Mahavishnu OrchestraBetween Nothingness & Eternity ... CD
Columbia, 1973. Used ... $3.99
There's a pretty big space between Nothingness & Eternity – but Mahavishnu Orchestra manage to fill most of it up with their hard-jamming approach! The style here is a bit different than the group's initial albums – as the record's a live one, and features some very long tracks that stretch out with possibly a bit more spiritual influence than before – still rockish at times, but also with freer floating energy as well. Billy Cobham's drums are worth the price of admission alone – and other group members include the mighty John McLaughlin on guitar and Jan Hammer on electric piano, synth, and moog. Titles include the "Thrilogy" suite, plus "Sister Andrea" and "Dreams". CD
Also available Between Nothingness & Eternity ... LP 2.99

✨✧ Mahavishnu OrchestraBirds Of Fire ... CD
Columbia, 1972. Used ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A great second album from Mahavishnu Orchestra – one that has them still very might in the same tight formation as the first! As before, there's a heck of a lot of power here – monstrous work on drums from Billy Cobham, sharp-edged guitar from John McLaughlin, and a range of great keyboards from Jan Hammer – all played without the cliche of his later years! The group's completed by the surprisingly great electric violin of Jerry Goodman and the bass of Rick Laird – and the tunes nicely blend a few more contemplative moments with full-on, rock-inspired fusion jamming. Titles include "Miles Beyond", "One Word", "Sanctuary", "Open Country Joy", "Resolution", "Sapphire Bullets Of Pure Love", and "Thousand Island Park". CD

✨✧ Mahavishnu OrchestraInner Mounting Flame ... LP
Columbia, 1971. Near Mint- ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
A massive set of fusion from Mahavishnu Orchestra – a group that features some incredible guitar work from John McLaughlin, who sounds even more focused and driven here than on his own records! As with Return To Forever or Weather Report, the combo's a supergroup of sorts – with Billy Cobham on drums, Jan Hammer on keyboards, Jerry Goodman on violin, and Rick Laird on bass – all wailing with great intensity on some of the best numbers – a lot more energy than you might expect from their slightly more meditative name! Titles include "Meeting Of The Spirits", "Dawn", "The Noonward Race", "A Lotus On Irish Streams", and "Vital Transformation". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has a bumped corner.)

Lincoln Thompson & The Rass-EsNatural Wild (CDr pressing) ... CD
Hammer Musik, 1980. Used ... $6.99
A later effort from Prince Lincoln and the Rass E's, a kind of forgotten footnote in the roots movement. Though this album is a seemingly odd collaboration with UKL pop star Jow Jackson (or at least he was a pop star in the 80s), it works surprisingly well, and as with his earlier efforts, features a tight rhythm section of Jamaican studio stalwarts, like Ranchie McLean, Willie Lindo, Mikey Boo and Ansell Collins. Includes "Mechanical Devices", "Natural Wild", "My Generation", "Spaceship", "People's Minds", "People Love Jah Music" and "Smiling Faces". CD
(On demand CDr pressing.)
