Beverly Glenn-CopelandBeverly Copeland ... LP
CBC/Return To Analog (Canada), 1970. New Copy (reissue)... $16.99
Completely sublime work from Beverly Glenn Copeland – a really unique artist who's almost a genre unto herself – and who sings here in a mix of folk, jazz, and soul – maybe resonant with work at the time by Terry Callier or Nina Simone, but every bit as individual as the best from those two giants too! The performance was recorded by CBC at a key moment in Beverly's career – after a time she'd spent on the scene in Montreal, really soaking up different influences and exploring musical pathways away from her American roots – to a point where she emerges here as a very righteous, yet very personal singer – clearly not immediately interested in chart success, even though she's got the power of a young Roberta Flack. Titles include "Northwind", "Swords Of Gold", "Don't Despair", "Nothing Beautiful", "Song From Beads", "Untitled", "Interval", "Reflections", and "Durocher". LP, Vinyl record album
(Limited numbered edition of 500 copies.)

Barbara GryfeWhat The World Needs Now (180 gram pressing) ... LP
CBC/Majik Bus (UK), 1970. New Copy (reissue)... $12.99 25.99
Sweet jazzy pop from Barbara Gryfe – a singer who not only works here on a rare album for the Canadian Broadcasting System, but who also sings a bit in Hebrew too! The production and presentation have a sweet late 60s style – a bit influenced by the Dionne Warwick/Burt Bacharach material on Scepter, but maybe also with some inspiration from some of the sunnier singers on the LA scene – slight soul currents in the backing, but a very blue-eyed style from Barbara overall. Titles include "People", "I'll Never Fall In Love Again", "Who Am I", "One Child", "Colours Of The Rainbow", "What The World Needs Now", and "If I Were A Rich Girl". LP, Vinyl record album

Judy SinghTime For Love (180 gram pressing) ... LP
CBC/Majik Bus (UK), 1970. New Copy (reissue)... $14.99 25.99
Obscure work from the Canadian scene at the start of the 70s – served up by a singer who's part soul, part jazz – and who delivers a surprising amount of unusual tunes on the album! Judy Singh's got the class and poise of Nancy Wilson, although maybe a slightly more youthful style overall – and she works here with full arrangements, but at a level that still gives her plenty of time in the spotlight – maybe a jazzier extension of uptown soul modes earlier in the 60s. There's a few familiar tunes in the mix, but also some great originals by Canadian songwriters too – and titles include "Samba Del Sol", "Song Under The Sun", "Another Woman", "Forever Waits Beyond", "Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring", "So I'm Wrong Again", and "Up & Down". CBC/Return To Analog (Canada), 1970. New Copy (reissue)... Temporarily Out Of Stock
An obscure acid folk nugget from the Canadian scene – a set that's so rare, the initial pressing of a few hundred copies was only circulated to broadcast stations by Canadian Radio! The quality of the work is far better than its obscurity, though – as these guys have a warm way of mixing acoustic guitars and harmony vocals – sliding tunefully through post-folk territory, somewhere in a space between Simon & Garfunkel and early America – but hipper than both, as there's lots of unusual twists and turns along the way! The group take on tunes by Dylan and Donovan – but most of the songs are their own, which are the best – titles that include "Take Your Time", "Woman For All Seasons", "Lace & Cobwebs", "Hindsight", "Mr Truthful Licks", and "If You Can Wait". LP, Vinyl record album
(Individually numbered limited edition of 500!)
