Cheryl LynnCheryl Lynn ... CD
Columbia, 1978. Used ... $5.99
Massive work from the great Cheryl Lynn – and a key bridge between late 70s disco and the newer grooves of the 80s club scene! The album's a mix of midtempo groovers with a few mellower tracks – and it's got a tight, slightly jazzy sound that was very fresh at the time, and which still holds up incredibly well today. The standout cut on the record is the landmark groover "Got To Be Real" – but there's loads of other great ones, like "Star Love", "Daybreak (Storybook Children)", "Give My Love To You", "All My Lovin", and "Come In From The Rain". Cheryl LynnGot To Be Real – The Best Of Cheryl Lynn ... CD
Columbia/Sony, Late 70s/Early 80s. Used ... $3.99
Plenty real soul here – a killer collection of Columbia grooves by Cheryl Lynn – a set that runs right from the clubby start to the more commercial finish of her time at the label! The package is a great illustration of Cheryl's ability to rise to the occasion in just about any setting – and although work is handled by a variety of producers – including Marty Paic, Ray Parker Jr, Barry Blue, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, and even Luther Vandross – Cheryl always comes out on top in the end! Titles include her great vocals on "Georgy Porgy" by Toto, presented here in its disco version – plus Lynn classics "Got To be Real", "Star Love (disco version)", "All My Lovin", "I've Got Just What You Need", "I've Got Faith In You", "Encore (single)", "If This World Were Mine", "It's Gonna Be Right", "Shake It Up Tonight", and "Day After Day". ✨✧ Cheryl LynnFree/Encore (dance version) ... 12-inch
Columbia, 1983. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
2 tracks from Cheryl's Preppie album – a sweet little early 80s groover, with plenty of electro touches! "Free" is awash in heavy bass pedals and keyboard bits – but also features Cheryl's deeply soulful vocals strutting out over the top, creating a nice juxtaposition that's the main strength of the tune! "Encore" is another electrified number, but grooves along with plenty of warm and jazzy touches – keyboards building and swaying under the vocals, which are top-shelf and extremely catchy all the way through! 12-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Cheryl LynnIt's Gonna Be Right (with bonus track) ... CD
Columbia/PTG (Netherlands), 1985. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Cheryl Lynn's punching up her sound a bit here – working with Hubert Eaves, Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, and even some of her own productions – in a style that's got a heavier sort of 80s groove than earlier albums, but still mighty nice – and a great change from the disco of her earlier years! Lynn's vocals, as always, are totally top-shelf – more than bold enough to soar over whatever groove she'd choose – although in this case, the groove is right on the money – definitely as right as the title implies! Titles include "Fade to Black", "Find Somebody New", "Let Me Love You", and "Love's Been Here Before". CD features the bonus track "Fidelity (12" version)". CD

One of our favorite grooves from the classic years of Sugar Hill Records – a killer cut based around Cheryl Lynn's "To Be Real" – with the original groove slamming nicely on the bottom, as Funky 4 Plus 1 trade lines over the top! The track's filled with classic rhymes from the old school – and is one of the few from the time that's never grown old! 12-inch, Vinyl record

VariousJohn Morales – The M&M Mixes Vol 4 – The Ultimate Collection – NYC Classic Underground Anthems & Previously Unreleased Remixes (4CD set) ... CD
BBE (UK), Late 70s/Early 80s. New Copy 4CD ... $34.99 36.99
John Morales has a wonderful talent for taking a funky track and making it sound even funkier – which he does beautifully here in this killer collection of old school tunes! Many of the numbers are vintage clubby soul from the late 70s and early 80s – and Morales has this great way of crystalizing all the best elements in the songs, and pulling them to the forefront – but all without ever ruining the integrity of the tracks that sounded so great in the first place! In other words, the work here isn't the imprint of some young DJ trying to overstate his presence – but a true music maestro who really knows what makes a club track great – a vibe that takes us back to the brilliant edits of the early NYC scene. All titles here are previously unreleased – and the massive 4CD set features titles that include Morales mixes of "I'm Gonna Love You Just A Little More Baby" by Barry White, "You Got Me Running" by Lenny Williams, "Mind On You" by Level 42, "Vertigo/Relight My Fire" by Dan Hartman, "Lovergirl" by Teen Marie, "Standing Right Here" by Mannix, "Love Is The Message" by MFSB, "Let The Music Play" by Barry White, "Don't Leave Me This Way" by Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, "Funkin For Jamaica" by Tom Browne, "All Night" by Katzuma, "Hi Tension" by Hi Tension, "Girl You Need A Change Of Mind" by Eddie Kendricks, "Before I Let Go" by Frankie Beverly, "Got To Be Real" by Cheryl Lynn, "Star Love" by Three Ounces Of Love", "You Stepped Into My Life" by Melba Moore, "Life Is A Song Worth Singing" by Teddy Pendergrass, "Walk Away From Love" by David Ruffin, "Life Goes On" by The Jones Girls, "This Time Baby" by Jackie Moore, "Turn Me Up" by Keith Barrow, "Circles" by Atlantic Starr, "Joy & Pain" by Maze, "Stay" by The Controllers, "Take Me Home" by Cher, and "Can't Live Without Your Love" by Tamiko Jones.
