Miguel NoyaCanciones Intactas (white vinyl pressing) ... LP
Phantom Limb (UK), Late 80s. New Copy 2LP ... $32.99
Really beautiful work from Venezuelan electronic music genius Miguel Noya – tracks from records that were mostly self-released at the time, and are part of a really unique legacy that finally gets its due in a larger forum! The music here was created on a host of different 80s digital elements – and at many times, often recalls some of the Japanese electronic minimalism of the period – especially as Noya has a strong ear for more organic, environmental sounds – which he serves up with a brilliant, understated charm. The style is a great illustration of the way that artists of this generation were moving to a less-is-more mode of electronic exploration – very different than the sorts of work of the 60s especially, which always seemed to be trying to call attention to itself. Titles include "Mega Brain Focos (parts 1 & 2)", "Parsec", "Contemplacion", "Aire", "Inoculacion", and "Tactil". LP, Vinyl record album

Avishai CohenBig Vicious ... CD
ECM (Germany), 2020. New Copy ... $17.99 19.99
Trumpeter Avishai Cohen has given us many great records over the years, yet this time around, he seems to be cooking up something extra-special – an album that still echoes some of his older ideas, but which maybe has a bit more warmth, and a bit more unity – qualities that seem to come partly from the album's use of two different guitarists, whose electric elements provide a nice backdrop for the Cohen's trumpet! Uzi Ramirez plays one guitar, and Yonatan Albalak plays the other, and a bit of bass – but there's also maybe a more pointed drum sound too – not too funky or rhythmic, yet more than we're used to hearing from Avishai, and maybe ECM too. Aviv Cohen and Ziv Ravitz handle the drums – and the latter does some live sampling – and Avishai also adds some electric touches to the record, as well as uses a few effects on his horn. Titles include "The Cow & The Calf", "This Time It's Different", "Fractals", "Hidden CHamber", "Honey Fountain", "The Things You Tell Me", and "Teno Neno". CD
Also available Big Vicious ... LP 24.99

SoiaWhere Magnolia Grows ... CD
Beat Art Department, 2019. New Copy ... $7.99 15.98
Soia has a wonderfully crisp, chunky style to her music – very well-placed on a label with "beat art" in the name – but topped with snakey, soulful vocals that are a really great contrast! There's a production style that's right up there with the best of the hip hop underground, but the music is completely soul – personal, but sometimes a bit more – on titles that include "Pancakes", "Run With Wolves", "Vacant Paradise", "Looming Storm", "Pay For Pizza", and "Fractal Spirits". Ville Vannemaa CassiopeiaVille Vannemaa Cassiopeia (10 inch) ... 12-inch
Jazzaggression (Finland), 2020. New Copy (pic cover)... $15.99
A group with players that you probably can't pronounce, but a sound that will grab you right away – a fantastic combination of vibes, saxes, and trombone – all set to some really great modal rhythms! The combo is led by Ville Vannemaa, who blows tenor and bass clarinet – but the quintet is clearly a very cohesive lineup, and work together with a very fresh, very individual sense of rhythm and tone! Panu Savolainen plays vibes, Kasperi Sarikoski trombone, and rhythm is from the duo of Heikko Remmel on bass and Jaska Lukkarinen – on a batch of originals by Vannemaa. Limited 10" features two tracks not on the album – "Ring The Bell" and "Bacta Tank Blues". 12-inch, Vinyl record
(Limited to 250 copies.)
