✨✧ Blood Sweat & TearsOwl & The Pussycat ... LP
Columbia, Early 70s. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A great soundtrack for a really stupid movie – featuring an amazing theme song! The soundtrack features some incredibly subdued work from Blood Sweat & Tears – playing in a laidback and jazzy mode that's like the best of Quincy Jones or Dave Grusin electric soundtrack of the time! The album also features some dialogue that comes in and out of the mix – which you can overlook – but the film's theme is more than enough reason to grab this one! (And by the way, you may know the tune from its redone version – as "Pussycat" by Black Sugar, from their first album.) LP, Vinyl record album
(Original pressing. Cover has light wear.)

✨✧ Blood Sweat & TearsBlood Sweat & Tears ... CD
Columbia, 1968. Used ... Out Of Stock
A stone classic from Blood Sweat & Tears – and a record that went onto have a tremendous impact in jazz, rock, funk, and soul! The group's format is plenty darn famous – adding a lot of horns to hip riffing grooves – but despite countless plays on oldies stations over the years, this initial album still has a power that's undeniable – a way of putting the whole thing together that really uses the best elements of the late 60s studio – handled with sweet production from James William Guerico that rivals his best work for Chicago! Even the lead vocals by David Clayton Thomas hold up nicely – and the set includes the classics "Variations On A Theme By Eric Satie", "And When I Die", "Smiling Phases", "More & More", "Spinning Wheel", and "You've Made Me So Very Happy". ✨✧ Blood Sweat & TearsChild Is Father To The Man (Gold CD with bonus tracks) ... CD
Columbia, 1968. Used ... Out Of Stock
A wild debut from Blood Sweat & Tears – one of those records that forever changed the face of popular music! The set's noteworthy not just for early vocals from Al Kooper – who was a key part of the group at their start – but also for key production work from a young John Simon – who helped arrange a bit, threw in a few musical touches, and really gave the group some focus on record – of the sort that would continue over the course of man albums. The set's got some added strings at points, and there's even some backup vocals from the duo of Valerie Simpson and Melba Moore. Titles include "Overture", "I Can't Quit Her", "Just One Smile", "Without Her", "My Days Are Numbered", "Morning Glory", and "So Much Love/Underture". CD adds six unissued demo recordings. CD
(Limited edition Gold CD pressing – part of the MasterSound series. Includes slipcase!)

ChaseEnnea ... LP
Epic, 1972. Very Good+ Gatefold ... Just Sold Out!
A jazz rock classic that still sounds pretty darn tasty today – forged on the heels of Chicago and Blood Sweat & Tears, but with a sound that's leaner and meaner! The group's led by trumpeter Bill Chase – hence their name – and features lead vocals by GG Shinn and Terry Richards, both in a style that's got the same blue-eyed jazz soul overtones as that used by the groups mentioned above. The real strength of the tracks, though, is their jazzy backings – horn-heavy, as you'd expect, and hitting some great riffs and licks on the album's side-long title "suite", which features many instrumental passages. Titles include "Hades", "Aphrodite (parts 1 & 2)", "Zeus", "Poseidon", "Cronus", "It Won't Be Long", "I Can Feel It", and "Night". LP, Vinyl record album
(Yellow label stereo pressing. Cover has light wear.)

✨✧ LighthouseLighthouse (LP sleeve edition) ... CD
RCA/Beatball (Korea), 1969. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
The first record by Lighthouse – a strange band that's always incredibly hard to peg, but who have a sound that we always end up liking a lot! The group mix together folk rock styles with a touch of soul and funk – going for some nice grooves that build up from lots of drum work and airy vocal production, touched here by lots of horns, in a style that's a bit like Blood Sweat & Tears, but a lot lot cooler! This first album is something of a landmark in the jazz/rock vein – and titles include "Never Say Goodbye", "Follow The Stars", "Mountain Man", "Whatever Forever", "Marsha Marsha", and a great cover of "Eight Miles High". CD
(It's hard to tell from the image, but Beatball packaged it all in a really nice sleeve with a glossy silver metalic finish!)

Epic, 1974. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Despite the Native American theme of the title, the group, and the cover image, the set is mostly a pretty straight mix of soul and rock, mid 70s crossover material with a flanged-out LA kind of appeal. Titles include "Interstate Highway 101", "Blood Sweat & Tears", "Cookin With D'Redbone", "One More Time", "Suzy Girl", "Only You & Rock & Roll", "Moon When Four Eclipse", and "Beautiful Illusions". LP, Vinyl record album
(Orange label pressing. Cover has light wear.)

✨✧ ChaseChase/Ennea/Pure Music (UK pressing) ... CD
Epic/BGO (UK), 1971/1972/1974. Used 2CD ... Out Of Stock
A trio of albums from Chase – one of the hippest jazz rock combos of the 70s! The self-titled Chase album first burned onto the market in 1971 – and it's a great distillation of a groove that was bubbling around in various other segments at the time – some of the tighter big band rhythms of the late 60s, as you might find in the work of Maynard Ferguson or Woody Herman – mixed with the hipper rhythms from the rockish underground, particularly in the work of Blood Sweat & Tears or Chicago. Chase is a fair bit jazzier than both of those groups – as they often put the horns more upfront than the vocals – although most numbers do have some sort of vocals as well. Instrumentation is heavy on trumpets – which come together in blasting, blaring groove, even despite the smaller size of the combo – and Phil Porter lays down some great keyboard lines that really help some of the best tracks cook nicely. Titles include "Handbags & Gladrags", "Livin In Heat", "Open Up Wide", "Hello Groceries", "Boys & Girls Together", and "Invitation To A River". Ennea is a jazz rock classic that still sounds pretty darn tasty today – forged on the heels of Chicago and Blood Sweat & Tears, but with a sound that's leaner and meaner! The group's led by trumpeter Bill Chase – hence their name – and features lead vocals by GG Shinn and Terry Richards, both in a style that's got the same blue-eyed jazz soul overtones as that used by the groups mentioned above. Titles include "Hades", "Aphrodite (parts 1 & 2)", "Zeus", "Poseidon", "Cronus", "It Won't Be Long", "I Can Feel It", and "Night". Pure Music is the third album from the mighty Chase – and proof that the group was still going strong even after their groundbreaking debut! The grooves here are almost tighter than before – a bit more complicated instrumentally, with some of the trumpets backed off a bit, to leave more room for great lines on guitar and keyboards. There's still some vocals on the record, but they seem a bit more on the backburner than before – and titles include "Close Up Tight", "Twinkles", "Weird Song #1", "Run Back To Mama", and "Bochawa". Who are these guys? They're actually pretty great – a jazz rock group with some nice soulful influences, sounding better than you'd expect for such an ensemble. Tracks have a sound that's somewhere in the Blood Sweat & Tears/Chicago vein – but lighter, with more of a west coast jazzy finish. Titles include "Suite Delirium", "Brand New World", "On With The Show", "Lady", and "The Grosso". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ James William GuercioElectra Glide In Blue ... LP
United Artists, 1973. Near Mint- Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
An amazing little soundtrack from James William Guercio – music composed for his only cinematic effort as a director – for a film that features Robert Blake as a Native American cop! The score is heavy on jazzy horns with an undercurrent of funk – very similar to Guercio's best modes working with the group Chicago in the early days, and his productions for Blood Sweat & Tears! The depth of the music is quite a surprise – as we never new that James had this ability on his own – and it's recorded with that crystal clear quality that made him a revolutionary talent in the studio, too. Some numbers have a tight cop show sort of funk, while others have an expansive sound that's a nice contrast – and in addition to instrumental tunes "Free From The Devil", "The Chase", "Prelude", "Monument Valley", "Overture", and "Jolene's Dance" – the set also features "Most Of All" by The Marcels, "Meadow Mountain Top" by Mark Spoelstra, and "Tell Me" by Terry Keith of Chicago.
