EminemSlim Shady LP (3LP expanded 20th anniversary edition) ... LP
Aftermath/Interscope, 1999. New Copy 3LP Gatefold (reissue)... $44.99 51.99
Eminem at an early, angry, darkly comic peak –mixing rawly personal storytelling and revenge fantasies with a cynical sense of humor in ways that weren't entirely unheard of in underground hip hop, but his voice was so distinctive in both sound and style, and blew up so huge, he pretty much redefined popular hip hop and pop music forever. The production by The Bass Brothers, Dr Dre and Eminem himself aren't exactly raw or spare, but they leave so much room for Em's scary, funny, disturbing rhymes to do their damage – and for all the hype about who offensive they are, who went after himself as viciously as anyone else. It's fascinating to this day – making this 20th anniversary edition with a bonus LP all the more warranted. Includes "My Name Is", "Guilty Conscience", "Paul", "'97 Bonnie & Clyde" "Rock Bottom", "As The World Turns", "Bad Meets Evil" and more – plus bonus tracks and 12" versions and including "Hazardous Youth (Acapella Version)", "Bad Guys Always Die" from the Wild Wild West soundtrack, "Get You Mad", "Greg (Acapella Version)" and more. 30 tracks on 3LPs! LP, Vinyl record album

Kendrick LamarDAMN. ... LP
Aftermath/Interscope, 2017. Near Mint- 2LP Gatefold ... Just Sold Out!
DAMN!, indeed – Kendrick has yet to take even a small step down from the creative peak he's been riding for years – and takes another daring step forward with this strong, strident, no-mess-taking classic in the making! The surprise-announced DAMN! finds him taking on timely concerns – some longtime inherent to everyday racial, social, and class struggles in American life, and others that are purely personal. The production is diverse to a degree, but a bit straight forward compared to the sprawling, years-in-the-making To Pimp A Butterfly – all by design, as DAMN! is clearly made to sound fresh and urgent right now. But like all great musical art, it's built to stand the test of time. Includes guest producers, musicians and vocalists as varied as Thundercat, U2, Kamasi Washington, Kid Capri and Rihanna. Titles include "BLOOD.", "DNA.", "YAH.", "ELEMENT.", "LOYALTY." feat Rihanna, "PRIDE.", "LUST." with strings arranged by Kamasi Washington, "XXX." feat U2, "FEAR.", "GOD." and "DUCKWORTH." LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Anderson PaakOxnard (with bonus tracks) ... LP
12T/Aftermath, 2018. New Copy 2LP Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
Cinematic hip hop soul from Anderson.Paak named after a seaside city west of Los Angeles, CA – but it's not Malibu, it's the stunning follow up Oxnard – a little looser, more diverse, and ultimately just as impressive set from this still rising talent! The uber-impressive guest list including Kadhja Bonet, Norelle, Kendrick Lamar, Snoop, Dre, Pusha T, J Cole, Q-Tip and more but this is the sprawling Anderson.Paak show all the way, his distinctive blend of Cali sunshine and nighttime music and mood, his gritty-smooth voice so masterfully going back & forth from singing to rhyming, the production breathtaking from the stripped down beats, bass and vocals focused tracks to grander and more densely layered material. Includes "The Chase" with Kadja Bonet, "Headlow" feat Lowrell, "Tints" feat Kendrick Lamar, "Who R U", "6 Summers", "Saviers Road", "Smile/Petty", "Mansa Musa", "Brothers Keeper" feat Pusha T, "Anywhere" feat Snoop Dogg & Last Artful Dodgr, "Trippy" feat J Cole and "Cheers" feat Q-Tip – plus the bonus tracks "Sweet Chick" feat BJ The Chicago Kid and "Left To Right". 12T/Aftermath, 2019. New Copy Gatefold ... Out Of Stock
Anderson.Paak heads to Ventura for this one – and something about that sunny coastal city brings out his soul influences after the primarily hip hop-leaning Oxnard! Paak leads on his raspy sung style for this one, an easygoing hip hop soul sound that's built to last, and again bringing in a heavy hitting of roster guests – including Andre 3000, Nate Dogg, Lalah Hathaway, Brandy and even Smokey Robinson – on tracks including "Come Home", "Make It Better" with Smokey Robinson, "Reachin' 2 Much", "King James", "Goodheels" with Jazmine Sullivan, "Yada Yada", "Jet Black" with Brandy, "Twilight" and "Chosen One" with Sonyae Elise and more. ✨✧ Dr Dre2001 ... LP
Aftermath/Interscope, 1999. New Copy 2LP (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Dre's solid and hugely successful follow-up to The Chronic, and production-wise it holds up really well after all these years! Chronic set the sound bar so high, even 6 or 7 years later its shadow loomed large, but Dre delivers a headnodding groove that was pretty tough to resist, then and now. The most misogynist rhymes haven't aged nearly as well, but guests Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Xzibit, Hittman, Kurupt and more have some nice moments. 22 tracks counting interludes, including "Still DRE", "Xxplosive", 'What's The Difference", 'The Next Episode", "Let's Get High" and more. . . ✨✧ Dr Dre2001 Instrumental ... LP
Aftermath/Interscope, 1999. New Copy 2LP (reissue)... Out Of Stock
We probably liked Dre's comeback LP better than we'd like to admit, and a lot more so stripped of the often relentless braggadocio and most misogynistic of Dre's own rhymes. That makes the instrumentals version a real gem. Nothing here but those minimal, hissing beats and sandy synth washes that make Dre great. Includes "XXplosive", "What's The Difference", "Bar One", "Light Speed", "Forgot About Dre", "Bang Bang", "The Message" and the rest, leisurely rolled out over two slabs of vinyl. ✨✧ Hannibal Marvin PetersonChildren Of The Fire ... LP
Sunrise, 1974. New Copy (reissue)... $9.99
One of the most beautiful, most sophisticated, and most fully-realized sessions from trumpeter Hannibal Marvin Peterson – and a record that features some incredible larger backings from David Amram! The set's a haunting suite dedicated to the children of Vietnam – one that starts out in a darkly brooding mode, but which opens up with some extremely redemptive moments as the set moves on – done in a very spiritual approach to soul jazz that's strongly in the Alice Coltrane tradition! Instrumentation includes a small string group, plus added percussion – and musicians on the set include Art Webb on flute, Richard Davis on bass, Billy Hart on drums, Michael Cochran on piano, and Hannibal himself on both trumpet and koto. The lovely Alpha Johnson sings on a few of the album's tracks, and the whole thing is very warm and deep, and has a lot of variance in tempo and mood, with a strong spiritual feel similar to that of some of the more ambitious Strata East recordings from the time! Titles include "Forest Sunrise", "The Bombing", "Prayer", "Aftermath", and "Finale". LP, Vinyl record album

Joel SelvinAltamont – The Rolling Stones, The Hells Angels & The Inside Story Of Rock's Darkest Day (hardcover) ... Book
Dey St, 2016. New Copy ... $8.99 27.99
A detailed look at one of the most famous rock and roll concerts of all time – the ill-fated Rolling Stones 1969 performance at Altamont race track, in which the group made the mistake of inviting Hells Angels to handle security! The Angels were bullies, and famously stabbed a concert-goer at the event – after beating up many others along the way – and the whole event has been hailed as the end of the party for the 60s over the years. Yet while many tell the tale with easy explanations and a prime focus on either the Stones or the Angels, author Joel Selvin does a really great job of setting the whole scene, and putting the tragedy in the larger cultural context of the time – with a fair bit on both the leadup and the aftermath of the concert. 358 pages, hardcover, with some images. ✨✧ OrbHistory Of The Future Part 2 ... CD
P-Vine (Japan), 2015. New Copy 2CD ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A collection of work that The Orb mostly recorded in the first decade of the 21st Century – a time when they were nicely breaking free of some of the cliches that had crept into their work the decade before, and were using their core sound in a whole host of unusual ways! The package features a mix of instrumentals and vocal tracks – the latter of which feature some especially nice work by Aki Omori at a few moments – and the interesting thing is the way the group mixes more experimental moments with tracks that move in a more organic way. Titles include "Pebbles", "The Orbots Surround The Trojan Horse", "Angel 4 Matrix", "Baghdad Batteries", "Oopa", "Edelgrun", "Glen Coe", "Gee Strings", "Aftermath", "Tower Twenty Three (Spud vs Kreature mix)", "DDD (unit 1 mad orb)", "Vuja De", "Golden Clouds (Ocho rmx)", "Ripples", "Ball Of Fire (Dabrye rmx)", "Soulman (Villod rmx)", "From a Distance (Blast Master vs The Corpral)", "Apple Tree (Abacus rmx)", "Shen Version)", "Sail", "Cool Harbour", and "Fussball (Deadbeat's champion league dub)".
