✨✧ Perez PradoOur Man In Latin America ... LP
RCA, 1963. Very Good+ ... $6.99
One of the best entries in RCA's classic "our man in..." series – and a nice one by Perez that has him breaking the format of his other releases for the label. In this one, he hits a lot of more modern grooves than on his 50's work – and he also introduces the "bongoson", a mixture of twist and Cuban "son" that sounds pretty groovy. Titles include "Uno", "Pachito E Che", "Tico Tico No Fuba", "Guares", and "Canto Siboney". LP, Vinyl record album
(Mono pressing with deep groove. Cover has a half split top seam & minimal wear.)

Forget the white dudes on the cover – as the set's a very hip one from Perez Prado – featuring a hard new groove in "La Chunga" – and other nice originals too! LP, Vinyl record album
(Living Stereo pressing with deep groove. Cover has some ring and edge wear, splitting in the top seam, and a streak of green marker in back.)

✨✧ Perez PradoBig Hits By Prado ... LP
RCA, 1960. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
They certainly got the title right on this one – as the album's overflowing with earlier hits by Perez Prado, re-recorded here for the hi-fi generation, with really swinging RCA sound! The numbers include some perennial Perez favorites – including "Cherry Pink & Apple Blossom White", "In A Little Spanish Town", "Caballo Negro", "Mambo Jambo", and the legendary "Mambo Number 5". A nice way to get all of his best stuff on wax! LP, Vinyl record album
(Stereo pressing with deep groove, 1s/10s stampers. Cover has light wear and aging.)

✨✧ Perez PradoMambo Mania ... LP
RCA, 1955. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Jazzy mambos from the king – and easily the most successful of Perez Prado's albums for RCA in the 50s! The album showcases the Latin mode that Prado crossed over big with on his hit "Cherry Pink & Apple Blossom White" – a tune that almost single-handedly grabbed the energy and audiences of the late swing years, and grafted them onto the growing New York Latin scene of the time! Prado's got that great growl in his chants, as usual – pushing the band to even more rhythmic heights and brassy horn flourishes with his trademark calls – and titles include the classic "Cherry Pink & Apple Blossom White", as well as tracks like "Tomcat Mambo", "Mambo Ala Kenton", "The High & The Mighty", "Marilyn Monroe Mambo", and "Skokiaan". LP, Vinyl record album
(Mono black label pressing with deep groove. Cover has some surface wear, edge wear, yellowing from age, splitting in the top seam, center split in the bottom seam, and is bent at the bottom left corner.)

✨✧ Perez PradoPrez ... LP
RCA, Late 50s. Very Good+ ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
One of Perez Prado's classics, with a side of Latin stuff and a side of jazz stuff – all played by Prado's classic group. Tracks include "Maria Bonita", "Machaca", "Marta", "Fireworks", "Leo's Special", and "Lullaby Of Birdland". Good 50's Mambo, in the same vein as a lot of the other Latin LPs on RCA at the same time. LP, Vinyl record album
(Mono pressing with deep groove. Cover has light tape remnant on all seams, light aging.)

✨✧ Perez PradoExotic Suite Of The Americas ... LP
RCA, 1962. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
One of the more masterful albums that Prado cut for RCA, and a thrilling set of tracks with a very haunting feel. The entirety of side one features the extended "Exotic Suite Of The Americas", which has a storming Latin sound, mixed with nice exotica touches. The flipside features shorter tracks, but also done in a manner that has a wide dynamic range, with some startling arrangements. Titles include "Son Of A Gun", "Mama Yo Quiero", and "El Relicario". LP, Vinyl record album
(Mono pressing with deep groove. Cover has light wear and aging, lightly bent corners, some splitting in the top seam, and a streak of red marker and a Discontinued imprint in back.)

✨✧ Perez PradoPerez Prado 70 (LP sleeve edition) ... CD
Orfeon (Mexico), 1970. Used ... Out Of Stock
Funky Latin psychedelic soul from Perez Prado from the dawn of the 70s – a totally killer batch that we love from the opening note the last second – and a rare one, to boot! 70 has loads of walloping Latin funk instrumentals, incredibly groovy bits and strains of the psychedelia of the time in the swirling organ and guitar. It's never predictable, taking stylistic left turns into mellower and trippier bits, only to return to the tightly snapping funkier sound. It's a really amazing little record, largely instrumental with a couple of vocal tunes, call & response shouts and soul grunts – with titles that include "Simplemente Maria", "Traces", "Guada Guadaloupe", "Vuelveme A Querer", "Mexico 70", "Los Dos Laredos", "La Octavia Religion", "Fanny Bump","Mambo Bump" and more. CD
(Out of print, comes a great little LP style sleeve!)

✨✧ Perez PradoDilo (Ugh!) ... LP
RCA, 1958. Very Good ... Out Of Stock
The title says "ugh!" and there's lots of that in this record! Perez plays in that tight hard way that he used on his best 50s recordings, making his trademark grunt of "ugh!" as the songs change rhythms – in a style that the notes describe as "the only vocal baton in music." Titles include "Patricia", "Why Wait", "Cuban Rock", "Lonely", "Bandido", and "Cose Cose Cose". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ Perez PradoVoodoo Suite – Plus Six All Time Greats ... LP
RCA, 1955. Very Good+ ... Out Of Stock
A great collaboration between Perez Prado and trumpeter Shorty Rogers – one in which Rogers' solos sparkle brilliantly over the top of Perez's tight Latin rhythms – all in a style that's as moody as it is evocative and rhythmic! Side one features the extended "Voodoo Suite" – a side-long track that builds nicely on rootsy Latin rhythms that are much freer than Prado's pop work of the 50s – and which features a growing jazz horizon at the edges, filled with players who include Bud Shank on alto and flute, Bob Cooper on tenor, Shelly Manne on drums, and Pete Candoli on trumpet – in a larger section underneath Shorty Rogers' solos. Side two features shorter tracks recorded a year later – a bit more in the standard Prado mode, but still with a really dynamic feel, and contributions from jazz players like Candoli and Rolf Erikson on trumpets, Willie Maiden on tenor, and Jay Hill on trombone. Titles include "Music Makers", "In The Mood", "St. James Infirmary", and "Jumpin At The Woodside". LP, Vinyl record album

Chet Baker, Helen Merrill, & OthersPassaporto Per L'Italia ... LP
RCA/Dialogo (Italy), 1962. New Copy (reissue)... $35.99 36.99
A very cool album from the Italian branch of RCA Records – and a set that features a host of artists from other nations who briefly stopped over in Italy, and recorded some of these gems for the label! There's a core energy to the set, which balances contributions from a few key artists, mostly from America – and for jazz fans alone, the set is noteworthy for two tracks that have trumpeter Chet Baker blowing with orchestrations from a young Ennio Morricone – "So Che Ti Perdero" and "Il Mio Domani"! And there's plenty of other great bits too – singer Helen Merrill working with maestro Armando Trovajoli on "Nessuno Al Mondo" and "Estate" – plus Perez Prado on "Guaglione" and "Arrivederci Roma", Antonio Prieto on "Papa" and "Baciami", and even some very cool cuts from young poppers Paul Anka and Neil Sedaka. ✨✧ Leo AcostaAcosta (180 gram pressing) ... LP
Capitol/Mad About Records (Portugal), 1970. New Copy (reissue)... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A killer set from funky drummer Leo Acosta – a Mexican musician, but one who draws plenty of influence here from the New York scene – before turning the whole thing into a set of weird and wild sounds that are very much his own! Leo's clearly got some Latin soul vibe going on here – but the rhythms are often a bit more complex, as are the arrangements – with all sorts of interesting elements coming in and out of the songs, both from a vocal and instrumental perspective – although the record is definitely focused more on the latter! There's a fair bit of funky moments that remind us of those later funk records that Perez Prado cut for Orfeon – and titles include "Alma Latina", "Carga Pesada", "Rencorosa", "Todo Termino", "La Novia Hippie", "Noches De Viaje", "Mi Guitarra", and "El Campeon". RCA (Spain), 1958. Used ... Out Of Stock
A wonderful album of Latin grooves from Shorty! The record is one of his best, and features a whopping array of percussionists – including Carlos Vidal, Modesto Duran, and Mike Pacheco all coming into play with Shorty's west coast style of arrangements, tweaked greatly here to pick up an Afro Cuban sound. Players include Bud Shank, Bill Holman, Frank Rosolino, Herb Geller, and Bob Cooper – and the album is very similar to Perez Prado's Voodoo Suite album, which was also recorded for RCA around the same time. Includes the cuts "Un Poco Loco", "Manteca", "Viva Puente", and the extended suite "Wuayacanjanga". CD
