✨✧ Joyce & Banda Maluca Featuring Bugge WesseltoftJust A Little Bit Crazy (UK version) ... CD
Far Out (UK), 2003. New Copy ... Temporarily Out Of Stock
Sweet sweet Joyce, one of our favorite Brazilian singers ever – sounding better than ever too! The album has Joyce working with Banda Maluca – a group that features husband Tutty Moreno on drums, plus keyboards by new groove sensation Bugge Wesseltoft! The style of the music retains all the light and breezy touches of Joyce's best older work, but also has some jazzy flourishes that really sound great – like Fender Rhodes and other keyboards by Bugge, flute and sax work by Teca Cardoso, and even a bit of clarinet on a few tracks – snaking between the lovely vocals with a sad and blue tone. The record's really wonderful, and shows Joyce still growing tremendously as an artist – loosening up her vocals in a host of great new compositions, and showing that she's every bit as important a force as she was when she grooved the world with her first few solo albums. Titles include "Os Medos", "For Hall", "Cartomante", "Samba Do Joyce", "Chuvisco", "Mal Em Paris", "A Banda Maluca", and "Pause, Bite". CD

✨✧ Bugge WesseltoftIM ... CD
Jazzland (Norway), 2007. Used ... Out Of Stock
A wealth of great keyboard work from Bugge Wessltoft – a beautiful little record with a tremendous amount of sensitivity – hardly what we might have expected from his work of a few years before! The album shows Bugge's full evolution from a dancefloor-oriented artist to a more serious one – and it's got a richly compositional feel throughout – sounds that flow with a real sense of grace and presence, almost organic at points. Bugge plays a fair bit of Steinway, but also Fender Rhodes, Prophet, Electrix, and added percussion as well. Mari Boine sings on "Yoyk" – one of the most tuneful tracks in the set – and other titles include "Hit", "Min", "Fot", "Im", "Black Pearl Makes Dream", and "Wy". CD

✨✧ Greg Foat & Gigi MasinDolphin ... LP
Strut (UK), 2023. New Copy ... Just Sold Out!
The keyboards of Greg Foat have a really great setting here in a collaboration with Gigi Masin – served up in a style that's maybe more laidback and spacious than before, yet in a way that makes us fall in love with Greg's electric piano lines all over again! Masin's got roots in more ambient sounds, but the record definitely has a jazz approach at the core – plenty of the increasingly sensitive styles that Foat has developed as the years moved on – shifting from an initial role as a guy who could handle vintage keys, to a point where he's really emerged as a more fully-fledged jazz player overall! The blend of keyboards and a larger sonic palette still has plenty of live instrumentation in the mix – different than a project of this sort by an artist like Bugge Wesseltoft – and titles include "London Nights", "Viento Calido", "Your Move", "Sabena", "Leo Theo", "Love Theme", and "Dolphin". ✨✧ Crimetime OrchestraLife Is A Beautiful Monster ... CD
Jazzaway (Norway), 2004. Used ... Out Of Stock
An amazing little group – one that starts with the ensemble improvisation energy of John Coltrane's Ascension, but then takes off into a whole new electrified direction of its own! Crimetime Orchestra boast a heady rhythm section in the form of Bugge Wesseltoft on keyboards, Ingebrigt Haker Flaten on electric bass, and Paal Nilssen-Love on drums – all players schooled in free jazz ways, but working here with an electrified sort of force – almost a rockish fusion undercurrent, which is mixed beautifully with the complicated horn lines of the other members of the group. Bassist Bjornar Andressen brings in a double-heavy bottom to the record – and other players include Vidar Johansen on tenor, Jon Klette on alto, Djetil Moster on tenor, Oyvind Brakke on trombone, Sjur Miljeteig on trumpet, and Anders Hana on guitar. Bugge recorded the whole thing, with some additional electric effects – and titles include "Rest In Piece" and the seven-part "Live Is A Beautiful Monster" suite. CD
(Out of print, booklet has some light age spots and a track list sticker on the back of the jewel case.)

✨✧ Re:JazzRe:Jazz (Re:Mix) ... CD
Infracom (Germany), 2003. Used ... Out Of Stock
From the dancefloor, to the jazz combo, and back again – the Re:Jazz project takes a surprising twist with this remix follow-up to their brilliant first album! On that outing, Re:Jazz re-made recent dancefloor tunes in new jazz-based versions – going for the warmest, most soulful elements of the tunes – and placing them in a tradition of acoustic jazz dance classics. Here, those re-made versions are given a re-mix treatment – but in a very careful way, one that really preserves the jazzy magic of the originals! It's confusing, we know – but once you catch the warm grooves of the set, you won't care about where they're coming from – as the sum of the total is far greater than any of its tremendous parts! And speaking of parts, the set features remix work by Nicola Conte, RAS, Swell Session, Les Gammas, Dublix Inc, Jazztronik, Bugge Wesseltoft, Yukihiro Fukutomi, and others – on tunes from the original album that include "Style", "Second Sight", "Arena", "People Come Running", "Quiet Nights", "My Love Is Higher", "Torch Of Freedom", and "Release Your Mind". ✨✧ Matthias Vogt TrioPianissimo ... LP
Infracom (Germany), 2022. Near Mint- 2LP ... Out Of Stock
Beautiful sounds from pianist Matthias Vogt – an artist we first came to know through his Re:Jazz projects many years back, but who's evolved here into a much more personal, sensitive artist! In a way, the shift is a bit like that of Bugge Wesseltoft – another artist schooled in jazz, but who worked in clubbier modes – and here Matthias is mostly out front on piano and keyboards, with just a bit of guitar and drums for backing. The songs are maybe a bit more tune-based than some of Bugge's recent work, even though they are mostly instrumental – apart from a few moments when voices come into play. Titles include "Shimmering Sea", "Cargo", "Dystopia", "Afraid Of The Future", "Down To Earth", "I Remember Being Loved", and "Quintessence". LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has an unbroken sticker seal on the opening.)

Tasty modern groovers – all given the remix treatment! The Jazzland label is part of Universal Norway, and it's been home to some of that country's hipper recent acts, like Wibutte or Bugge Wessltoft, both of whom share a style of jazzed-up electronica that's pretty darn great. Titles include "Eve Nin" by Bugge Wessltoft remixed by Les Gammas, "Newborn Thing" by Wibutee remixed by Sternklang, "Superstrings" by Eivnd Aarset remixed by Chiluminati, and "Fast Forward" by Bugge Wesseltoft remixed by Wesseltoft. ✨✧ Eero KoivistoinenAltered Things (with bonus tracks) ... LP
Timeless/Svart (Finland), 1992. New Copy 2LP Gatefold (reissue)... Out Of Stock
A really great meeting of minds – as legendary Finnish saxophonist Eero Koivistoinen records here with a host of American players – all with a sound that's far more bold and timeless than you'd guess from the dated look of the original cover! The lineup here includes a few musicians that Eero worked with on a previous New York date – Ron McClure on bass, Jack De Johnette on drums, and John Scofield on guitar – alongside fresh partners Conrad Herwig on trombone, Dave Kikoski on piano, and Randy Brecker on trumpet – all musicians who really follow the lead of Koivistoinen, as he serves up some really beautiful original compositions for the set. A young Bugge Wesseltoft also adds in a bit of electronics on a few cuts – and titles include "Kabuki", "Altered Things", "Everblue", "Film Noir", "Clear Dream", "Maghreb", and "BLT". Also features bonus outtakes of "Never Again", "Facts", and "Clear Dream". LP, Vinyl record album

✨✧ LatarnikMarianna ... CD
Astigmatic (Poland), 2022. New Copy ... Out Of Stock
Beautiful solo piano work from Marek Latarnik Pedziwiatr – a player you might know for his crucial contributions to the groups EABS and Jaubi – sounding very different and a lot more personal here on his own! Latarnik's touch on the piano is often very rhythmic and lyrical at the same time – less of the freer flights of Keith Jarrett improvisations, or the spacious tones of Bugge Wesseltoft in such a mode – and instead working in a way that uses the instrument to create these really wonderful cycles of sound – sometimes with a gentle pulse, sometimes with a much fuller flow! Titles include "Panna", "Glod", "Wspomienie", "Berlin", "Strach 1945", "Marta", and "Maradki". CD
