✨✧ Willie MabonWillie Mabon Sings – I Don't Know & Other Chicago Blues Hits (aka Willie Mabon Is Back Funky) ... LP
Antilles, 1976. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of a number of sessions cut by Chicago bluesman Willie Mabon in the 70s – done in at a time when his talents were being re-discovered by a host of younger listeners. The overall style is in the older mode of Willie's classic years – relatively spare, with backing by a Chicago group that includes Little Mack Simmons on harmonica and Mighty Joe Young on guitar. Willie's on piano and vocals, and titles include "Trouble Blues", "I Wonder", "Worry Blues", "Hey Gal", "Thinkin About You", "Going To Get You", and "Hang Loose Baby". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ White NoiseElectric Storm (aka White Noise) ... LP
Antilles/Island (Germany), 1969. New Copy (reissue)... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A wonderfully spaced-out album of electronic rock from the early days of Island Records! White Noise are a bit like Silver Apples – mixing trippy rock with odd electronic twists that are all very much in a heady late 60s sort of way. But the "rock" component of the album is a very small one – and the record's got equal parts of the audio trickery of contemporaneous work by Bruce Haack or Jon Appleton. Most of the record is the brainchild of David Vorhaus, but the record also features a bit of drum work by Paul Lytton (who would later do a lot of electronics himself), plus oddly-keyed strings and some goofy vocals from Annie Bird. Tracks include "Love Without Sound", "Here Come the Fleas", and the very long cuts "The Visitation" and "Black Mass". LP, Vinyl record album

Quantic Presents Flowering InfernoDog With A Rope ... CD
Tru Thoughts (UK), 2010. Used ... $18.99
Will Holland returns to Quantic's Colombian and other points Caribbean inspirations with an excellent album by his Flowering Inferno group – rhythms, moods and aural atmosphere that's mixes the music of the Antilles with neighboring Colombia , as well as vibes from Jamaica, Trinidad and Cuba – all with a joyful Quantic twist! The stew of tropical funk, percussion and rhythmic mastery turned out more beautifully than we imagined on the Death Of The Revolution debut, and if anything it feels even more natural on Dog With A Rope – and it probably is! Holland recorded, produced and mixed the set with a sure hand a live feel for the most part, as well as playing some piano, rhythm guitar, accordion, organ and more – again recording in Cali, Colombia with a wonderful group of of players contributing bongo, maraca, timbales, drums and other percussion, bass, trumpet and pocket trumpet, sax, piano and vocals. Titles include "Dog With A Rope", "Dub Y Guaguanco", "Swing Easy", "Portada" Del Mar", "Cumbia Sobre El Mar", "Echate Pa'lla" (plus Version), "TE Pico El Yaibi" (plus Version), "No Soy Del Valle" and more. VariousFrom The Archive – Compiled By Volcov ... CD
BBE (UK), Late 70s/Early 80s/2016. New Copy ... $10.99 14.99
The archive here appears to be Volcov's own record collection – but that's A-OK with us, because he's got some wonderfully groovy, wonderfully soulful, wonderfully under-discovered records he wants to share with us! The set's got a wicked blend of obscure tracks from decades back, and some contemporary cuts that share a similar vibe – music that's in a really special place between soul, jazz, and fusion – often with a cosmic vibe that gives the whole collection a very righteous sound! Liner notes are by Patrick Forge, who points out how obscure most of these tracks are, and what a special collection this is – and we definitely agree with his words, as most of these tracks are new to us, too. Titles include "Keep The Same Old Feeling" by Hot Quisine, "Do The Right Thing" by JOB, "Go (Chez Damien classic mix)" by The Urban Cru, "The Sound Of The Memory Of Many Living People" by Are & Be, "Arigo (Volcov edit)" by Manfredo Fest, "Turning On To Me" by Oneness Of Juju, "Footprints On The Sand (Shannon Harris Urbanicity reinterpretation)" by Chanan Hanspal, "Sophisticated Disco (Volcov edit)" by O'Donel Levy, "Simon's Melody" by The Antilles, "Part 4" by Shakazulu, and "Sun On My Back" by Bembe Segue.
