Cinematic hip hop from the steadily productive, furiously on point rhyme slinger Ghostface Killah – working here with the excellent Toronto jazz funk ensemble
Badbadnotgood – and as much as we dug Ghostface's funk band backed efforts of the previous couple years, Sour Soul might be best of 'em! None of the bands that Ghostface his rhymed out front have been anything less than of the finest caliber, but the looser narrative style of Sour Soul is a refreshing change of pace – the concept album aspect has more to do with the feel than it does an attempt to tell a complete story – leaving room for Ghost to do his inimitable thing from track-to-track without the pressure of weaving an album length tale.
Badbadnotgood's raw, dexterous vibe is a fine foil – with lots of raw percussion, psych soul guitars and keys. Includes "Mono", "Soour Soul", "Stark's Reality", "Tone's Rap", "Mind Playin' Tricks", "Ray Gun" feat Doom, "Nuggets Of Wisdom", "Food", "Experience", "Gunshowers" feat Elzhi, "Six Degrees" feat Danny Brown and more.
