Bob Crewe GenerationLet Me Touch You (Bell) ... LP
Bell, Early 70s. Very Good ... $4.99
Recorded after his famous Music To Watch Girls By LP, and with a sound that's similar, but which also has a cool moody sound to it that's less camp than the "Girls" LP. There's lots of cool arrangements and weird instrumental twists, as you'd expect from Bob at this time, and the LP includes a version of his own "Barbarella", plus "Let Me Touch You" and "An Angel Is Love". Great stuff, with a cool easy groove. LP, Vinyl record album
(Cover has light wear.)

Bob Crewe/The GlitterhouseBarbarella ... CD
Dyno Voice/Varese, 1968. New Copy ... $12.99 13.99
One of the most insanely wonderful soundtracks from the late 60s – filled with weird instrumental touches and sublimely groovy vocals that really match the mad spirit of the film! Although Bob Crewe's best known for his work as a producer for bigger names in the 60s, he really shines here on this set – stepping out with a mad mix of styles that blends 60s adult easy with spacier themes – using primitive electronics and odd studio tricks to capture the cartoony space landscape of Jane Fonda's world in the move. The Glitterhouse sing on a few cuts, in a great mod rock soundtrack mode – and the pacing, timing, and overall presentation of the music here is really great – an audio document that almost feels like a "sonic film" in and of itself! Tracks include "Barbarella", "Ski Ride", "Hungry Dolls", "Entrance Into Sogo", "The Pill", "Smoke (Viper Vapor)", "I Love All The Love In You", "The Labyrinth", "The Sex Machine", "The Chamber Of Dreams" and many more. CD features a total of 22 tracks in all! CD

Ben E KingRough Edges ... LP
Maxwell, Early 70s. Very Good ... $4.99
Ben's got the title right on this one, as the album's got a lot more rough edges than some of his Atlantic work – and moves from Ben's classic uptown style into a mode that's more righteous and rootsy overall! King's vocals are as great as ever – perhaps more so, as they seem to be inspired here by the growing changes in the Memphis and Muscle Shoals scenes. Production and arrangements are by Bob Crewe – who uses some nice bits of guitar and trippier soul to support Ben's vocals – almost coming across in a psychedelic soul mode for the set, a fact that's enforced by some well chosen covers. Titles include "She Lets Her Hair Down", "Come Together", "Wishing For Tomorrow", "One Man", "Don't Let Me Down", "Tonight I'll Be Staying Here With You", and "If You've Gotta Make A Fool Of Somebody". (Cover has some ring & edge wear.)

Diane RenayNavy Blue – The Very Best Of Diane Renay ... CD
Marginal, 1964. Used ... $9.99
Diane Renay's clearly got a thing for sailors going on here – but maybe that's no surprise, given that she's handled on the album by the great Bob Crewe – whose perfect presentation of the music is right up there with his best pop of the 60s! Charlie Calello handled almost all of the arrangements, and the pairing of his talents with Crewe is so great, it wouldn't even matter who was singing – as there's gentle grooves on most numbers, weird instrumental effects, and a sublime spacing of the tunes – that same magic that the pair brought to their Four Seasons recordings. Yet it also turns out that Diane's a pretty great singer – maybe more soul than you might expect, especially when female backup singers come in and push her along! Titles include "Soft Spoken Guy", "A Present From Eddie", "Bell Bottom Trousers", "Navy Blue", "Man Of Mystery", "Unbelievable Guy", "He Promised Me Forevermore", "Hello Heartaches", "Growin Up Too Fast", "Waitin For Joey", and "It's In Your Hands". CD
