✨✧ Project PatGhetty Green (blue & green vinyl pressing) ... LP
Loud/Get On Down, 1999. New Copy 2LP Gatefold (reissue)... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A Memphis hip hop classic – the debut of Project Pat, and a set that was supposedly partially written behind bars! Pat's in sharp form here – and working with a really sinister sound on the bottom end – that shift from bouncy Miami bass to some of the darker, fatter styles that were really giving the southern scene an edge by the end of the 90s – perfect for Pat's lyrics about trying to pursue the almighty dollar on the contemporary scene! Features include work from NORE, Crucial Conflict, Tear Da Club Up Thugs, Gangsta Boo, and Hypnotize Camp Possee – on titles that include "Bailers", "You Know The Biss", "North Memphis", "Sucks On Dick", "528 Clash", "Rinky Dink/Whatever Ho", and "Up There". Bande GamboaHorizonte – Revamping Rare Gems From Guinea Bissau & Cabo Verde ... LP
Heavenly Sweetness (France), 2020. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... $28.99 32.99
A really fantastic idea for a project – and one that comes off even better than we would have guessed – new versions of classic grooves from the nations of Cabo Verde and Guinea Bissau, performed by a really well-matched group of singers and musicians, in a mode that's quite different than the usual revival record of this nature! The songs are definitely classics, but the presentation is very contemporary – directed by producer Guts, and Francisco Sousa, with a special ear for avoiding the sorts of cliches that both mar a project like this, and some of the stereotypes that get reinforced by reissues on the market. Instead, there's a fresh criss-crossing of cultures, but one that never waters down the roots at all – maybe a bit like some of the best Parisian productions of the 70s and 80s post-colonial years. Titles include "Dunia Be Tene", "Riba Bass Di Mi", "Citi Ku Liti", "No Guinea", "Mulato Ferrera", "Segunda", and "Di Mas". LP, Vinyl record album

Jo BissoLove Somebody ... CD
Marlin/Ultra Vybe (Japan), 1977. New Copy ... $7.99 15.99
Disco grooves, but with a definite difference – given that Jo Bisso had previously worked on the Parisian club scene, and brings a special flourish to this American album from the late 70s! Jo sings lead vocals on the side-long "Love Somebody" – a tune that builds strongly as Bisso gets answered by a trio of lovely ladies who really brighten up the sound – and who then seem to take over even more on the flipside working with singer Claudia Ferrari. This second side is even better than the first – as things get a bit more spare and stripped-down – snaking out on the smooth stepper "Your Love", getting some funky moogy touches on the P&P-like "Let's Keep It Together", and warming up on the mellow disco number "Thank You Baby". Special bonus – CD features a fifth track – not titled or credited at all! CD

VariousOriginal Sound Of Burkina Faso ... CD
Mr Bongo (UK), 1970s/Early 80s. New Copy ... $9.99 11.98
Fantastic sounds from the glory days of the Burkina Faso scene – a time when the country's place at the crossroads of West Africa was helping to create some really amazing music! There's no set style here that defines the groove – as some tracks seem to flow from Nigerian funk, while others have echoes of Mali, and still others might show an influence from the North African changes of the period – but all with an ear towards the kinds of sounds that might burst out from the landlocked nation, and try to catch fire on the wider global market of the time. As you might guess from the Mr Bongo presentation of the music, there's a fair bit of funk in the mix – some heavy basslines or drums on about half of the tunes, mixed with lighter local instrumentation on some of the others – criss-crossing throughout in a really great way! Titles include "Boy Cuinsinier" by Pierre Sandouidi, "Jeunesse Willia" by Cisse Abdoulaye, "Kombisse" by Bozambo, "A Son Magni" by Cisse Abdoulaye and Super Volta, "M'Ba Lale" by Nabolle John Oumar, "Whisky Et Coca Cola" by Amadou Balake, "De Nwolo" by Coulibaly Tidiane and Dafra Star, "Djanfa Magni" by Youssouf Diarra Dit El Grand Ballake, and "Pop Konde" by Mangue Konde Et L'Orchestre Les 5 Consuls. ✨✧ Maynard FergusonLive From San Francisco ... CD
Avenue, 1983. Used ... Out Of Stock
Maynard Ferguson live – and still holding onto all the great sort of grooves he cooked up in the studio during the 70s! The performance is from a 1984 appearance at San Francisco's Great American Music Hall – and Maynard's got the group in super-tight, super-soulful formation – with a very strong focus on the rhythms at the bottom, but plenty of room for spirited solos over the top – including work by Ferguson on trumpet, Tim Reis on soprano and alto, Steve Wiest on trombone, and Gregg Bissonette on drums. Titles include "Coconut Champagne", "Fireshaker", "Ganesha", "Bebop Buffet", and "South 21st Shuffle". CD

✨✧ VariousStraight From The Decks 2 – Guts Finest Selection From His Famous DJ Sets (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Heavenly Sweetness (France), 2021. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
A sweet set of grooves from around the globe – all the sorts of tracks that Guts plays in his legendary DJ sets overseas – music that's got a much more far-reaching vibe than some of the tracks he issues under his own name! Overall, the set's very much in the best spirit of the Heavenly Sweetness label – especially in the way that company brings together music from so many different times and scenes around the planet – music that's taken even further here in the rich array of tunes that Guts serves up! A number of tracks are contemporary, but there's definitely some classic global flavors going on too – and titles include "Saude" by Pupulies & Rebecca, "Aye" by Ngalah Oreyo", "Canette (Bosq rmx)" by Pat Kalla & Le Super Mojo, "Utammada" by Ismail & Sixu Toure, "Nzambi/Muadiakime" by Alcione, "Aye" by Ngalah Oreyo, "Pe Di Bissilon (Dam Swindle rmx)" by Bande Gamboa, "Mi Moin Mi Ou" by Jobby Valente, "Cumbia De Sal Y Azucar" by Chucho Pinto Y Sus Kassino, "Limye" by Violaaa, and "Yamona (Dam Swindle rmx)" by Pat Thomas & Kwashibu Area Band.
