✨✧ Pop GroupY (3CD definitive edition) ... CD
Radarscope/Mute, 1979. Used 3 CD ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A seminal punk-funk classic from the end of the 70s – one that's as brilliantly abrasive and brashly fresh today as it was when it was released! The group are working here in equal parts dub, funk, and lots of scratchy guitars and heady bass – with a style that would later be picked up more strongly by On-U in the 80s, but which is executed here with a much clearer vision that's free of any of the cliches that would later overcome the genre. Even the politics are surprisingly pointed – and Paul Stewart's vocalizations of most of the tunes is really dead on the money! Titles include "Thief Of Fire", "Snowgirl", "Blood Money", "We Are Time", "Don't Sell Your Dreams", "Words Disobey Me", and "Don't Call Me Pain". CD2 features lots of bonus tracks – some from an unreleased album – including "She Is Beyond Good & Evil", "Kiss The Book", "Thief Of Fire (bass addict)", "Words Disobey Me (Dennis the Menace mix)", "Don't Sell Your Dreams (a mix)", "3:38", "Boys From Brazil (ridge reels)", and "Blood Money (slow thief)". CD3 is Y Live – an unreleased live set with 9 more tracks! CD

✨✧ Golden BoysAlguem Na Multidao ... LP
Odeon (Brazil), 1966. Very Good- ... Out Of Stock
Groovy 60s work from The Golden Boys – done in a male quartet mode that's clearly influenced by American and British pop of the time! Tunes include a few great Beatles covers that are worth the price of the album alone – "I Need You" and "Yesterday" – alongside lesser-known Brazilian pop tunes that echo out with a similar use of jangly guitars, straightforward rhythms, and the group's well-crafted harmony vocals on the top. The record's a great example of 60s Jovem Guarda at its best, and goes way past simple pop – with titles that include "Ontem", "Te Adoro", "Se Eu Fosse Voce", "Michelle", "O Bobo", "Alguem Na Multidao", "Magoa", "Vai Procurar Alguem", and "Voce Me Paga". ✨✧ Marcos Valle, Taiguara, & OthersIII Festival Internacional Da Cancao Popular Vol 3 ... LP
Odeon (Brazil), 1968. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A groundbreaking moment in Brazilian pop culture! The 3rd International Festival of Song in Rio was fraught with controversy – Brazilian music was at a crossroads, and the new experiments of some of the younger groups didn't really sit well with the more conservative audiences in the country (or the newly repressive government.) This 3rd volume features artists who recorded for Odeon – and includes a rare version of "Dia De Vitoria" sung by Marcos Valle with Golden Boys, and arrangements from Eumir Deodato – plus the tracks "Dois Dias" by Dori Caymmi, "Meu Sonho Antigo" and "Negroide" by Taiguara, "Tempo De Partir" by Clara Nunes, "Pra Nao Dizer Que Nao Falei Das Flores" by Vocalistas Modernos, "Mare Morta" by Mary Lauria, "Plenilunio" by Luiza, and "Sonho" by Maria. (In the original plastic sleeve, which is nice.)

✨✧ Zimbo TrioTributo A Tom Jobim Vol 1 ... LP
Clam (Brazil), 1988. Near Mint- ... Out Of Stock
A later album by the Zimbo boys, but which still has the Trio playing in their classic bossa style, and in a tribute to Jobim that's got them doing some of his best compositions, like "Wave", "Garota de Ipanema", "So Danco Samba", "Felicidade", and "Chega De Saudade". The sound is still acoustic – although the production's sweetened things up a bit – and the band hasn't lost any of their bossa flair over the years! LP, Vinyl record album

Also, the scrapbook of Black punk legend Neon Leon, a Clancy Eccles tribute, hundreds of novelty celebrity records profiled, and a history of Diabolik. ✨✧ VariousVerve Remixed 3 ... CD
Verve, 1960s/2005. Used ... Out Of Stock
The 3rd volume in the Verve Remixed series – a now-legendary approach to older jazz, and one that's set a whole new standard for the remix scene! As with previous volumes, this one takes a dip in the Universal back catalog – working with older tunes from the Verve, Mercury, and Philips labels – and bringing them nicely up to date with a variety of dancefloor touches. The groove here feels a bit more open than some of the previous volumes – not as much in the Starbucks-torchy mode, and handled with an ear for groovier and farther-reaching sounds. There's still plenty of singers on the set, but the overall sound seems to allow the remixers to get a bit of their own voice into the tunes a bit more. 13 tracks in all – and titles include "Little Girl Blue (Postal Service rmx)" by Nina Simone, "Come Dance With Me (Sugardaddy rmx)" by Shirley Horn, "Speak Low (Bent rmx)" by Billie Holiday, "Sing Sing Sing (RSL rmx)" by Anita O'Day, "Yesterdays (Junior Boys rmx)" by Billie Holiday, "Stay Loose (Lyrics Born rmx)" by Jimmy Smith, "Peter Gunn (Max Sedgley rmx)" by Sarah Vaughan, "Gentle Rain (RJD2 rmx)" by Astrud Gilberto, and "Just One Of Those Things (Brazilian Girls rmx)" by Blossom Dearie.
