Man No Die

LP (Item 987283) Vampi Soul (Spain), Late 60s/Early 70s — Condition: Very Good+
2LP Gatefold

The first ever compilation of stellar Nigerian grooves from Bola Johnson – a wonderful singer with a great ear for melodies, and an uncommon stylistic range – great stuff that rolls from highlife tunes with shimming guitars and charismatic vocals, to juju inflected numbers, soulful Afro Funk, more spiritually resonant numbers and rootsier cuts. Common threads connect it all masterfully, though, and there's an particularly an insistent approach to melody that's straight up irresistible. 22 tracks on 2LPs in a nice package from Vampi Soul: "Somebody Find Me Trouble", "Oh My Baby Josephine", "Obiriki Aye N Yilo", "Koto Ye O", "Buroda Mase", "Kilode", "Mimo Mimo Loluwo", "Lagos Special", :Meme Latori", "Nigeria Drive On The Right", "Pappa Rebecca Special 1 (She's A Woman)" and more.  © 1996-2021, Dusty Groove, Inc.
(2010 issue.)

Very Good + (plus)

  • Vinyl should be very clean, but can have less luster than near mint.
  • Should still shine under a light, but one or two marks may show up when tilted.
  • Can have a few small marks that may show up easily, but which do not affect play at all. Most marks of this quality will disappear when the record is tilted, and will not be felt with the back of a fingernail.
  • This is the kind of record that will play "near mint", but which will have some signs of use (although not major ones).
  • May have slight surface noise when played.

Additional Marks & Notes

If something is noteworthy, we try to note it in the comments — especially if it is an oddity that is the only wrong thing about the record. This might include, but isn't limited to, warped records, tracks that skip, cover damage or wear as noted above, or strictly cosmetic flaws.

Sketches Of Spain
Columbia, 1960. Very Good
A beautiful collaboration between Miles Davis and the great Gil Evans – and perhaps the most perfectly realized of all their projects!
