An excellent set of Dutch jazz from the postwar years – a session built around the talents of pianist
Pim Jacobs and bassist brother Ruud, both players who were quite well known in
Pim's famous trio – but who step out here in a variety of different settings! Some of the tracks on the record are trio ones – either with Bill Overgauw on guitar or Cees Slinger on drums – but as the set rolls on, other musicians are added too – including Toon Van Vilet on baritone, Theo Loevendie on alto sax, and Herman Schoonderwalt on tenor – and a few titles even feature some additional string players as well! The mix of moods is really nice, and breaks the record past the usual format of
Pim's trio sessions – and although many of the tunes are familiar American jazz ones, they're extremely well played here. Titles include "Salute To Sonny", "Four", "Stoned", "Two Brothers", "Woodyn You", "Nice Work If You Can Get It", and "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To".
