Annette PeacockAcrobat's Heart ... LP
ECM (Germany), 2000. New Copy 2LP Gatefold (reissue)... $51.99 55.99
Singer Annette Peacock always seems to find a musical path of her own – continuing to shift and change, and create music that's filled with the same sense of surprise as her earliest albums – a legacy that's hard for many to match! Here, she finds yet another great space for expression – working in a spare ECM mode that has her voice and piano supported only by light strings from the Cikada String Quartet – a group who very much let Peacock take the lead, then find just the right way to augment the sound! Both the piano and vocals are recorded with a magnificent sense of tone – and titles include "Weightless", "Mia's Proof", "As Long As Now", "Over", "Ways It Isn't", "Safe", "Unspoken", and "Free The Memory". LP, Vinyl record album
(New pressing – cut from the original masters!)

✨✧ Jazz Couriers (Tubby Hayes & Ronnie Scott)Some Of My Best Friends Are Blues ... CD
Acrobat (UK), Late 50s. Used ... $14.99
Seminal work from one of the hippest British groups of the 50s – the legendary Jazz Couriers, fronted by the twin-sax team of Ronnie Scott and Tubby Hayes! Both players are great here – blowing with a tone, confidence, and sense of creativity that matches most of their American contemporaries on the scene – and the set includes a mix of group originals and standards. Recorded live at London's Dominion Theatre. Hayes plays a bit of vibes, in addition to tenor sax, and players include Terry Shannon on piano and Bill Eyden on drums. The 15 titles include "Through The Night Roared The Overland Express", "A Foggy Day", "Royal Ascot", "On A Misty Night", "Oh My", "The Serpent", "Guys & Dolls", "Time Was", and "Speak Low". CD

✨✧ VariousLamp Records Story – Hits, Gems & Rarities ... CD
Lamp/Acrobat (UK), Mid 50s. Used 2CD ... Out Of Stock
Way more than just the Lamp Records Story, as the set features nearly every recording made by the label during the mid 50s – including both a and b-sides of some singles! The imprint was a smaller subsidiary of the better-known Aladdin Records – and like that label, was host to some great R&B, blues, and doo wop work – most of which didn't get nearly as much exposure as some of the bigger hits on the parent company. The 2CD set is quite thorough – and like other "label story" sets on Acrobat, really shows a new historical sensitivity from the label – right down to the very detailed liner notes. 51 titles in all – with tracks that include "Nobody But You" by Jimmy Simms, "Don't Cry" by The Inspirations, "When The Sun Goes Down" by Leonard Lee, "Darling It's Wonderful" by The Lovers, "It's All In Your Mind" by Johnny Cook, "Thank You Jesus" by The Skylight Singers, "Everytime" by Margie Hendricks, "Leave Your Love To Me" by Bonnie Evans, "I Got Plenty" by Sheri Washington, "No One Can Love You Like I Do" by Slim Saunders, "All Night Mambo" by The Cookies, "Scoochie Scoochie" by The Cues, "Our Love Is Here To Stay" by The Sharps, "Tell Me" by The Tantones, and "My Friend Charlie" by The Mello-Fellows. Black SabbathSabbath Bloody Sabbath (smoke vinyl pressing) ... LP
Warner, 1973. New Copy Gatefold ... $25.99 27.99
A pivotal album for Black Sabbath – a set that further expanded the instrumental palette of their previous work, but all without losing an edge at all – for a record that forever helped cement their role in both the classic and hard rock canons of the 70s! Ozzy is great throughout, and both he and Tony Iommi bring in a bit of keyboard work, but in just the right way – almost adding a more sinister edge to the guitars – echoed by some especially nice acoustic piano at times, particularly on the instrumental cut "Fluff". Titles include the seminal title track "Sabbath Bloody Sabbath" – plus "A National Acrobat", "Sabbra Cadabra", "Spiral Architect", "Looking For Today", and "Killing Yourself To Live". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Miroslav VitousMusic Of Weather Report ... CD
ECM (Germany), 2016. Used ... Out Of Stock
The music of Weather Report, served up by that group's legendary bassist Miroslav Vitous – but at a level that's quite different than the original! There's definitely lots of Weather Report-like elements at play here – not just Miroslav's bass and keyboards, but also the kind of wide-edged approach to fusion that the group had – that way of making your stereo feel as if it was somehow encompassing an extra 90 degrees of the spatial spectrum in the way the instruments come together! Yet the music here is also a lot more freewheeling, too – almost improvisations based on Weather Report themes – stepping "out" much more than that group ever did – save maybe on some of their more brooding live moments – which makes the whole thing way more than just a rehash of older songs. The group's a sextet – with Gary Campbell and Roberto Bonisolo on soprano and tenor saxes, Aydin Esen on keyboards, and both Gerald Cleaver and Nasheet Waits on drums – on titles that include "Birdland Variations", "Pinocchio", "Acrobat Issues", "Morning Lake", "Scarlet Woman Variations", and "Seventh Arrow". ✨✧ Francois De RoubaixLe Samourai ... LP
Universal (France), 1967. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
One of the darkest soundtracks ever from the wonderful Francois De Roubaix – a moody, brooding score that really fits the solitary spirit of the main character! There's still plenty of those cool De Roubaix elements in the mix – even some weird melodies on organ and electronics – mixed with other piano or flute lines, all in these slow-stepping modes that have a wonderfully haunting vibe. Titles include "Laetitia Par Alain Delon", "Journal De Bord", "Enterrement Sous-Marin", "Acrobaties Aeriennes", "Hotel Sandwich", "Martey's", "Valerie", "Le Samourai", and "Le Destin De Costello". ✨✧ Mel & TimBackfield In Motion/Do Right Baby ... 7-inch
Bamboo, Late 60s. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
We love these guys – and both cuts are great! "Backfield In Motion" is a huge hit for the duo – with amazingly acrobatic vocals, and a strange little hook that's a lot more enduring than you'd imagine. "Do Right" is just as great, with a jaunty little groove, and the kind of vocal pyrotechnics that always made Mel & Tim so great! 7-inch, Vinyl record
