A wonderful performance, and one that really marks the shift in sound and musical development that guitarist Jeff Parker has experienced on the Los Angeles scene – as he works here in the familiar grounds of Enfield Tennis Academy, where he'd held a regular space for quite some time with the beautiful combo on the record! The tracks are long and flowing – very different than some of the spacier improvisations of Parker's early years on the Chicago scene, and even different than some of the music on his other International Anthem releases – as the group open up with a very organic, spiritual sensibility – as Josh Johnson blows an amplified alto sax with some electronics, next to the bass of Anna Butterss, and drums and percussion of Jay Bellerose. There's a beautiful sense of soul to the whole record – Parker as part of another key group in his career, but approaching things with an individuality that's very different than his performances in other combos.
