Chilliwack —
Riding High ... LP Gold Fish (Canada), 1974. Very Good+ ...
$11.99
Vancouver rockers Chilliwack are Riding High indeed on this mid 70s set – with a tighter groove than ever before, with nice, punchy rhythms, biting electric guitar, and big vocals – really a sweet set of uber-tuneful 70s rock that sounds as good to our ears as a heck of a lot of the classic rock radio fodder that's been over (and over and over and over...) played for so many years. They have the hooks and the power of the better remembered rockers of the day, without the staleness and cheesiness of many of the superstars of the era, and a more varied and unpredictable range. Titles include "Come On Over", "Crazy Talk", "Makin Time", "Riding High", "Time Don't Mean A Thing To Ya", "Far Side Of The Sun" (a two part suite) and more. LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light staining along the bottom.)

A mid 70s effort from Vancouver combo Chilliwack – scaling back some of the freewheeling, acoustic & electric rock experimentalism of earlier LPs and focusing on the gritty rock grooves – and do it quite well! Chilliwack could nail a hard grooving, blues based, psyche influenced sound incredibly well – here bring a heavy melodic vibe to tracks such as "Singin The Blues (All Over You)", "Groundhog"., "CS Man", "Hot Wind", "Rock N Roll Music", "Me And You", "Goodnight" and more. The second LP from Vancouver groove rockers and slyly experimental combo Chilliwack – also their second self-titled album, and a mix of southern Americana inflected rock, and more tripped out acoustic psyche folk sounds! Some of the tunes have a pre Big Star catchiness, with some acoustic guitar and drum led parts that really generate a lot of heat, and more with a free wheeling, experimental sensibility with languorous soundscapes, and bits of sax and flute. Titles include groovers like "Lonesome Mary", "Eat", "Rosie", "Ride-Out", "Always", "Changing Wheels", "Night-Morning" and the multi-part, moody and elemental "Music For A Quiet Time". LP, Vinyl record album
Music from The Beau-Marks, Little Caesar And The Consuls, David Clayton-Thomas & The Shays, The Big Town Boys, Ugly Ducklings, The Paupers, Mandala, Kensington Market, Ocean, Chilliwack, Syrinx, and more. CD
(Later CDr pressing.)
