Mars BonfireFaster Than The Speed Of Life ... LP
Columbia, 1969. Near Mint- ... $14.99
Once a legendary member of the group Steppenwolf, and later an in-demand session guitarist in the 70s! This 1968 set captures Mars right at the crossroads – and while the album's certainly got some of the full, fierce guitar we love in Steppenwolf (including some of those great dipping-low lines that were the group's early trademark) – it's also got some grittier edges that belie Mars' role in the late 60s Sunset Strip scene, and his sometimes association with Kim Fowley. There's almost a bit of Fowley growl and grit on the best numbers here – and a similarly messed-up approach to rock and roll that has Mars nicely falling apart a bit, at a time when others were getting a bit more tightened up. Tracks include "Lady Moon Walker", "Sad Eyes", "Faster Than The Speed Of Life", "She", "Ride With Me Bobby", and "In Christina's Arms". LP, Vinyl record album
(360 Sound stereo pressing. Cover has ring and edge wear.)

GrapefruitAround Grapefruit ... LP
Dunhill/Bonfire (Italy), 1968. New Copy (reissue)... $29.99 32.99
Incredible pop psych sounds from Grapefruit – a group who might be best known for their early inclusion in the Beatles' Apple Corps – but who can easily stand on their own with the strength of material like this! The production is superb, and the overall vision in the music is sublime – trippy touches, but never too many – and vocals that echo out with both a sense of harmony in the group, and some beautiful larger touches in the studio! The whole thing's got a subtle power that we'd rank right up there with The Zombies, just as they were starting to get great! LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Veronique ChalotJ'Ai Vu Le Loup (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Materiali Sonori/Bonfire (Italy), 1978. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Veronique Chalot sings in French, but she cut this beautiful album for the Materiali Sonori label in Italy – with a really groundbreaking mix of styles that definitely loves up to the other gems we love on the label at the time! As you might guess from the cover, Veronique plays dulcimer, and sings in a dreamy style that befits her image on the front – but the small group behind her also brings in all sorts of other unusual instrumentation – flutes, percussion, bass, and violin – used in these eerie ways alongside Chalot's moody vocals – creating a vibe that's somewhere between early solo work by Nico, and the soundtrack to Wicker Man! A really haunting record throughout – a lot like the best experiments on the Saravah label – with titles that include "L'Empoisonneusse", "Chant De La Montagne", "Le Souliers De La Belle", "Danse Des Sorcieres", "Chant De La Mer", "An Dro-Ronde", and "Bourree". ✨✧ Joel VandroogenbroeckImages Of Flute In Nature ... LP
Cenacolo/Bonfire (Italy), 1978. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Images of flute, and some mighty cool keyboards too – a sweet sound library set that mixes the reed work of Joel Vandroogenbroeck with electric touches that create a killer sound that's not unlike some of the 70s soundtrack material by Sven Libaek! Joel's lead lines have the expressive feel of a jazz player, but they're mixed with these dreamy keys that stretch out in very cool ways – often a bit watery or organic, but never in any sort of a new agey mode! Instead, the record's almost like some of the best Chris Hinze work from a few years before – or, even better, the sort of thing you always hope for from Chris Hinze, but never seem to hear this well. Carole Muriel serves up some cool wordless vocals on a few numbers – and titles include "Hobbits", "Electronic Jungle", "Plaine Du Jura", "Magic Adventure", and "Magnetic Blues". ✨✧ Matt BerryKill The Wolf (10th anniversary edition – with bonus tracks) ... LP
Acid Jazz (UK), 2013. New Copy 2LP ... Out Of Stock
A pivotal record in the career of the great Matt Berry – a set that firmly established him as a musical act away from his work on the screen – not his first album, but one that really seems to have Berry finding his very unique voice! A number of the tunes have a slight nod to spookiness – an element that maybe prefaces Berry's role in What We Do In The Shadows – and the instrumentation has more Wicker Man-like elements at times than some of the mod-styled backings on other of Matt's records – although you can definitely hear his love of vintage keyboards on the album too. Tracks include "Vintage Dance", "Farewell Summer Sun", "Bonfire", "The Signs", "Solstice", "Wolf Quartet", "Fallen Angel", and "October Sun". This edition features all sorts of great tracks recorded at the original sessions – almost doubling the size of the record with cuts that include "Fire Chant", "Food Chain Blues", "October", "Sea Chant", "Honky Knock", "Venison Sketch", "The Dawn", and "To The Floor". ✨✧ Kim Fowley & OthersOne Man's Garbage – Lost Treasures From The Vaults 1959 to 1969 Vol 1 ... LP
Norton, 1960s. Near Mint- Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
A decade of Kim Fowley produced, arranged and recorded madness – proto garage, sleazy surf styled rumbles, pulpy vocal pop, and fuzzy tunes galore – some credited to Kim Fowley and more savage tunes from Bruce & Jerry, Renegades, Mo And Jo, Blue Bells, Althea And The Memories and more! It's fantastic stuff, some never before issued, and rare singles for labels and imprints like Kimco, Alsand, Arwin and American International. Seedy rockers galore! Includes "I Saw Her First" by Bruce & Jerry (Bruce Johnson, later Beach Boy), "Late Late Show" by Patterns, "Big Fat Alaskan" by Donnie And The Outcasts, "The Rebel" by Players, "Daybreaker" by Kim And The Skippers, "Music Is The Magic" by Kim Fowley, "Surf Pigs" by Kim Fowley And Mars Bonfire and more. 16 tracks in all.
