✨✧ B-52sCosmic Thing ... LP
Warner, 1989. New Copy (reissue)... $21.99
The album that really broke the B52s out of the box – the one that took them from being an underground favorite in the clubs and the party scene, to being the kind of group that finally got the exposure they deserved! Of course, some of the help here comes from superproducers Nile Rodgers and Don Was – who really help the group focus on their hooks and crossover groove – all summed up perfectly on the album's hit "Love Shack" – a tune that still gets heavy play around the globe all these many years later. Other tracks include "Roam", "Channel Z", "Cosmic Thing", "Dry Country", "Topaz", "Follow Your Bliss", and "Bushfire". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ B-52sLive! 8-24-1979 ... CD
Rhino/Real Gone, 1979. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A first ever release of this killer B-52s live set – recorded in 1979, shortly after the release of their first record – opening for the Talking Heads in Boston! The band is in peak early form here, really throwing a hell of a great party on stage, with a set that's heavy on classics from first and second albums, the latter of which wouldn't even be released until the following year! There's a nicely raw feel to the record – a reminder that although they broke to the mainstream on a big label, these guys came out of the late 70s indie underground – working here with the kind of offbeat energy that made them a standout act both in their hometown of Athens – and in the New York scene where they really made their mark. Titles include "52 Girls", "606-0842", "Devil In My Car", "Dance This Mess Around", "Rock Lobster", and "Strobe Light". CD

✨✧ B-52sWild Planet ... LP
Warner, 1980. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
They may look goofy on the cover, but the young B-52s are incredible here – working with this spare sense of power that almost makes us think that we didn't need most of what happened in rock and roll during the 70s – given the way these guys can distill a mood or moment down to just a few deft instrumental turns and offbeat lyrics! The record's not punk, but it's also not new wave either – at least in the conventional way – and there's a darkness here that goes way past any simple cliches you may have associated with the band – a haunting feel that transcends most of what they were ever capable of in later years. We might even say this one tops their debut – and titles include "Party Out Of Bounds", "Dirty Back Road", "Runnin Around", "Give Me Back My Man", "Private Idaho", "Devil In My Car", "Quiche Lorraine", "Strobe Light" and "53 Miles West Of Venus". Warner, 1979. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A hell of a debut from The B-52s – and a record that's become surprisingly timeless over the years, despite a retro-styled approach by the group! These guys aren't the silly group of later years here – and instead, they've got this moody darkness that's wonderful – a re-envisioned postwar America, one in which the neuroses are all on the outside – served up with instrumentation that's stark, but incredibly tight – snapping drums, riffing guitar, and these great organ lines that sound beautiful next to the vocals of Fred and the girls. The set gave the group their perennial hit "Rock Lobster" – but taken as a whole, it's an incredibly different landscape – as you'll discover on tracks that include "Planet Claire", "52 Girls", "Dance This Mess Around", "Lava", "There's A Moon In The Sky (Called The Moon)", "Hero Worship", "6060-842" and "Downtown". ✨✧ RevillosStratoplay (6CD set) ... CD
Cherry Red (UK), Early 80s. New Copy 6 CDs ... Out Of Stock
A complete run of music from the Revillos – a group who only gave the world two full studio albums in their initial run, then recorded live albums later in the 90s – all of which are here, along with a whole host of bonus material too! The Revillos always had a bit of a retro look to them – and although they grew up in the post-punk years of the UK, their style is a mad mash-up of new wave modes and 50s elements – maybe vaguely in the territory of the B52s, but with a style that's very much the group's own! This set brings together a massive 140 tracks in all – the full albums Rev Up and Attack Of The Revillos, the latter in two different versions – plus the sets Live & On Fire In Japan, and Totally Alive – and then two more live recordings from 1981, one British and one American – plus lots of bonus tracks from singles, some John Peel sessions, and other BBC material too – in a hefty box with a big booklet of notes.
