Sam CookeAin't That Good News ... CD
RCA/Abkco, 1964. Used ... $6.99
Good news galore from the great Sam Cooke – maybe THE album in which he fully shows off his unique contribution to soul music in the 60s – that mix of raw and sweet, easygoing and progressive – a mode that had a huge impact at the time, and went onto become a strong influence for years to come! Key proof of this approach is the landmark track "A Change is Gonna Come" – a slyly righteous track that became a huge Civil Rights anthem and has continued to have social power for many years. And even the more mundane titles have a fresh approach too – like the hit "Another Saturday Night", and a host of other gems that include "Home", "No Second Time", "The Riddle Song", "Good Times", "Meet Me At Mary's Place", and "Rome Wasn't Built In A Day". CD
(Digipack case has some light edgewear.)

Marianne FaithfullCome & Stay With Me – The UK 45s 1964 to 1969 ... LP
Decca/Abkco, Late 60s. New Copy 2LP ... $36.99 38.99
A wealth of wonderful work from Marianne Faithfull, all pulled from those key early years when she was part of the musical world of Andrew Loog Oldham and the Rolling Stones! Yet right from the start, despite the fact that she sang a few Stones songs on her own (and wrote a few for the group, too) – Marianne was always very much her own singer, and had a way with a song that was quite different than most of the other UK girl pop artists of the time too! Faithfull sometimes has a trill, and always has a sense of darkness on these singles – almost in the territory of the young Nico, but more tuneful and less moody – and superbly set up in just the right sort of arrangements by Mike Leander, David Whitaker, and even the great Jack Nitzsche. 2LP set features all the a and b-sides of these early singles – 22 tracks that include "Morning Sun", "Sister Morphine", "As Tears Go By", "Summer Nights", "The Sha La La Song", "Something Better", "I'd Like To Dial Your Number", "Counting", "That's Right Baby", "Tomorrow's Calling", "This Little Bird", "What Have I Done Wrong", and "Go Away From My World". Rolling StonesLet It Bleed (remastered version) ... CD
Abkco, 1969. Used ... $6.99
Hard to go wrong with a Stones classic like this one – a record that really has the group hitting their late 60s stride, and coming across with a depth and power that really goes beyond their earlier releases! There's a sinister quality to the record right from the start – thanks to the brooding, haunting power of "Gimmie Shelter" – and the sublime "Monkey Man", which may well be one of our favorite Rolling Stones songs ever! But the whole thing's great – and other tracks include "Love In Vain", "Let It Bleed", "Live With Me", "Midnight Rambler", "Country Honk", and the classic "You Can't Always Get What You Want". CD

✨✧ VariousYou Can't Sit Down – Cameo/Parkway Dance Crazes 1958 to 1964 ... CD
Cameo/Abkco, Late 50s/Early 60s. New Copy ... $11.99 12.99
A great set of groovers from the Cameo/Parkway label – a company that gave the world the biggest twist record of the 60s, but which also was perfectly poised to deliver all sorts of other upbeat tracks as well! The label was in Philly – a huge dance town in the early days of soul and rock – and the set list here is filled with the kind of cuts that were Philadelphia's answer to the rising sound of Motown – the roots of the Northern Soul sound that would be followed by soul collectors for decades! These aren't novelty hits, but upbeat cuts that groove plenty – most by soul artists, a few by pop singers – but all given the kind of tight instrumentation and strong studio handling that made the Philly scene such a standout. 22 tracks in all – including "Shimmy Shimmy" and "The Wah Watusi" by The Orlons, "Bristol Stomp" and "You Can't Sit Down" by the Dovells, "Mashed Potato Time" and "Do The Bird" by Dee Dee Sharp, "The 81" by Candy & The Kisses, "The Mash" by Tony Young & The Hippies, "Mexican Hat Rock" by The Applejacks, "Baby Do The Frog" by The Dardenelles, "The Swim (part 1)" by The Marlins, "Slow Twistin" by Chubby Checker & Dee Dee Sharp, "The Third House" by Bobby Rydell, "When You Dance" by The Turbans, "Everybody South Street" by The Taffys, "The Popeye Waddle" by Don Covay, and yes, "The Twist" by Chubby Checker. ✨✧ VariousYou Got The Power – Cameo/Parkway Northern Soul 1964 to 1967 ... CD
Cameo/Abkco, Mid 60s. New Copy ... $11.99 12.99
Rare soul gems from a legendary Philly family of labels – the Cameo/Parkway imprints, and the related Fairmount as well! Cameo and Parkway were home to plenty of pop hits at the start of the 60s – but they always put their money back into the scene, and were close to the ground digging up the best and brightest new Philly acts – something that maybe made them one of the first and most important to unleash the strong legacy of Philadelphia soul! Given the hits on Cameo, the company always had a great hear for upbeat groovers – which also makes for plenty of Northern Soul magic here – a legacy almost to rival early Motown, collected here in a long-overdue official look at this side of the label. Titles include "Because Of My Heart" by Frankie Beverly & The Butlers, "I Love Him So" by Nikki Blu, "Village Of Tears" by Ben Zane, "Night Owl" by Bobby Paris, "Country Girl" by Vickie Baines, "Envy In My Eyes" by The Orlons, "You Got The Power" by The Four Exceptions, "You Didn't Say A Word" by Yovnne Baker, "Who Do You Think You Are" by Soul City, "The Grass" by Lonnie Youngblood, "Shake & Shingaling (part 1)" by Gene Waiters, "SOS" by Christine Cooper, "Pass Me By" by Hattie Winston, "Picture Me Gone" by Evie Sands, and "Eddie's My Name" by Eddie Holman. ✨✧ Rolling StonesTheir Satanic Majesties Request (Japanese paper sleeve edition) ... CD
London/Abkco (Japan), 1967. Used Gatefold ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A record that was initially thought by some as a cheap cash-in on the Sgt Peppers concept – but an album that, to us, really helped set The Rolling Stones free to express themselves in so many new and amazing ways! There's definitely a bit of the hippie vibe to the set at times – such as sitar that might have been unimaginable on a Stones track a few years before – but there's also an explosively creative approach to the album's arrangements and production, creating a kaleidoscope of sounds that only further seems to illuminate the Jagger and Richards genius! Titles include the classic "She's A Rainbow" – plus "Citadel", "2000 Man", "On With The Show", "Sing All This Together", "In Another Land", "The Lantern", and "Gomper". CD
(Out of print, with a cool 3D lenticular cover.)

Abkco, 1969. Near Mint- 3LPs/3CD/DVD ... Out Of Stock
A landmark live set from the Rolling Stones – featuring material from their smoking tour of 1969! The set really captures the Stones at their most nasty – that great turning point when their edge was maybe sharpest of ever, right in the best Let It Bleed mode – but with even more raw energy from the live setting. Titles include "Carol", "Live With Me", "Street Fighting Man", "Sympathy For The Devil", "Little Queenie", and "Stray Cat Blues". Massively expanded package features a huge amount of music – the unreleased Stones tracks "Prodigal Son", "You Gotta Move", "I'm Free", and "Satisfaction" – plus material from sets by BB King and Ike & Tina Turner on a full separate disc – both pulled from the same tour! Also features a DVD with backstage footage by the Maysles Brothers, and song performances of all the extra Stones tracks! LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Sam CookeNight Beat ... CD
RCA/Abkco, 1963. Used ... Out Of Stock
Wonderful mellow work from Sam Cooke – and a set that's recorded with a sound that's very much in keeping with the "night beat" that you might expect from the title! In fact, there's not so much a "beat" as a simple easy groove – a gentle sort of "night" feeling, with some piano in the lead on many tracks, and backing by a larger group conducted by Rene Hall – a great setting that lets Cooke hit some of his most soulful moments on record from the time! The album includes many lesser-known Cooke performances – including "Trouble Blues", "You Gotta Move", "Fool's Paradise", "Lost & Lookin", and "Mean Old World". CD

One of the greatest albums ever from The Rolling Stones – a set that still draws on all the bluesy roots of their best 60s material, yet which also shows a sharper, nastier edge as well! The album shows the tremendous sense of focus and power the Stones had in this crucial late 60s stretch – a bold step forward that would give them some of their most memorable moments ever, launched by this sublime set of tracks that includes "Sympathy For The Devil", "Street Fighting Man", "Dear Doctor", "Parachute Woman", "Prodigal Son", "Factory Girl", and "Stray Cat Blues".
