8 Bold Souls8 Bold Souls ... LP
Sessoms, 1987. Near Mint- ... $9.99
First LP by this groundbreaking ensemble from Chicago, led by AACM reed player Ed Wilkerson, and featuring Aaron Dodd, Mwata Bowden, and Robert Griffin Jr. The group plays with a style that meshes Mingus-like small group writing with playing styles that fall within an AACM tradition. The record was a very big one in Chicago, and still stands as one of the best recorded works by this important underrated group. Tracks include "Chapel Hill", "Favorite Son", and "The Hunt". Sessom, 1985. Near Mint- ... $4.99
Chicago reed player Ed Wilkerson (also known as the leader of 8 Bold Souls, and a member of the Ethnic Heritage Ensemble) formed this group in the 80's as sort of a mixed large band of Chicago avant garde players, but with more of a focus on tighter swingin' sounds. This, their only LP, includes the cuts "Strollin", "Quiet Resolution", "Feets Of Clay", and "Honky Tonk Bud", which also yielded a video, that was shown quite a bit in Chicago at the time. LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover appears to have been signed by the artist on back.)
