Clark TerryDuke With A Difference ... CD
Riverside/OJC, 1957. Used ... $9.99
Hmmm . . . Don't know what the "difference" is here, given that the set was one of a number of Duke-inspired sessions of the late 50s, but given that Terry was a big force in the best ones, and that he's working here with some of Duke's best players, we'll give the set a thumbs up! The album features Terry in lead on trumpet, plus alto by Johnny Hodges, tenor by Paul Gonsalves, piano by Billy Strayhorn, vibes by Tyree Glenn, and trombone by Quentin Jackson – and arrangements are by either Mercer Ellington or Terry. Marian Bruce sings lead vocals on "In A Sentimental Mood", and the other, instrumental, tunes include "Cottontail", "Just Squeeze Me", "Mood Indigo", and "Come Sunday". CD
(Out of print.)
