✨✧ David BowieAladdin Sane (45th anniversary silver vinyl pressing) ... LP
Virgin, 1973. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)... Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of our favorite David Bowie albums ever! Aladdin Sane was a real turning point for Bowie – recorded on the heels of the tremendously popular Ziggy Stardust album, but really pushing the boundaries past the more straight-ahead rock and glam of that record. Instead of just sitting on his laurels, Bowie tripped out into a wilder, weirder world with this one – mixing together elements of some of the baroque arrangements of early records, with the meaner leaner sound of the 70s – populating the songs with freaks, weirdos, and odd characters that gave the whole thing a really creepy edge. The whole thing's an oft-overlooked gem that, to us, is truly one of Bowie's most magical moments – and titles include "Drive In Saturday", "Panic In Detroit", "Aladdin Sane", "Watch That Man", "The Jean Genie", "The Prettiest Star", "Time", and "Lady Grinning Soul". LP, Vinyl record album
(Limited edition silver colored vinyl – exclusive to indie brick and mortar stores in the US.)

Lester YoungGreat Lester Young – Vol 2 ... LP
Aladdin/Imperial, Late 40s. Very Good ... $13.99
Great early work from Lester Young – an Imperial Records collection of early material from the 78rpm days of Aladdin Records! The work is a great bridge between swing and pop – and Lester Young's tone is superb throughout – on titles that include "One O'Clock Jump", "Easy Does It", "East Of The Sun", "No Eyes Blues", "The Sheik Of Araby", "Confessin' That I Love You", "Something To Remember You By", "On The Sunny Side Of The Street", "Jumpin' At Mesners", "It's Only A Paper Moon", "Lover Come Back To Me" and "Jumpin' With Symphony Sid". LP, Vinyl record album

David BowieDiamond Dogs (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Parlophone, 1974. New Copy Gatefold (reissue)... $21.99
David Bowie at his most sinister for the 70s – a landmark set that combines the harder rocking sound of the Ziggy Stardust years with the more sophisticated theatrics of Aladdin Sane – in a style that features some of the darkest, most political work of Bowie's career! There's a depth to the record that goes way beyond the silly, sensational cover image – and there's also a sonic complexity that's wonderful too – a songs slide into each other with a deftness that never fails to amaze us! The album grew out of a failed project based around George Orwell's famous book 1984 – but the rights to that story were denied by the family – so Bowie went in his own directly, and honestly came up with work that was far better than if he'd done any sort of slavish reading of the novel (Rick Wakeman famously failed in that territory – and the Eurhythmics fared just slightly better.) The whole thing's great, and titles include "Diamond Dogs", "1984", "Sweet Thing", "Candidate", "Rebel Rebel", and "Big Brother". LP, Vinyl record album

Teena MarieJohn Morales Presents Teena Marie – Love Songs & Funky Beats – Remixed With Loving Devotion ... CD
BBE (UK), Late 70s/1980s. New Copy 2CD ... $32.99 35.99
The legend of Teena Marie lives again, and in a really beautiful way – as John Morales serves up tunes that work together almost as a tribute to the memory of the lady – with these really fresh versions that seem to add a lot of majesty to the sound as well! These aren't easy remixes that just focus on the hooks – and instead, Morales strips the tunes down and builds them up from the core – sometimes adding elements that were removed from the original versions that were issued, or bringing in his own touches in ways that make us wonder what sort of magic might have happened, had Motown let John into the studio to produce some of her classic albums. Make no mistake, if you love Teena Marie, you'll find plenty here to love – but the set is also just way more than a set of remixes too – with sublime takes on tunes that include "You're All The Boogie I Need", "I Need Your Lovin", "365", "Portuguese Love", "Chains", "It Must Be Magic", "First Class Love", "Aladdin's Lamp", "Behind The Groove", "Square Biz", "Now That I Have You", "You're All The Boogie I Need", "I'm A Sucker For Your Love (live)", "Wasn't I Good To You", "More Love", "Lonely Desire", and her duet with Rick James on "Fire & Desire". VariousYou Need This – A Journey Into Deep Jazz Vol 3 (3LP set) ... LP
BBE (UK), 1970s. New Copy 3LP Gatefold ... $28.99 30.98
An excellent collection of rare jazz grooves – the special kind of tracks that effortlessly mix up influences and styles, with a result that makes each and every number a real standout in the set! This is the third volume in the series, and the mix of music is wonderful – tunes from artists who are definitely jazz, and who have sophistication that goes way past familiar funky modes – into territory that's often far-reaching, and influenced by spiritual modes – even though all the tracks have a great little groove! There's plenty of fantastic modal moments in the collection, and although the core energy of the package comes from the 70s underground jazz scene, there's also some great bits from other periods too. Titles include "Nepal" by Bjorn Alkes Kvartette, "Probuzeni" by Jazz Celula "Dawn" by Sangram, "Manteca" by Phineas Newborn Jr, "Pan African Ballet Music" by Karlton Hester & The Contemporary Jazz Art Movement, "Hasta La Victra Siempra" by Copa Salvo, "Impressions" by Stafford James Ensemble, "Middle Passage" by Tyrone Jefferson, "Aladdin's Carpet" by Beaver Harris, and "24 Carat" by Gabor Szabo. ✨✧ Lightnin HopkinsStrums The Blues ... LP
Score/Third Man, Early 50s. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
A late 50s collection of earlier 78rpm singles issued by Aladdin Records – material that's far rawer than the "strums" in the title might imply! At a time when other blues musicians were fleshing things out a bit – sometimes adding in larger backings, horns, and a bit of electricity – Lightnin Hopkins hardly needed that at all, as the man's voice and guitar are more than enough to knock things out of the park! Titles include "So Long", "Mistreated", "Shotgun", "Rollin & Rollin", "My California", "Honey Babe", "Short Haired Woman", and "Katie May". LP, Vinyl record album
