Cheryl LynnCheryl Lynn (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Columbia/Reel Music, 1978. New Copy ... $7.99 15.98
Massive work from the great Cheryl Lynn – and a key bridge between late 70s disco and the newer grooves of the 80s club scene! The album's a mix of midtempo groovers with a few mellower tracks – and it's got a tight, slightly jazzy sound that was very fresh at the time, and which still holds up incredibly well today – really a cut above most of Cheryl's contemporaries, and most of her later work too! The standout cut on the record is the landmark groover "Got To Be Real" – but there's loads of other great ones, like "Star Love", "Daybreak (Storybook Children)", "Give My Love To You", "All My Lovin", "You Saved My Day", and "Come In From The Rain". Features bonus tracks – "Got To Be Real (7" version – with different vocals)" and "You Saved My Day (12" version)". CD
(CD case has a small cutout hole.)

✨✧ Cheryl LynnPreppie ... LP
Columbia, 1983. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
Hard to believe that a preppie look could ever be associated with a soul singer, but by the time of this 1983, the preppie craze had spread so much that it actually provided Cheryl Lynn a nice way to update her style! There's nothing preppie about the music, though – and the record's a great batch of cuts that show how much Cheryl influenced the soul sound of the early 80s, especially at a time when Columbia was putting out so many strong R&B acts – stepping forth with a tight, mature groove that's totally wonderful – definitely a standard-setting sound that so many other female singers tried to match! Includes the cuts "Encore", "Fool A Fool", "Fix It", "Change The Channel", "Preppie", and "Life's Too Short". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light wear.)

✨✧ Cheryl LynnStart Over ... LP
Manhattan, 1987. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
Cheryl Lynn's definitely starting over here – moving over to the Manhattan label after a long successful run on Columbia – but her sound on the record is still pretty strongly in the same mode, a blend of 80s soul with poppier hooks, done with a fair bit of keyboards and drum machine fills in the instrumentation. The best numbers here are the mellower, gentler ones – which let Cheryl's still-great vocals emerge a bit more from the starker instrumentation – and as a bit of trivia, Amp Fiddler even wrote one of the songs on the record! Titles include "New Dress", "No Curfew", "If You Were Mine", "Don't Bury Me", "Start Over", "Married Man", and "Everyday". LP, Vinyl record album
(Includes the lyric sleeve. Cover has a hype sticker, light wear, and a small stained spot in back.)

✨✧ Cheryl LynnIn Love (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Columbia/FTG, 1979. Used ... Out Of Stock
Cheryl Lynn follows things up nicely from her famous debut – mostly sticking in the same upbeat territory as her earliest club hits – a groove that's perfect for her bold, soaring vocals! The album sports a few mellower cuts, but it's the groovers that really keep things together – great late disco numbers, served up with plenty of class, and just the right sort of lean energy to help Lynn step strongly into the 80s groove generation! Titles include the sweet mellow groover "Don't Let It Fade Away" – plus "Hide It Away", "Feel It", "In Love", "Love Bomb", "I've Got Just What You Need", "Chances", and "I've Got Faith In You". CD features bonus tracks – "In Love (7" version)", "Feel It (7" version)", and "Keep It Hot (special version)". CD

✨✧ Funky 4 Plus 1That's The Joint (voc, inst) ... 12-inch
Sugar Hill, 1980. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
One of our favorite grooves from the classic years of Sugar Hill Records – a killer cut based around Cheryl Lynn's "To Be Real" – with the original groove slamming nicely on the bottom, as Funky 4 Plus 1 trade lines over the top! The track's filled with classic rhymes from the old school – and is one of the few from the time that's never grown old! 12-inch, Vinyl record
(Promo in a Sugar Hill sleeve, with light wear and a cut corner. Labels have a name in pen.)

✨✧ INDInto New Dimensions ... LP
Erect, 1981. Sealed ... Out Of Stock
A sweet bit of 80s groove from Chicago – one of the few albums on the legendary Erect label, all of them great! IND stands for Into New Dimensions – and the group's definitely exploring some fresh territory for the time – an ensemble funk mode that has lots of boogie at the bottom, and which marks the best new sound for indie soul in the post-disco years. Many tracks have a male vocal lead, supported with warmer harmonies – and instrumentation is heavy on bass and keyboards, sometimes with a bit of an electro feel. The album includes the tightly snapping "You Just Be You", with a style that's very much like "To Be Real" by Cheryl Lynn – plus the cuts "Everybody Likes To Do It", "I Just Got To Have You", "Spyrm Of the Moment", and "I Want To Be The One". LP, Vinyl record album
(Sealed original pressing!)

The night time's always the right time – at least when we've got music this great to see us into the small hours of the evening!
