✨✧ PT HouseBig World EP ... LP
Afrosynth (Netherlands), 1991. New Copy (reissue)... $22.99 26.99
A very clubby set from the Johannesburg scene at the start of the 90s – four longer tracks that really showcase that moment when house music influences were running through more mainstream R&B – all at a level that's richer and more soulful than some of the synth-heavy work of the decade before! The basslines are great – really grooving in that garage style that was big in the NYC clubs at the time – warming up the tunes in mighty nice ways, and making for some very seductive rhythms! Titles include the super-catchy title cut "Big World", plus "Unity", "Rebatla Muzik", and "Qinisela". LP, Vinyl record album

StarlightStarlight ... LP
Heads/Afrosynth (Netherlands), 1983. New Copy (reissue)... $18.99 29.99
A really great South African group from the early 80s – and one with a sound that's a lot funkier and clubbier than most of the music from their scene that was being sent out through the world music market! Instead, the vibe here is like some of the coolest club tracks of the time – both underground New York work from the electro scene, and some of the more keyboard-heavy tracks that were showing up in the more Cosmic Euro dancefloors – served up with an approach that often has vocals just egging on the instrumentation, instead of the other way around – as keyboards and basslines take the lead on titles that include "Keep On Moving", "Picnic", "Let's Go Dancing Boogie Boogie", "Starlight", "Jah Jay Love", and "Picnicing". ✨✧ Citi ExpressLiving For The City ... LP
On Records/Afrosynth (Netherlands), 1991. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Very clubby work from the South African scene at the start of the 90s – a record that warms things up nicely from the synth pop recordings of a few years before, and really seems to embrace all the best elements of house music in the process! The songs are catchy and have nice hooks when the vocals come in – and in a way, the approach here is similar to that moment when more mainstream UK work firmly embraced inspirations from Chicago house, then really let things open up and groove! Titles include "Love Is The Message", "People Of The World", "Living For The City", "Victim Of Your Love", "Open Invitation", and "It's Too Late". LP, Vinyl record album
