✨✧ Augustus PabloRockers Meets King Tubbys In A Firehouse ... LP
Yard/Onlyroots (France), 1980. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
It's a good thing the Rockers All-Stars met King Tubby in a firehouse – as the record's so burning, somebody almost had to put out the fire! The album's a classic from that moment when Agustus Pablo was crafting some of his best lines on melodica, and helping out with the arrangements too – with instrumentation from a group that includes Earl Chinna Smith on guitar, Robbie Shakespeare on bass, and the great Deadly Headly on horns – all given some cool combinations of keys from Pablo, who also handles organ, piano, and the cool "strings assemble" too! Mixed by Prince Jammy and King Tubby – with titles that include "Zion Is A Home", "Jah Say Dub", "Dub In Matthews Lane Arena", and "Simeon Tradition". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Augustus PabloEl Rockers ... CD
Pressure Sounds (UK), 1973. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Essential! One wonders why when the original King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown album is so heavy, that you'd want another dub version, but one spin of this special reissue package and you'll be convinced. Altogether different dubs and versions of many of the same rhythm cuts as that watershed dub LP only prove that the whole concept of "versioning", and cutting multiple dubs of the same rhythms (usually to service selectors and sound systems who needed unique tracks) was pure genius on the part of Jamaican producers. Add that to the sheer weight of the rhythms used here, and you've got a formula for a potent set! Once again, the producers at Pressure Sounds have dug up some beautiful gems, finding unique versions of H. Swaby's melodica dancing over thundering Rockers' rhythms and taking a dip now and again in a bucket of reverb & echoplex. Insightful liner notes and a beautiful sleeve complete this package of 17 massive instrumental tracks, including "Black Gunn", "New Style", "El Rockers", "Skanking Easy", "Tribalist" and "Cassava Piece". ✨✧ Augustus PabloKing Tubbys Meets Rockers Uptown ... CD
Shanachie, 1975. Used ... Out Of Stock
Essential dub material from the legendary King Tubby – a set that's one of the best of the genre during the classic years – and which stands as a true testament to how great the format can be when handled right! The watchword here is simplicity – as the key elements are almost isolated in little sonic chambers, then set to resonate alongside each other – pulled from rhythms from tracks initially done as vocal productions, but reworked through the mixing talents of Erroll "ET" Thompson and Tubby. Players include Bobby Ellis on trumpet, Richard "Dirty Harry" Hall on tenor, and Augustus Pablo on organ and piano, plus a bit of clarinet. Titles include "Keep On Dubbing", "Stop Them Jah", "Young Generation Dub", "Each One Dub", "555 Dub Street", "Braces Tower Dub", "King Tubby Meets Rockers Uptown", "Corner Crew Dub", "Say So", "Skanking Dub", and "Frozen Dub". Jacob MillerWho Say Jah No Dread ... LP
Greensleeves, Mid 70s. New Copy (reissue)... $24.99 27.98
Beautiful sounds from the mighty Jacob Miller – material recorded with Augustus Pablo in the years before Miller went onto greater fame in Inner Circle – and with a rootsy vibe that's still extremely powerful all these many years later! Pablo's at the height of his talents here – able to hit just the best righteous modes, but without ever going over the top – at a level that seems completely effortless, and which really empowers the message in Miller's vocals! The set's overflowing with gems – and titles include "Keep On Knocking", "Each One Teach One", "Who Say Jah No Dread", "False Rasta", "Baby I Love You So", and "Girl Named Pat" – plus the dubs "Knocking Version", "Hungry Town Skank", "King Tubby Meet Rockers Uptown", "Jah Dread", "Each One Teach One Version", and "Girl Named Pat Version". Rockers All StarsChanting Dub With The Help Of The Father ... LP
Rockers International/Onlyroots (France), 1978. New Copy (reissue)... $23.99 28.99
A lean and spooky little set from the Rockers All Stars – put together with killer production from Augustus Pablo and Everton Da Silva! The vibe here is in the moodiest territory that Pablo might explore on albums under his own name – and although the father is providing help, it's clear that the group can make plenty of fantastic magic on their own! The set was mixed at King Tubby's and Harry J's – and although we're guessing the proceedings were laidback and casual, the record's gone on to become an underground dub classic over the years. Titles include "Hammer Dub", "Fire Dub", "Jah Dub", "Money Dub", "Static Dub", "Equal Rights Dub", and "Clean Sweep". LP, Vinyl record album

Various200% Dynamite! – Ska, Soul, Rocksteady, Funk, & Dub In Jamaica ... CD
Soul Jazz (UK), Late 60s/Early 70s. New Copy ... $21.99 22.99
Pure dynamite throughout – a really killer batch of cuts that easily steps between 60s and 70s styles in Jamaican music – shaking things up with soulful late 60s numbers, funky 70s gems, and some dubbier tracks from a time when production styles really opened up! As with other volumes in this excellent series, the choice of cuts is wonderful – really well-chosen tracks that go past the hits, but also feature some numbers that have become underground classics over the years – but all at a level that's got a lot more bite than some of the oft-played reggae that's been keeping dorm rooms running for decades. There's a total of 14 tracks in all – and titles include "Rocker's Rock" by Augustus Pablo, "No No No" by KC White, "Ring The Alarm" by Tenor Saw, "One Two" by Sister Nancy, "Woman Of The Ghetto" by Kim Harriott, "Heatwave" by Johnny Organ, "King Tubby Dub" by Tommy McCook & The Agrovators, "Earthquake" by Jackie Mittoo, and "Ready Or Not" by Johnny Osborne. ✨✧ Fazal Prendergast & The High Times PlayersHigh Music Showcase ... LP
Hornin Sounds (France), 1982. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A set that's filled with fantastic work from guitarist Fazal Prendergast – working here in a laidback setting with lean backing from the High Times Players, a group that features some sweet keyboard work from Augustus Pablo! The tunes were recorded at Channel One and Aquarius, and mixed at King Tubby's by Scientist – and the proceedings are mostly instrumental, and mix roots reggae rhythms with plenty of dub touches in the studio – all of which are a perfect showcase for the edgey and trippy solo work of Fazal! Titles include "Natural Living", "Fazal Sounds", "High Music", "Herb Eyes", "Water Falls", "Agent 27", and "Cool Vibration". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Yabby YouJesus Dread 1972 to 1977 ... CD
Blood & Fire (UK), 1970s. Used 2CD ... Out Of Stock
Excellent 2 CD set compiling the work of roots rock prophet Vivian Jackson, aka Yabby You. While the tracks all keep the minor key dark mood that much of the heavier roots cuts tend to have, there's still an uplifting quality to the set, and many memorable performances, not just by Yabby You, but also sax great Tommy McCook, DJ Tappa Zukie, Augustus Pablo and immense dubs courtesy of King Tubby. There's over 40 tracks here, including quite a lot of versioning, spread out over 2 CDs, with a fat booklet jammed with notes. Includes "Run Come Rally", "Yabby Youth", "Pablo Dread in a Red", "Tubby's Vengeance", "Warn the Nation", "Chant Jah Victory", "Deliver Me from My Enemies", "King Pharoah's Plague" and "King Tubby Special". VariousGussie Presenting The Right Tracks ... LP
17 North Parade, Mid 70s. New Copy ... $19.99 23.98
Classic productions from the legendary Augustus "Gussie" Clarke – all work recorded at Channel One and King Tubby's – and done in this laidback, soulful groove that's completely sublime! The music here never goes too far over the top – just sweet and subtle rhythms that have this gentle-stepping quality that works perfect with the vocals – which are delivered by some of the most soulful singers on the scene at the time. All horn arrangements are by Tommy McCook and Bobby Ellis, but also have this mellow vibe too – very different than some of the earlier material, often with snakey elements that really work great with the vocals. Album features 11 killers – including "The Right Track" by Tommy McCook", "Guiding Star" by Leroy Sibbles, "How Can I Love Someone" by Delroy Wilson, "Born To Dub You" by Augustus Pablo, "Their Own Way" by Dennis Brown, "Girl Don't Come" by Jacob Miller, and "Love You To Want Me" by Horace Andy. ✨✧ Augustus PabloOriginal Rockers ... LP
Rockers/Onlyroots (UK), Mid 1970s. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Some of the deepest, trippiest sounds from the Jamaican scene in the 70s – a classic collection of dubbed-up cuts from Augustus Pablo – who throws in loads of sweet melodica lines to the rhythms, at least in between hits of the pipe he's smoking on the cover! Pablo took the laidback side of dub to a whole new level with a record like this – finding a way to let the rhythms bump out and swirl around themselves in space, then improvise his own keyboard lines with the airy tone of the melodica – itself already a haunting instrument, but taken to very original territory in the hands of Augustus. Titles include "Rockers Dub", "Up Warrika Hill", "Cassava Piece", "Tubby's Dub Song", "Jah Dread", "Brace A Boy", "Thunder Clap", "Park Lane Special", "New Style" and "A P Special". LP, Vinyl record album
