✨✧ Cheap TrickAt Budokan ... LP
Epic, 1978. Near Mint- Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A seminal set from Cheap Trick – a group who had already cut some excellent studio albums before this one, but who somehow finally reached huge fame in the mainstream with this classic concert release! The album is one of the greatest, most iconic live rock records of its era – in which the to that point under-appreciated Cheap Trick (in the US at least – as you can hear the wild screams, they had the love elsewhere) midwestern powerpop progenitors FINALLY broke through and cemented their legend! LP, Vinyl record album
(Original Japanese Epic/Sony pressing, 25 3P-5, includes the booklet!)

✨✧ Cheap TrickOut To Get You – Live 1977 (2020 Record Store Day Release) ... LP
Legacy, 1977. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
A searing live set from Cheap Trick – recorded during that glorious year of 1977, when it seemed like the group were really hitting their peak! The vibe here is different than the Budokan album – in part because the venue is small, the Whisky A Go Go in Hollywood – which makes for a wonderfully intimate take on the sound that would soon fill large arenas! The material has never been issued before – and titles include "Hello There", "Come On Come On", "Oh Candy", "Can't Hold On", "Clock Strikes Ten", "He's A Whore", "Daddy Should Have Stayed In High School", "Ain't That A Shame", "Elo Kiddies", "Cry Cry", "Taxman Mr Thief", and "You're All Talk". ✨✧ New York DollsNew York Dolls ... LP
Mercury, 1973. New Copy (reissue)... Temporarily Out Of Stock
"I need a fix – and a kiiiiiiiiiissssssss!" What can we say? Johnny Thunders, David Johansen and the boys reinvented the wheel with the of wildly hedonist glam skronk spun on this still incredible debut record. Both records they made for Mercury are incredible, but this is the bonafide masterpiece. It's a classic purely on a primal rock 'n' roll level, but it's also one of rock's greatest examples of style equaling substance! The Dolls brought glammer to the gutter and vice versa, and this is no doubt their greatest moment! Includes "Personality Crisis", "Looking For A Kiss", "Trash", "Frankenstein", "Pills", "Bad Girl", "Private World" and "Jet Boy". Produced by Todd Rundgren and engineered by Jack Douglas – the former a legend in his own right, the latter whose name appears on so many great records that range from other proto-punk and punk-era classics (Patti Smith Group, The Runaways) to the trashier side of the mainstream (prime early Cheap Trick, Aerosmith and Alice Cooper). ✨✧ VariousButtons – From Champaign To Chicago ... LP
Numero, 1970s/1980s. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Numero Group does it again – and manages to pull together all the best bits from the crucially overlooked powerpop scene in the Land Of Lincoln – a wealth of wonderful groups from the 70s and 80s, all of whom recorded great indie sounds in Illinois! Sure, you've heard of Cheap Trick, and maybe The Kind – but Illinois was also home to handfuls of other great groups – many of whom never found national fame, due to lack of access to the kind of A&R that groups on the coast were getting. The sound here is wonderful – razor sharp guitars, super-tight drums, and tuneful lyrics that still burst forth with plenty of power – a great reminder that not all the hot energy of the late 70s was going into punk rock. As usual, Numero's overdone themselves with the package – lots of info on the groups, and the kind of stylish package that even goes way beyond most of the original records too. Titles include "At Practice" by Band Jocks, "Get Away" by Julian Leal, "I Wanna Make You" by Prettyboys, "Midnight Girls" by Eyz, "Where Are You Now" by Tom Orsi, "More & More" by Lay Z, "See You Tonight" by Contra-Band, "Kyle" by Loose Lips, "Total Insanity" by The Kind, "So Lifelike" by The Jerks, and "I Have Always Loved You" by Paul. Ugly Things, 2020. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Another great entry in the always-rich musical world of Ugly Things – a publication so jam-packed, it usually takes us five times longer to read than any other music magazine! This time around, the issue features a long interview with Bun E Carlos of Cheap Trick fame – plus a look at Brian Jones' escape from The Rolling Stones to Morocco, and the trippy Northwest band The Magic Fern. There's lots more too – bits on The Velvet Underground, Crimson Shadows, and The Beachers – plus the work of photographer Eric Hayes, and lots more too. Magazine

✨✧ O'JaysSuper Bad (Japanese paper sleeve edition) ... CD
Little Star/P-Vine (Japan), Early 70s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Earlier work by The O'Jays – but issued in a super-pimp cover that has a image of all these hot chicks with guns, standing in a very blacksploitation pose! Clearly, this was an issue that was put on the markets to cash in on the group's early 70s fame on Philly International – but the record contains mostly material from the late 60s early 70s indie years, most issued as singles, with production by Bobby Massey and HB Barnum. The work's actually pretty great, despite the cheap trick of the cover – and the album includes lots of nice numbers like "Little Brother", "Now He's Home", "Gotta Get My Broom Out", "Never Gonna Say Goodbye", and "Peace". United Future OrganizationV ... CD
Exceptional (UK), 2002. Used ... $6.99
Incredible work from United Future Organization – light years ahead of anything else they've ever done! The album shows a tremendous growth in instrumental styles – with more of a preoccupation with the overall shapes and sound of their music, grown here to expansive limits, encompassing a richer array of modes than ever before! Many tracks begin with isolated instrumentation – quite introspective and warm, building slowly without the cheap tricks of some of their more flashy work – confident in a decade's worth of musical exploration, and willing to take the time to craft something completely new out of a lifetime's worth of cultural references. There's plenty of room on the album for guests, too – including Mark Murphy, Nathan Haines, Valerie Etienne, Jeffery Smith, and Sabrina Malheiros – and the overall sound of the album is like nothing you'd ever expect from the group! Titles include "Microcosmo", "World Thing", "Lunar Enfant", "No Problem", "Everyday Routine", "Esperanza", "Suite Espagnole", and "Transworld". CD

✨✧ BlackbyrdsNight Grooves ... CD
Fantasy/BGP (UK), 1978. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A great album of funky dancefloor tunes! Originally issued in 1978, and clearly for the New York dancefloor crowd – the record takes the earlier work of funk group The Blackbyrds, and remixes the tracks slightly to pump up the groove a bit for the dancers. While the approach might not sound good on paper, it actually works wonderfully on the record – as the tunes retain all of the jazz funk feel of the originals, without any of the cheap tricks you might expect! The album's as essential as any of the group's earlier albums – and it's filled with great versions of classics like "Supernatural Feeling", "Gut Level", "Walking In Rhythm", "Do It Fluid", "Rock Creek Park", and "Happy Music".
