An incredible chapter in the career of legendary Cuban pianist Chuco Valdes – two rare small combo jazz sessions recorded in Havana in the 60s, issued with bonus tracks as well! The group here is a really wonderful one – and features a young Paquito D'Rivera on alto sax and clarinet, as well as flute, trombone, guitar, bass, and percussion – all served up in a lean mode that showcases a whole new sound in Cuban jazz! Many of the tunes have a slightly more modern feel than more familiar Cuban work from the pre-1960 years – and Valdes' ear for unusual phrasings and timings really keeps things fresh throughout. CD features the full albums Jazz Nocturno and Descarga – both issued in 1964 – plus bonus tracks from the
Areito anthology Pianoforte Vol 2, also recorded in the same year but with a rhythm trio. CD features 27 titles that include "Bebada", "Atomo", "Por La Libre", "Descarga De Kike", "Tu No Sabes De Amor", "Descarga Para Banda Y Combo", "Guajira Cha", "Quien Baila Mejor", "Por La Libre", "Layda", "Pilin Pilon", "Mambo Influenciado", "Descarga De Monte Adentro", "Noches De Moscu", and "Chachacha Nina".
