✨✧ Eric BenetDay In The Life ... LP
Warner, 1999. New Copy 2LP Gatefold (reissue)... Out Of Stock
A great mellow groove from Eric Benet – warm, easygoing, and a great showcase for his completely seductive vocals! The set's definitely a mainstream R&B album, but it also really reflects some of the more personal touches the neo soul underground was bringing to the scene – as Benet's got this vibe that would work equally well even if he were spinning out these tunes in a home studio – but which sounds even better here with the top shelf production! The set's worth it alone for his remake of "Georgy Porgy" with Faith Evans, and Meshell Ndegeocello guests on "Ghetto Girl", Roy Ayers shows up on "When You Think Of Me", and other tracks include "Lamentation", Love Of My Own", "Dust In the Wind", "Loving Your Best Friend", "Spend My Life With You", and "Something Real". ✨✧ George DukeDuke (CD & DVD) ... CD
BPM, 2005. Used CD/DVD ... Out Of Stock
A recent album from the legendary George Duke, and a great one too – put together with a sense of soul and sound that really recalls some of Duke's best work of the late 70s! The album's got a wonderful balance between electric and acoustic elements – especially at points when George puts the keyboards aside, and steps out on acoustic piano – creating lines that ring out proudly amidst the warm backdrops of the group. George also handles some Fender Rhodes on the record, with a very old school vibe – and in addition to his own lead vocals, the set also features backups from Eric Benet, Howard Hewett, Jim Gilstrap, and Rachelle Ferrell. Titles include a sweet remake of "Superwoman", plus "No One", "T-jam", "Sausalito", "Saturday Night", "Hybrids", "Homeland", and "Trust". DVD contains excerpts from the Live In Tokyo 1983 DVD. CD
(Digipak has some wear.)

Flip NunezMy Own Time And Space ... LP
Catalyst/Trading Places, 1976. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)... $25.99 34.99
A warm set of groovers from Flip Nunez – a San Francisco-based pianist with a great Latin tinge, working here in a fantastic setting that makes for one of his greatest recordings! The album was recorded in SF in 1976, and it's got the laidback groove of some of the best sides coming from the area at the time – a sweet blend of fusion, Latin, and modal jazz grooving. Nunez plays electric piano, clavinet, piano, and organ – and a few tracks feature his vocals, which have a confident style that's somewhere between Mark Murphy and Tony Benett (in his jazzier mode.) The centerpiece of the album is a long mellow-grooving version of "See You Later", a tune that Flip wrote, and which has been covered on a number of other jazz dance classics over the years – but the album's filled with great tunes, like "D'ju Like Me", "This Time For Good", "Why Did You Come Into My Life", and "Mr Cool", a sweet little funky tune! VariousMasterpiece Volume 34 – The Ultimate Disco Funk Collection ... CD
PTG (Netherlands), Late 70s/1980s. New Copy ... $11.99
The Masterpiece series has been running for quite a long time – and just seems to get better and better in the process! The range of tracks here is nicely expanded past those on early volumes – not straight disco or funk, but instead this great slice of overlooked club cuts that includes some rare singles, and some material that's never been released on CD at all! If you dig 80s grooves, you'll find a lot to love here – but there's a nicely wide range of sounds, too – on titles that include "Stone In Love" by Electro, "Give Me The Time" by Michelle Gold, "Let Me Know (ext version)" by Beckie Bell, "After Tonight" by Shirley Brown, "One Love" by Tony Ransom, "Your Love Is All I Need" by BT Express, "Sweet & Sassy" by Deborah Foster, "Give It Up" by Tyrone Curry, "Can't Get Over You" by Shara, "Count On Me" by Linda Tillery, "Put Me Down" by Spur Of The Moment, and "Given Up On You" by Kevin & Benetta.
