✨✧ VariousAll Of This Goes Too – American Soul Music 1955 to 1972 ... LP
Cairo, Late 50s/1960s/Early 70s. New Copy 2LP ... Out Of Stock
A beautiful overview of the early years of American soul music – put together as a set that easily moves between deep soul, northern soul, and some of the other hard-burning modes of the time! The package is a great effort from the folks at Mississippi Records, to kick off their Cairo Records imprint – and is done with the sense of history you'll find in their other reissues – right down to the nice booklet of notes that comes with the album. Titles include "My Heart Is Closed For The Season" by Betty Swann, "I'll Never Love Again" by Cookie Gabriel, "You Killed The Love" by Betty LaVette, "Time" by Chris Kenner, "The Best Of Luck To You" by Earl Gaines, "Enchanted Sea" by The Counts, "It's Raining" by Irma Thomas, "No No I Can't Help You" by Beverly McKay, "Another Day Gone" by Reuben Bell, "I'll Run Your Hurt Away" by Ruby Johnson, "She's Gone" by OV Right, "Easy As Saying 123" by Timmy Willis, "Stop These Teardrops" by Tammy McKnight, and "Try Love" by Dori Grayson. ✨✧ VariousLove You Save – American Soul Music 1955 to 1972 ... LP
Cairo/Mississippi, Late 50s/1960s/Early 70s. New Copy 2LP ... Out Of Stock
A great little set of rare soul music – served up by the Cairo imprint of Mississippi Records – and done with a very similar approach to their other reissues of folk, blues, and world music! The set focuses in on rootsier sounds, especially from the 60s – with lots of deep soul gems from both big names and some more obscure artists – all packaged with a detailed booklet of notes, in the best Mississippi style! The style is almost as if Folkway Records put together their own soul collection, but with work from other labels – and titles include "In My Heart" by Barbara & The Browns, "Tired Of Being Your Fool" by Nelson Sanders, "It's Not That Easy" by Reuben Bell & The Casanovas, "Since You've Been Gone" by The Falcons, "Can't Stay Away (parts 1 & 2)" by Slim & Ann, "Don't Ever Leave Me" by Bob & Earl, "Go Now" by Bessie Banks, "I Keep Forgetting You Don't Love Me No More" by The Thornton Sisters, "Don't Mistreat Me" by The Queenettes, "Let Me Down Easy" by Betta LaVette, "Life Is Too Short" by Benny Spellman, "Lament" by Mamie Perry, "I'm Missing You" by Loretta Williams, and "Everybody Knows" by OV Wright. A beautiful collection of vintage soul music – the latest crowning achievement in the Cairo series from Mississippi Records – and, like the rest, an excellent combination of classics and little known gems from the golden years! The package is as before – 2 LPs in a great cover, complete with a heavy booklet of notes and photos – all to support a selection of cuts that runs strongly towards the deep soul side of the spectrum, with bits of New Orleans soul here and there – and occasional currents of funk! Islam Chipsy & EekKahraman ... LP
100 Copies (Egypt), 2019. New Copy ... $22.99
A really cool concept for a record – one that's unlike anything else we've ever heard, both in its sound and instrumental presentation! The group features two drummers behind the keyboard lines of Islam Chipsy – drums playing together at a pace that's very quick and almost skittish, but held together tightly with a very rhythmic vibe – so that the grooves pulse out fast and intensely, while Chipsy serves up these keyboard lines that move at a slower pace, and which often have slight currents that reflect the Egyptian location of the recording! The whole thing almost feels as if the aliens who built the pyramids came back in the 21st Century – and decided to win back the Cairo scene with their new keyboard and drum-driven grooves. Titles include "El Zantor", "Fast Track", "Zardana", "Saba Zamzam", and "El Daynasour". LP, Vinyl record album

NickodemusSun People Remixed ... CD
ESL, 2009. Used ... $6.99
Sunny remixes of Nickodemus glowingly groovy Sun People album – a boundary free set of tunes on the original album given even further reaching mixes by arhrise Soundsystem, Pimps Of Joytime, Red Astaire, J-Boogie, Hird, Christian Prommer and more! One thing we leave about this set of remixes is that it's respectful of the earth tones of the original tracks – remixed with the guests personal stamps, but reverent of the global funk, samba and more inherent to Nickodemus Sun People tunes. 12 tracks in all: "Sun People" (Earthrise Soundsystem rmx), "Just Move" feat Kwasi (Spy From Cairo rmx), "Didibina" feat Falu (J-Boogie rmx), "Love Feeling" (Christian Prommer rmx), "Sun Children" feat Real Live Show (Red Astaire rollerskate rmx), "Brookarest" (Pimps Of Joytime rmx) and much more. ✨✧ VariousPsych Funk 101 – A Global Psychedelic Curriculum 1968 to 1975 ... CD
World Psychedelic Classics, Late 60s/1970s. Used ... Just Sold Out!
A stunner of a collection of psychedelic funk from all over the world – incredible material with the spiraling atmosphere and free spirit of the psychedelic scene – and the furious sense of groove learned from the funk movement! Psych Funk 101 sets out to be a definitive overview, and makes a heck of strong case for itself as such – with a couple recognizable names (including Mulatu, who simply could not be overlooked, on a compilation with aspirations of serving as a psychedelic funk standard bearer) and more from Istanbul, Athens, Paris, Beirut, Cairo, Paris, Lagos, Moscow and beyond! Pummeling funky drums & percussion, hazy organ drones, middle eastern rhythms & melodies, fuzzy guitars and more – disparate material with relative psychedelic funk atmosphere! 14 tracks in all: "Su Derenin Sulari" by Husnu Ozkartal Orkestrasi, "Respect" by Kukumbas, "Alemiye" by Mulatu Astake feat Belaynesh Wubante, "The Man Who Must Leave" by Kim Sun, "What You Can Do In Your Life" by Petalouda, "Ghabileh-Ye Lily" by Mehr Pooya., "The Feed-Back" by The Group, "Circuito Chiuso" by Armando Sciascia, "Mevlana Boyle Dede" by Metin H Alatli, "Dagon" by Eskaton and more. ✨✧ Nick Ayoub QuintetMontreal Scene ... LP
RCA (Canada), 1964. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A beautiful set from the Canadian scene of the 60s – proof that there were plenty of fresh ideas in jazz up north, if you knew where to look! The group's led by Nick Ayoub on tenor – blowing with a bold sort of imagination, undercut by this lyrical sensibility that really grabs us – kind of a poetic feel underneath the stronger notes of his horn – well-matched in the group by trumpeter Al Penfold, a player we don't know at all, but who really helps shape the spirit of the record. The whole thing's got the sort of crisp, modern vibe you'd expect from the 60s-era Montreal image on the cover – a jazz date that's very much it's own, without a debt to anyone else – filled with fresh original compositions, and a beautiful mix of modal and soulful styles, with perhaps a slight exotic undercurrent at times. The rest of the group features Art Roberts on piano, Michel Donato on bass, and Emile Cisco Normand on drums – and titles include "Report From Cairo", "Two And", "Bib & I", "Montreal West", "Montreal East", "Pillsville", and "Ya Habibi". ✨✧ Sun RaHorizon ... LP
Saturn, 1971/Mid 70s. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
An amazing live date from Sun Ra & The Arkestra – recorded in Cairo in 1971, with a very transcendent sound overall! Ra and the group are clearly inspired to be working in the shadow of the pyramids – and their music sometimes has Eastern overtones, a bit in the manner of Salah Ragab – their associate in Egypt – yet at other times, things get quite outside and noisy too! The keyboards are especially wonderful – as Ray plays "tiger organ" and moog, in addition to conventional piano – adding in the electronics with really spacey tones that really push the limits of the music. And some of the reeds really help shape the sound of the songs too – stark and soulful at key moments, but also forceful in formation at others – played by John Gilmore on tenor, Marshall Allen on flute and alto, Danny Thompson on baritone and flute, Kwame Hadi on trumpet, Danny Davis on flute and alto, Larry Northington on alto, Eloe Omoe on bass clarinet . The group comes together for a tight reading of "Space Is The Place" – and other titles include "3rd Planet", "Horizon", "Starwatchers", and "Shadow World". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Les BaxterJungle Jazz (with bonus tracks) ... LP
Capitol/Captain High (Germany), 1959. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
One of our favorite albums ever from the mighty Les Baxter – and one of the few from his Capitol years that really has a strong jazz component! The approach here is similar to Les' classic African Jazz set – with lots of rootsy percussion at the core, maybe more than usual for Baxter – mixed with larger instrumentation, plus a bit of vibes and other percussion – all topped with the soulful tenor of Plas Johnson, whose sound her really brings the whole thing together! The mix of jungle exotica and tenor is completely sublime – and titles include "Amazon Falls", "Coco", "Isle Of Cuba", "Jungla Brava", "Go Chango", and "Blue Jungle". Also features bonus tracks – "Safari", "Banana Boy", "Jungalero", and "Cairo Bazaar". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ VariousSatan In Love – Rare Finnish Synth-Pop & Disco – 1978 to 1992 ... CD
Svart (Finland), Late 70s/1980s/Early 90s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Obscure grooves from the Finnish scene of the 80s – tracks that do a nice job of bridging the space between earlier Euro disco modes, particularly the work of the Munich scene – and the huge wave of electro pop that was coming out of the UK at the time! In fact, much of the material here really feels like the latter – save for the fact that the language is often different – and the groups do a good job of echoing the sweet electronic modes of groups like Human League, Ultravox, and Heaven 17 – working with plenty of beats and keyboards, but usually in a way that's warm and catchy, and not like some of the colder electro work of the period. And even if you can't understand the language, lots of these tunes are pretty darn catchy – and the vocals maybe come across just like one more instrumental element – adding an extra flavor to the sweet electric modes. Titles include "San Salvador" by Argon, "Satan In Love" by Emilia, "Cairo C" by Digital Dance, "Tatsia" by Stress, "Nyt Tanssitaan" by Jerry, "Help Me" by Syntax, "Kuolleet Pelit" by Belaboris, "Harhaa" by Raya, "Vanha Suola Janottaa" by Tapa Paha Tapa, "Fashion Maailma" by Press, "17 Up" by Mick Hanian, and "Computer Talk" by BB. ✨✧ Ennio MorriconeSlalom – Original Soundtrack (colored vinyl pressing – with bonus tracks) ... LP
Dagored (Italy), 1965. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
A very groovy early soundtrack by Morricone! This one's earlier than many of the reissues we've been stocking – and it's got a groovy sound that's made even groovier by some fab vocal work by I Cantori Moderni, a hip vocalese group that's kind of the Italian version of The Swingle Singers. The group has sung more famously on soundtracks by Armando Trovajoli – but they sound pretty darn great on this one, grooving along wonderfully over some spy-like themes by Morricone – with lots of jazzy changes. The tracklist is structured differently than previous editions, and extends the previous vinyl versions by more than 10 minutes! Titles include "Slalom (Titoli)", "Sestriere", "Una Sera In Albergo", "Un Omicidio Misterioso", "Sperduto A El Cairo I", "Incontro Magico" (Parts I, II & III), "Passeggiata Nella Neve" and more. LP, Vinyl record album
(Limited edition of 500 – on pink vinyl with bonus material!)
