrysalis, Late 70s/Early 80s. New Copy ... $20.99 22.99
Killer singles from The Specials – the groundbreaking group who not only re-introduced a side of Jamaican music to the British scene, but also helped a whole new generation fall in love with the funky 45! The tunes here are all ones that were originally issued on those very cool checkerboard label 45s on the UK 2Tone label – an imprint that had a great sense of style right from the start, and which helped bring a perfect focus to the sharp-edged talents of The Specials! So many other groups tried to copy this vibe in later years – but as these sharp singles will show, there's nobody like the originals – as you'll hear on titles that include "Gangsters", "Friday Night Saturday Morning", "Why", "Rudi A Message To You", "Nite Klub", "Too Much Too Young", "Guns Of Navarone", "Rat Race", "Stereotype", "Ghost Town", "War Crimes", "Racist Friend", and "Free Nelson Mandela". ✨✧ SpecialsSpecials ... LP
2 Tone/Chrysalis, 1980. Near Mint- ... $39.99
One of the most important albums on the mighty 2 Tone label – and part of a huge ska revival on the British scene that would send ripples through modern music for years to come! And sure, the words "ska" and "revival" in the same sentence can often make most folks wince – but The Specials here work at a time long before the mode was reduced to cliche – and during a punk rock period when their contributions were especially vital – presented beautifully here on an album that's also produced by a young Elvis Costello! There's no overdone jams, no schlocky frat boy modes, just hard-edged London ska with a strong nod back to Kingston roots – on titles that include "A Message To You Rudy","Do The Dog", "It's Up To You", "Doesn't Make It Alright", "Concrete Jungle", "Monkey Man", "(Dawning Of A) New Era", "Too Much Too Young", and "Gangsters". Karlheinz StockhausenCeylon/Bird Of Passage ... LP
Chrysalis, 1975. Near Mint- ... $9.99
Despite the fact that this album was released on a label that was mostly dedicated to rock, the record's still a very "out" batch of work by Stockhausen, and one that stands as one of his greatest from the mid 70s. He plays a number of odd instruments here with 2 different small ensembles, and both pieces on the record ("Ceylon" and "Bird Of Passage") are Stockhausen's attempt to recreate the feeling of traditional Singhalese music. The instrumentation is odd, and includes modulated piano, electronium, camel bells, lotus flute, and other odd instruments. The sound is spare and spooky, with a vaguely ethnographic quality. ✨✧ BlondieAutoamerican ... LP
Chrysalis, 1980. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The biggest sounding Blondie album by far – and a radical leap from New York new wave scene band to a wildly ambitious pop pastiche machine! The band always had a fearless way of filtering far-reaching pop sounds into their material, even when they were still on the CBGBs scene, and while their stylistic reach grew with each successive album, Autoamerican really takes it to extremes. It's somewhat notorious for favoring session players over the core band, but given how crazy the stylistic breadth is – no disrespect to that incredible core band – it's a creative win, as much BECAUSE they bit off more than they could chew production wise, as it is despite that. It's most famous (or infamous, depending on who's talking about it) for "Rapture", and other tracks include "Europa", "Live It Up", their classic, breezy cover of "The Tide Is High", "Here's Looking At You", "Faces", "Follow Me" and more. ✨✧ BlondieHunter ... LP
Chrysalis, 1982. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A weird one from Blondie – and with lot more going for it than the reception at the time would suggest! Following up the diverse pop leanings of Autoamerican, in some ways this is the logical next step from there – Debra's voice way out front in the mix, layers of additional preclusion, horns, global pop accents (post "The Tide Is High", that's a given), oddball covers – The last Blondie album of the 80s, even though it was only 1982, and their last as a band until a late 90s reunion – and as such, ignored by some and maligned by others at the time. It's fair enough for serious fans of the first couple LPs to dismiss the pop pastiche of the last couple, but there's some really interesting stuff here – including a title them written for (and rejected by) the Bond film "For Your Eyes Only" that's radically different than the Bill Conti/Sheena Easton song, a cover the Smokey Robinson-penned "The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game", "Danceway", "Orchid Club", "Island Of Lost Souls", "English Boys" and more. Gang Starr at pretty close to peak level here on 1994's Hard To Earn – and rather than continue to ride the waves they made on the previous couple classic albums, Guru sharpens the lyrical tone just a bit – spitting some more incisive rhymes over apporpriately gritty soul jazz beats from Primo. Tracks include the classic "DWYCK" featuring Nice & Smooth – which is just about our favorite Gang Starr track ever, to be honest – plus "Speak Ya Clout" featuring Jeru and Lil Dap, "Mass Appeal", "Code Of The Streets", "Brainstorm", "Tonz O Gunz", "Suckas Need Bodyguards", "Blowin Up The Spot", "Mostly Tha Voice", "F.A.L.A.", "Now You're Mine", "Comin For Datazz", "Aiight Chill...", "The Planet", and more. Procol Harum were one of those groups who continued to sound amazing, even way past their initial hits – as you'll discover here on this wonderful gem from 1974! The album's got everything we love in the group very firmly in place – that strange mix of blues roots and drama, fused with loads of great organ and piano lines, and topped with the always-unique vocals of Gary Brooker – a singer who can make even the simplest lyric sound wonderful, but always without ever overstating his case! The balance is hard to describe in words, but it's perfectly Procol-like throughout – on well-penned, well-produced tracks that include "Beyond The Pale", "Nothing But The Truth", "The Idol", "Thin End Of The Wedge", "New Lamps For Old", "Butterfly Boys", and "As Strong As Sampson". 3CD set features an insane amount of material – the bonus tracks "Drunk Again" and "As Strong As Sampson (alt mix)" – plus an 11 track BBC Radio One concert, recorded at the Hippodrome on March 22, 1974 – and a 13 track "live in studio" set recorded in Dallas on July 5, 1974. Chrysalis/Esoteric (UK), 1973. New Copy CD & DVD ... Out Of Stock
Procol Harum check into the Grand Hotel – and check out with one of their greatest albums ever! The set's got that majestic sound that was the group's strongest point – a strange mix of the very personal vocals of Gary Brooker and the expansive blend of piano, organ, and guitar that the group often sent soaring to the skies – augmented here with some perfect use of strings and chorus – never too heavy, but all fused perfectly with the core energy of the sextet! In fact, it's that sense of compression – of folding everything together so well – that really makes the group so great, and such an important precursor for so many acts that were beginning to blossom in the UK scene, using a similar approach in different ways. Yet it's that Gary Brooker/Keith Reid sense of songwriting that still sets these guys apart from anyone else – as you'll hear on titles that include "Grand Hotel", "Tojours L'Amour", "TV Caesar", "A Souvenir Of London", "Robert's Box", "Fires", "For Liquorice John", and "A Rum Tale". Bonus tracks include "Grand Hotel (without orchestra)", and Dave Ball-era recordings of "Bringing Home The Bacon", "Robert's Box", "Tojours L'Amour", and "Fires". DVD features a fantastic Belgian TV special from November of 1973 – with 9 tracks in all! CD

Astor PiazzollaLibertango ... LP
Trova (Italy), 1974. Near Mint- ... $24.99
One of Astor Piazolla's beautiful expanded tango albums from the 70s – really groundbreaking work that still holds up beautifully today! For the set, Piazolla's usual modern bandoneon tangos are augmented by a set of lush orchestral arrangements that have an excellent romantic feel to them – and the resulting sound is like something that might have been lifted from a great 70s Italian soundtrack – extremely evocative and inventive, with a haunting, other-worldly sound at times. This is the sort of stuff that used to get trashed when 80s fans of his work praised a return to "simpler" forms – but we've got to admit, we dig this stuff a lot more, especially because Astor's strength as an orchestral arranger is so fantastic, and the addition of flutes, electric bass, and organ really open his sound up. The incredible debut of Blondie! Before branching out into 70s NYC club culture informed pop, Blondie was first-and-formost an incredibly cool punk-era rock & roll band, though never really straight-up punkers themselves – filtering a love of 60s girl group vocals and seedier surf rock influences into catchy songs still raucous enough for CBGBs. While the live gig grit is buffed out of in the studio, there's no lack of game-changing greatness here – and titles include "X Offender", "Little Girls Lie", "In The Sun", "In The Flesh", "Rifle Range", "Kung Fu Girls", "The Attack Of The Giant Ants" and more. Sublime Holiday sounds from the legendary John Fahey – one of a few Christmas Records that probably got Fahey a lot more exposure than all the rest of his non-seasonal work combined! The style here is a perfect link between an older folk era and the rising acoustic underground left in its wake – a very personal mode that really served to unlock a whole new sensibility in these tunes – thanks in no small part to John's very edgey work on the strings of the guitar! The music rings out with a surprising sense of joy, but a nice undercurrent of darkness too – and titles include "Christ's Saints Of God Fantasy", "Lo How A Rose E'er Blooming", "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen Fantasy", "Good King Wenceslas", "Auld Lang Syne", and "What Child Is This".
