Billy Preston & SyreetaBilly Preston & Syreeta (with bonus tracks) ... CD
Motown/Soulmusic.com (UK), 1981. New Copy ... $12.99
A nice little follow-up to Billy Preston & Syreeta's work on the Fast Break soundtrack – and a record that's one of the few key sides to carry the older Motown duet soul mode firmly into the 80s! There's a great sense of balance here – one that uses Syreeta's sweeter vocal approach to lift up Billy's sometimes rougher sound. And arrangements and production by Ollie Brown ensure that the whole album's got a nice modern feel overall – a style that's got elements of boogie running through most of the numbers, but still with enough room for some of the mellower tracks that make the most of the duet setting. Titles include "Just For You", "Searchin", "Someone Special", "Love", "One More Try", "Hey You", and "A New Way To Say I Love You". CD features lots of bonus tracks too – including "With You I'm Born Again (7" single)", "With You I'm Born Again (inst)", "Go For It (12" single)", "It Will Come In Time (7" single)", "Please Stay (7" single)", and "One More Time For Love (7" single)". ✨✧ SyreetaSyreeta (1980) ... LP
Tamla, 1980. Sealed ... Out Of Stock
One of Syreeta's deepest albums ever – proud, bold, and wonderfully righteous throughout – filled with a sense of message and purpose that was quite rare for Motown at the start of the 80s! Syreeta's really tapped back into that wonderful energy that made her so great when first working with Stevie Wonder – a warm, jazzy glow that suits her unique vocals perfectly – and which is shaped to perfection here by producers Richard Perry, Hal Davis, and Jerry Peters! The album's got a few funky groovers that are definitely Motown circa 1980, but its best moments are the mellower ones – which hit a Minnie Riperton-like quality that's mighty nice. Sheree Brown sings with Syreeta on a few cuts – and titles include "Blame It On The Sun", "Let Me Be The One", "Love Fire", "Here's My Love", and "You Bring Out The Love In Me" – plus "Please Stay" and "One More Time For Love", both duets with Billy Preston. VariousMotown Disco Party Pac (4 x 12" singles) ... LP
Motown, 1979. Sealed 4 x 12" Box Set ... $19.99
A great little package of clubby soul from Motown – four 12" singles in a box! Though the label wasn't particularly known as a home to disco, they weren't allergic to it either, and fielded their share of nice club friendly tracks throughout the late 70s, and even on through the 80s, though this set features some great highlights from 1978 and 1979. Five tracks are spread out across four 12" singles, with a handful of instrumental flip sides, too, and the numbers include both the vocal and instrumental takes of Rick James' "Bustin' Out", vocal and instrumental takes of High Inergy's "Shoulda Gone Dancin'", vocal and instrumental takes of Billy Preston & Syreeta's "Go For It", and "I Just Keep Thinking About You Baby" and "Get Up For Love" by Tata Vega. LP, Vinyl record album
(Sealed original pressing! Cover has a cutout mark in one corner – and another has some light wear, where the shrink is partly open for a bit.)

✨✧ VariousMotown Disco – Selected By Muro & T-Groove ... CD
Motown (Japan), 1970s/Early 80s. New Copy 2 CDs ... Out Of Stock
A fantastic look at the funkier side of Motown in the 70s – and a collection that's not just straight disco, thanks to the mighty selection talents of DJ Muro and T-Groove! Muro handles all of CD1 – and mixes in some excellent soundtrack numbers with more familiar soul tracks – and also presents a few classic cuts in remixed versions too! T-Groove is on CD2 – which has cuts that are maybe a bit more iconic in the Motown club sound of the 70s, but still pretty darn great when heard together in this set. Neither CD appears to be mixed – tracks all appear discrete and standalone – and the package features 37 titles that include "You Made Your Bed" by Reuben Howell, "Books & Basketball" by David Shire & James Di Pasquale, "T Plays It Cool (unedited version)" by Marvin Gaye, "Erucu" by Jermaine Jackson, "Mirrors Of My Mind" by Jackson 5, "Date With The Rain (DJ Spinna refreak)" by Eddie Kendricks, "Ego" by Ozone, "Big Time (M+M big time 2016 mix)" by Rick James, "Treat Her Like A Lady" by The Temptations, "Brothers Gonna Work It Out (Joey Negro return of the mac mix)" by Willie Hutch, "He's A Friend" by Eddie Kendricks, "Down To Love Town" by The Originals, "Go For It" by Billy Preston & Syreeta, "Full Speed Ahead" by Tata Vega, "Let's Be Young Tonight" by Jermaine Jackson, "Heaven Must Have Sent You" by Bonnie Pointer, "Shoulda Gone Dancin" by High Energy, "Saturday Night Sunday Morning" by Thelma Houston, "Star Love" by Three Ounces Of Love, "Tailgate" by 21st Creation, "Scratchin" by Magic Disco Machine, "Standing On The Verge" by Platinum Hook, and "I Need Your Lovin (M+M lovin all night long mix)" by Teena Marie.
