✨✧ Rolling StonesLet It Bleed ... CD
Abkco, 1969. Used ... $4.99
Hard to go wrong with a Stones classic like this one – a record that really has the group hitting their late 60s stride, and coming across with a depth and power that really goes beyond their earlier releases! There's a sinister quality to the record right from the start – thanks to the brooding, haunting power of "Gimmie Shelter" – and the sublime "Monkey Man", which may well be one of our favorite Rolling Stones songs ever! But the whole thing's great – and other tracks include "Love In Vain", "Let It Bleed", "Live With Me", "Midnight Rambler", "Country Honk", and the classic "You Can't Always Get What You Want". CD

Bobby WomackPoet (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Abkco, 1982. New Copy (reissue)... $22.99 24.99
The first of Bobby's highly successful Poet albums from the early 80s – wonderfully done albums that showed the world that he was still very much on top of his game at the time! The sound here is great – still with that older Womack rasp and warmth, but also done in a slightly smoother mode that grooves things up with some modern soul touches, yet never loses Bobby's charm! Tunefully, the record is one of his best in years – with some wonderful mellow soul groovers that never fail to delight – all produced with a warm California sound, and featuring some great backing vocals by The Waters and a host of other Womacks. Titles include "So Many Sides Of You", "Lay Your Lovin On Me", "Secrets", "Just My Imagination", "Games", "If You Think You're Lonely Now", and "Where Do We Go From Here". LP, Vinyl record album

Bobby WomackPoet II (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Abkco, 1984. New Copy (reissue)... $22.99 24.99
One of Bobby Womack's biggest albums of the 80s – part of a set that helped reintroduce him to the soul music mainstream – and which has him standing tall as the superstar he is – with guest help from George Benson, Patti Labelle, and Wilton Felder! There's a new sort of sophistication to Bobby's music – never too smooth, especially on his vocals, which retain their original raspy charm – but a different vibe than the 70s, but one that's still very different than most mainstream soul of the time! Titles include "Tryin To Get Over You", "Through The Eyes Of A Child", "Love Has Finally Come At Last", "Who's Foolin Who", and "I Wish I Had Someone To Go Home To". LP, Vinyl record album

VariousDevil All The Time – Music From The Netflix Film ... CD
Abkco, Late 50s/Early 60s/2021. New Copy ... $7.99 15.99
An unusual blend of classic country and original music – served up here in support of the Netflix film of the same name! We really dig the classic cuts – work that includes "Young Love" by Sonny James, "Hillbilly Boogie" by The Delmore Brothers, "The Three Bells" by The Browns, "Honeycomb" by Jimmie Rogers, "Wings Of A Dove" by Ferlin Husky, "Wishful Thinking" by Wynn Stewart, "He Says The Same Things To Me" by Skeeter Davis, and "Funny How Time Slips Away" by Billy Walker – plus a live version of "Little Bessie" by The Stanley Brothers. But the quality of the older music is matched in the new cuts "Washed In The Blood" and "Banks Of The Ohio" by Pokey LaFarge, then balanced by mellower soundtrack instrumentals from Saunder Jurrians and Danny Bensi. ✨✧ Sam CookeKeep Movin' On ... LP
RCA/Abkco, Early 60s. Sealed 2LP ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A brilliant overview of Sam Cooke's best secular soul from the 60s – a well-done collection that contains tracks from Sam's early sessions for RCA, and which presents the material with a full set of notes by Peter Guaralnick, and complete details on all the sessions! Some of the tunes on here were hits, but there's a lot more here that are less familiar, including a few unreleased numbers – such that hearing the CD together is like finding that great, lost, no-nonsense Sam Cooke album that never really came out at the time! Titles include "Shake", "Yeah Man", "Good Times", "Falling In Love", "Meet Me At Mary's Place", "Rome (Wasn't Built In A Day)", "The Riddle Song", "A Change Is Gonna Come", "I'm Just A Country Boy", "Keep Movin On", and "There'll Be No Second Time". 23 tracks in all. LP, Vinyl record album
(180 gram pressing – first time on vinyl! Cover has a lightly bent corner, but looks great overall.)

✨✧ Sam CookeSam Cooke At The Copa (180 gram pressing) ... LP
RCA/Abkco, 1964. New Copy (reissue)... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A classic live album – one of the first in soul music, and a beautiful set of smooth soul tunes from Sam Cooke! Sam's singing at the high-end nitespot The Copacabana – and like many live sets performed there, this one's tailored a bit to the classy crowd at the show – but that doesn't stop him from using his voice to perfection, sweetly crafting beautiful lines on a batch of standards given the soul treatment, plus a few of Sam's own hits. And sure, it's easy to criticize this album after the release of the Live At The Harlem Square album in the mid 80s – which was recorded a year earlier, but rejected by RCA in favor of this album's crossover potential – but keep in mind that for most folks who didn't grow up with the hindsight of reissues, this album was all they had, and it still had quite an impact in the soul market. Titles include "The Best Things In Life Are Free", "Try A Little Tenderness", "If I Had A Hammer", "Twistin The Night Away", "You Send Me", and "This Little Light Of Mine". LP, Vinyl record album

A 70s album from The Stones, but one with a 60s-looking cover – and for good reason too, as the set features a whole host of unissued gems from their first decade in the studio! The package is a great reminder of how strong the group were at the start – so much so that the set ended up standing quite strongly next to other 70s giants from Mick and Keith. ✨✧ Rolling StonesTheir Satanic Majesties Request (SACD pressing) ... CD
London/Abkco, 1967. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A record that was initially thought by some as a cheap cash-in on the Sgt Peppers concept – but an album that, to us, really helped set The Rolling Stones free to express themselves in so many new and amazing ways! There's definitely a bit of the hippie vibe to the set at times – such as sitar that might have been unimaginable on a Stones track a few years before – but there's also an explosively creative approach to the album's arrangements and production, creating a kaleidoscope of sounds that only further seems to illuminate the Jagger and Richards genius! Titles include the classic "She's A Rainbow" – plus "Citadel", "2000 Man", "On With The Show", "Sing All This Together", "In Another Land", "The Lantern", and "Gomper". CD
(Hybrid SACD pressing – works on regular players too!)

✨✧ Sam CookeAin't That Good News (180 gram pressing) ... LP
RCA/Abkco, 1964. New Copy (reissue)... Out Of Stock
Good news galore from the great Sam Cooke – maybe THE album in which he fully shows off his unique contribution to soul music in the 60s – that mix of raw and sweet, easygoing and progressive – a mode that had a huge impact at the time, and went onto become a strong influence for years to come! Key proof of this approach is the landmark track "A Change is Gonna Come" – a slyly righteous track that became a huge Civil Rights anthem and has continued to have social power for many years. And even the more mundane titles have a fresh approach too – like the hit "Another Saturday Night", and a host of other gems that include "Home", "No Second Time", "The Riddle Song", "Good Times", "Meet Me At Mary's Place", and "Rome Wasn't Built In A Day". ✨✧ VariousYou Got The Power – Cameo/Parkway Northern Soul 1964 to 1967 ... CD
Cameo/Abkco, Mid 60s. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Rare soul gems from a legendary Philly family of labels – the Cameo/Parkway imprints, and the related Fairmount as well! Cameo and Parkway were home to plenty of pop hits at the start of the 60s – but they always put their money back into the scene, and were close to the ground digging up the best and brightest new Philly acts – something that maybe made them one of the first and most important to unleash the strong legacy of Philadelphia soul! Given the hits on Cameo, the company always had a great hear for upbeat groovers – which also makes for plenty of Northern Soul magic here – a legacy almost to rival early Motown, collected here in a long-overdue official look at this side of the label. Titles include "Because Of My Heart" by Frankie Beverly & The Butlers, "I Love Him So" by Nikki Blu, "Village Of Tears" by Ben Zane, "Night Owl" by Bobby Paris, "Country Girl" by Vickie Baines, "Envy In My Eyes" by The Orlons, "You Got The Power" by The Four Exceptions, "You Didn't Say A Word" by Yovnne Baker, "Who Do You Think You Are" by Soul City, "The Grass" by Lonnie Youngblood, "Shake & Shingaling (part 1)" by Gene Waiters, "SOS" by Christine Cooper, "Pass Me By" by Hattie Winston, "Picture Me Gone" by Evie Sands, and "Eddie's My Name" by Eddie Holman.
