La Musica H30

LP (Item 992871) Opic (Mexico), 1967 — Condition: Very Good

With Nadia Milton, Nacho Mendez, Hector Morelli, Rafael Acosta, and Jose Avila.  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(Tan label stereo pressing. Cover has some aging and edge wear.)

Very Good

  • Vinyl can have some dirt, but nothing major.
  • May not shine under light, but should still be pretty clean, and not too dirty.
  • May have a number of marks (5 to 10 at most), and obvious signs of play, but never a big cluster of them, or any major mark that would be very deep. Most marks should still not click under a fingernail.
  • May not look near perfect, but should play fairly well, with slight surface noise, and the occasional click in part of a song, but never throughout a whole song or more.
  • This is clearly a copy that was played by someone a number of times, but which could also be a good "play copy" for someone new.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Dizzy Gillespie

Dizzy In Greece
Verve, 1956. Very Good+
Dizzy's in Greece, looking very cool in a fez on the cover – and really wailing hard with a larger group that includes Billy Mitchell, Charlie Persip, Lee Morgan, Wynton Kelly, and Phil Woods! The mode here is still quite boppish, despite the larger size of the ensemble – but Dizzy ... LP, Vinyl record album

Miles Davis

Sketches Of Spain
Columbia, 1960. Very Good+
A beautiful collaboration between Miles Davis and the great Gil Evans – and perhaps the most perfectly realized of all their projects! The album's got a wonderfully unified feel – as it begins with long compositions that have a distinct Spanish-tinge (and not a Latin-tinge, which is an ... LP, Vinyl record album

Shelly Manne

Mannekind
Mainstream, 1972. Very Good+ Gatefold
An incredible album – unlike anything else that Shelly Manne recorded! The record features Shelly getting all dope and mellow, sliding around on the kit in a kickback set of complex drum fills and percussion effects – with lots of unusual rhythms you never would have heard on his ... Duke Pearson

Phantom
Blue Note, 1969. Very Good
Incredible work from pianist Duke Pearson – a darkly-tinged album of grooves that surpasses all his other gems for Blue Note! The record showcases some great work from Bobby Hutcherson – slid into the mix in a really sly way, so that his jazzy vibes color all the tunes with an edgey ... LP, Vinyl record album

Joe Thomas

Joy Of Cookin'
Groove Merchant, 1972. Very Good+
Joe Thomas is definitely cooking on this one – hitting some great notes on funky flute that really recall the glory of his Ebony Godfather album! The style here is a bit fuller than before – with large arrangements from Horace Ott, plus a few smaller group settings with Jimmy Ponder on ... LP, Vinyl record album

Three Souls

Dangerous Dan Express
Argo, 1964. Very Good+
Great little bit of lost Chicago grooviness. Not only is this a fantastic record by a tight group led by the legendary reedman Sonny Cox, but the cover and title bear reference to the Dan Ryan Expressway, which ripped through the south side like a scar in the early 60's. The cover's got the band ... LP, Vinyl record album

Funk Inc

Chicken Lickin'
Prestige, 1972. Very Good
Funky organ, hard tenor sax, and plenty of choppy guitar make this another jazz funk gem in the crown of the legendary Funk Inc! The record's got one track that features some nice soulful vocals – the political cut "Let's Make Peace & Stop The War" – but the best cuts are ... LP, Vinyl record album

Quincy Jones

Dude
A&M, 1981. Very Good+
A super-huge album from Quincy Jones – a record that's almost like Quincy's trying to show the whole younger generation that an older master like himself can still deliver the goods! The set was delivered right after Quincy helped out Michael Jackson on Off The Wall – and while it's ... LP, Vinyl record album
