Teacher Don't Teach Me Nonsense (parts 1 & 2)

12-inch (Item 995339) Philips (Nigeria), 1986 — Condition: Good
(pic cover)
Out Of Stock

12-inch, Vinyl record

An 80s number from Fela, off the Teacher Don't Teach Me Nonsense album, where he was working with groundbreaking producer Wally Badarou, who gives the keyboard stylings of the Egypt 80 groove the same spacey spooky sound that you'll find in his own work from the time – blending the Afro Funk groove with a dubbier approach that has a bit more space, one that opens up the sound nicely!  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Original Nigerian Philips pressing! Vinyl plays with some faint crackles. Cover has some wear and aging, light stains, and a bit of pen on front and back.)

  • A record that you'd buy to play, cheap, but which you wouldn't buy for collecting.
  • Will have marks across all parts of the playing surface, and will most likely play with surface noise throughout. May have some other significant flaws, such as residue, or a track that skips.
  • In most cases, a poor quality copy of a very difficult to find record.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Tony Allen Reworks – Sankofa (A rework of Losun)/Ole & One Tree
Honest Jons (UK), 2007. Near Mint- (pic cover)
The best Tony Allen project we've ever heard – largely because of the work by both artists involved! Hypnotic Brass Ensemble take on Allen's "Losun" – but they play the tune anew, as if it were one of their own – in an amazing style that features stepping rhythms from ... 12-inch, Vinyl record

Kokolo pick up a bit more of a Latin groove than usual – mixing it in with their fierce Afro Funk riffing, and making for a very sweet little tune! Mandingo feat. Foday Musa Suso & Herbie Hancock

Harima (original, edit)/Dewgal
Celluloid, 1984. Sealed (pic cover)
From the "Watto Sitta" album, recorded for Celluloid by griot Foday Musa Suso, who plays mostly kora, inaddition to a variety of other percussion instruments. As you might expect from an 80s Laswell production there's some electro touches and Herbie Hancock guesting on keys, but for the ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
Bang, 1977. Very Good
Nice 12" single pressing of the classic "Dusic", a great electric funk groover, made famous by a million west coast hip hop samples! The single also features the long version of the track! 12-inch, Vinyl record
Sound Of New York, 1983. Very Good+
The other single from one-hit-wonders Indeep. The cut has almost the same feel as "Last Night A DJ Saved My Life", with an insistent beat and a propulsive bass pedal, and a sort of chirping funky guitar line, but at a slightly slower tempo. The scratch versions don't actually have ... 12-inch, Vinyl record

Salsoul Orchestra

Magic Bird Of Fire/Getaway
Salsoul, 1977. Very Good+
2 stone stunners from Salsoul Orchestra – both of them great! "Magic Bird" has a very similar feel to Earth Wind & Fire's "Getaway" – stepping out with a soaring and righteous groove. And "Getaway" is a darker tune – lots of bass at the bottom, ... 12-inch, Vinyl record

An amazing groover from Juicy – one of those tunes that carries with it all the sounds of its era, yet makes them resonate with the feel of a classic! "Sugar Free" is a tune that bumps along slowly on a wicked bassline – stepping its way to a sweet little chorus that really ... 12-inch, Vinyl record
