Brian EllisDeep Clues ... LP
Hobo Camp, 2019. New Copy ... $13.99 22.98
A soulful solo set from Brian Ellis – a keyboardist we know from more jazz-based projects in recent years, but who really soars out here in a warmly sunny mode! Brian handles everything on the album himself – working like some LA maestro from the 70s in a multi-track studio – and while his keyboards are still at the core of the album, there's also lots of vocals – sung in a style that's soul-based, but also with this unusual sort of lightness – so that Brian's words glow nicely alongside his keys! A few of these cuts almost feel like lost 70s demos for the soulful side of the AOR scene – and titles include "Night Drive", "My Favorite Song", "Brand New Love", "Here I Am", "Bulletproof", "Deep Clues", and "Never Had Nothin". LP, Vinyl record album

Birdbone UnlimitedFancy Free/Funky Stuff ... 7-inch
Star Creature, 2019. New Copy ... $8.99 10.99
Brian Ellis's & Tim Tucker's electro space funk duo Birdbone Unlimited soars again! The vocals on "Fancy Free" beckon you to the dance floor, but you'd be there anyway once the rubbery bass grooves, compelling beat, breezy and squealing synths kick in. "Funky Stuff" delivers exactly that on the other side! 7-inch, Vinyl record

✨✧ Brian LynchOmni-American Book Club – My Journey Through Literature & Music ... CD
Hollistic Music Works, 2019. New Copy 2CDs ... Out Of Stock
Brian Lynch has really grown and grown over the years – not just as a musician, although his trumpet work is superb – but also as an arranger and greater visionary force in music, which is definitely the case in this double-length set! Lynch wrote and arranged the whole extended suite – which draws inspiration from the works of WEB DuBois, Ta Nehisi Coates, Albert Murray, Naomi Klein, Ralph Ellison, Amiri Baraka, and other writers who've shaped his understanding of out nation and culture – which is then expressed by Lynch with a great large group that features tenor and soprano from Gary Keller, alto and flute from Tom Kelley, trombone from Dante Luciani, and piano from Alex Brown – plus guest work from Regina Carter on violin, David Liebman on soprano, Jim Snidero and Donald Harrison on alto, and Orlando Maraca Valle on flute. The presence of all those great guests clearly illustrates a strong faith in Lynch's vision – and they all bring their very strong voices to songs that include "Crucible For Crisis", "pPening Up", "Africa My Land", "Woody Shaw", "Tribute To Blue", "The Trouble With Elysium", and "The Struggle Is In Your Name".
